Yeah the strength of Nintendo has always been doing "good enough" tech on the cheap. iirc they're the people who invented those shitty cheap RC cars that either went straight forward or turning in reverse and nothing else.
Famicom was cheap as fuck techwise, Wii was at least half smoke and mirrors. it's when they go apeshit like the gamecube that they fall on their face.

Well, with the Gamecube, Nintendo actually did well with that. It may have been last with sales, but Sony and MS took a loss for every console they sold, and made it back with the games.

Nintendo made a profit on each console, and also with the games. Granted, the Wii becoming a viral hit was a huge boost for them.

They don't give a fuck. Mobile shit is still crazy profitable so for all they care their core fanbase can go fuck themselves with a rusty fork.

It's also really oversaturated and tainted by naked greed, at the moment it's a cash cow if you luck out but that's a big if and how long can that really last?
A smart decision would be to dip your toes while continuing to make huge wads of cash on a formula you know works but AAA gaming is run by shareholders who are probably saying to activision "well I know we're making a profit but if we had a candy crush or a clash of clans we would be making even more. Why arnt we doung that instead?" so here we are.

Sooooo...

Anyone remember this?

Activision's patent for super gross mechanics to promote IAP in mobile games. Yeah, I bet we're about to see all those fun tactics show up in all their games.

In other news, where are all the gaming journos shitting on the game for not being inclusive? The only black guy is the one who got axed (Because Asians don't like nigs, and afteral this game is for them.)
It's just a whole bunch of white people (and one Asian girl, but we all know Asians are Schrodinger's minorities. ) this is the sort of stuff these fucks should be being triggered about. But nope. that wouldn't earn them all those corpbucks.

There's even an allegedly leaked "early" review giving it Editor's choice.

TLDR: Get fucked Activision.

Just wanted to share some videos from some YouTuber I like.

Reminder that it's literally Michael Pachter's job to understand these companies and their stocks. He hasn't tweeted about Activision-Blizzard's stock recently, just complaining about gamers complaining. While I don't have the actual data his company puts out (which they sell), the stuff he says almost always seems wrong.

Thats right, no matter how successful it is they will still keep making the originals too. Speaking of which, I can't wait for them to announce Warcraft IV. Any day now...
Warcraft has existed as a MMORPG longer then it did as a RTS by this point.

Pachter is always wrong. He's the largest idiot I've ever seen in the analyst business. I mean, he badmouthed Iwata-sama shortly after his death. The man is a horrible person and it doesn't surprise me he's shilling for ActiBlizzard.

Most Youtubers I automatically assume are under some form of payment from the companies they are talking about until proven otherwise. Nothing more than the articles you see published trying to talk up stocks in gaming companies, but when you can go to forums and 3rd party sites and see the larger community is asking the company WTF they are doing.

It's like paying for good optics is less work than actually making something good, because that entails risk.

I'm trying to figure out, say Blizzard becomes a "mobile title" company, would people actually show up for a Blizzcon featuring mobile titles?
I want to see how fast their popularity drops when they have only mobile announcements at blizzcon.
It looks like new blizzards is failing to live up to the image that old blizzard had. From what I can see nobody who worked on the first games (Diablo 1,Starcraft 1,Warcraft 1 / 2) still works for Blizzard. Starcraft 2 didn't take off like they hoped it would and World of Warcraft is steadily declining. Each expansion pack is bringing back fewer and fewer players. They're doing HD remakes of their old games. I don't know if it's really getting them anywhere though. Heroes of the Storm is doing poorly compared to other MOBAs(so I've heard). Overwatch is doing okay but could be better.
I suppose the shift to a mobile market shouldn't be that much of a surprise considering that they're not doing as well as they would like to do in the PC gaming market.

Am I the only dude that liked the gamecube? I honestly don't even know what was so bad about it

Nintendo is this like...anti mine flail machine. They can fail utterly and miserable (virtual boy, Wii u) but just dust themselves off and carry on. Nintendo is nowhere near as cautious as Sony or MS who have basically no reserves in cash etc so have to be safe. They have IPs they guard carefully and only work with third party once they trust you. Indeed their ultimate preference is with "second party" devs who are part owned by them.

Nintendo cash reserves are insane, they reportedly can lose a quarter billion per year and it'd take 52 years before they have to shut their doors. Every big success they have, more is shovelled into the reserves.

Oh man, Rudy's still going? Niiiice.

Also, Michael Pachter is a hack who doesn't get the gaming market at all.

They aren't doing well because they aren't making PC games. They have a fuck ton of employees but they don't release new games. According to Wikipedia in 2012 they had 4700 employees and I would assume they have more now, but all you see them do with those employees is WoW patches/expansions and new maps/heroes for HotS and Overwatch, with some very small teams associated with Hearthstone, D3, Starcraft 2, and Warcraft 3 Remake.

It helps that at the end of the day, Nintendo does learn from its mistakes and can admit when they've made a failure. No one bought the Wii U except me and four other people so they took what was good about that console and turned it into an overnight success. When I see a multi-million dollar company like Blizzard release an obviously controversial game and then antagonize its fanbase on purpose when they cry foul, I can't help but wonder how they still haven't figured out this "PR" thing yet.

I think WOW killed blizzard. It was free money they could keep raking in for a long, long time and they just had to make new content for it every so often. Any idiot can make content for an existing game. But they made a shitload of money, so they got the idea that they were doing it right.

I think we saw the first major consequence of that hubris with Diablo 3. "We know we're awesome at making games, so if you don't like it, you must suck at playing games".

Also... how do you become a "game journalist" that just writes articles shitting on "Entitled gamers"? Who is paying for these people? Obviously it's not the gamers supporting it, at least, not directly.

The bizarre triumvirate of pro-corporate, anti-consumer, anti-capitalism that marks the "Fanboy" is so strange and self contradictory. It must be artificial, right?

Or if they're somehow trying the SJW technique, when you realize you have a shitty product, antagonize your customers then scream GAMERGAAAAAATE.

It hasn't yet worked but maybe it will some day.

If you're doing it right, you can just sit back and let your fans do the "git gud" thing. You don't have to do it yourself.
