Measurehead may be a faker ("I HEARD IT ON THE RADIO") and a racemixer (and what's more fascist than preaching racial purity and superiority while fucking women of other races?) but he's the only one committed to self-improvement and self-mastery, and will help you get clean and deal with your issues if you down that route.
That's about dominating the enemy
It's called "whiting" them

Unless it's a kindercommie fujo who's in just because there are two uncles to ship and did not even play the game, even commie fans think he is an ACAB.

Apart from the petty shit like stealing the spinny wheel covers he can't even use, he lets you get away with shooting Cunoesse and just snatches the gun, in case you miss. You can also threaten Soona and the ravers with a gun (he's not there for the latter, but is still likely to hear something) and he doesn't bring up any of that by the end. Unlike cracking a cold one in your room in the evening, aiming a loaded gun at unarmed civilians is not worth mentioning.

The New York Times did a very nice multimedia feature recently on the drama surrounding ZA/UM that I think helped make a little more sense of it. They also covered the various offshoot studios and the games in development. Gift link:

A nice write-up and I appreciated the breakdown of the successor studios, I have a hard time remembering who when where and what they're attempting to do.

I wish they would all quit though, we'll never get another Disco Elysium (or, at least, we won't get one from anyone attached to ZA/UM). Whatever magic there was that made the first game so fantastic is long gone at this point and everything that the successor studios are showing just seem to be aping the style without understanding what made it work. Sure, once game might nail the artstyle, another one might have the writing, another the music, but it was all of that together that made DE so memorable.

It seems a Disco Elysium clone has come out called Rue Valley, Made (published) by Owelcat of all people.

I played and beat this. Had a pretty decent experience, but I feel like people might be disappointed if your trying to play it like a crazy hobo. Don't think there's as many options to go nuts groundhog style, but I did play it like I was a normal human being(Three points in cynical, nosy, and paranoid) as opposed to putting all my points into being a psychopath or introvert asshole.

The gameplay loop is a bit odd, and I didn't care for the system were you have to put points in motivation to do major tasks, but it overall works. It's basically about exhausting all your available options until you finally figure out the secret of the loop. The mystery aspect is solid, the history of the people around you is a bit banal at times, but my favorite gameplay element was figuring out how to effectively spend my time. You've got 47 mins to drive/walk around a small area and I enjoyed the logistical problems that arose from this. The biggest flaw in my opinion was status system. Certain things in the environment can affect your mood ( getting drunk, getting soaked by rain) but I never felt like I was in control of that or had a good idea of my limited options. I did enjoy that you can get ptsd from shooting people or being shot.

The main character is pretty average if charming,. I don't know if the backstory changes depending on the personality flaws you pick but mine was underwhelming
click bait Internet journalist who has a stress/grief breakdown in an elevator. He's not political, he just writes about random useless trivia.

It's not what I would call woke, and the overall theme was about accepting loss which was actually therapeutic to me. Its a solid 7 out of 10, but I think I liked it more then disco.

Sup niggas, this game is free on Epic so I picked it up.

I get the idea, that this is a game made by communists, it is well written, and beloved on reddit.

Is there any reason I, a virulently racist right of center American, should put any time into this game? I hate communists more than you can believe.

I'm genuinely asking, although I don't know why tbh because I am just now starting a playthrough of Divinity Original Sin 1...

It doesn't really go easy on leftists either, albeit it's more from "We had a beautiful dream but you fuckers failed the Revolution and now we're a failed ideology" perspective. Anyway, I'd say the setting is wonderfully bizarre, the characters are memorable, and there's a lot of player freedom. You're under no obligation to actually try and investigate the murder which is nominally the main plot of the game.

MEASUREHEAD

I just want to suck Kurvitz's dick some more and say that I fucking love the way this game did dialogue and stats. Absolutely brilliant. Beats the hell out of Fallout, beats the hell out of any other RPG with dialogue choices. Rambled about it before. The Inland Empire/Conceptualization/Shivers holy trinity is sublime.
