I dont know enough about this type of game. For whatever reason I played Titan Quest and not Diablo2 as a kid. Then I played Diablo 3 and was bored out of my mind.

Is Diablo 2 worth playing at this time or should I just stick to Titan Quest?

Get Grim Dawn or the Anniversary Edition of Titan Quest with the new expansions. They released new stuff as recently as 2019 and the game has gotten a lot of modern QoL updates that you'd expect a game in 2021 to have.

Diablo 2 is a great game, but I have no clue how it would be to experience it for the first time now with zero nostalgia.

ye I've played the new stuff. The last expansion they came out with in 2020 felt like it lacks the life the rest of the game has...which is still enjoyable to start but...so many runs lol. Grim Dawn seems interesting.

I can see Diablo 2 Resurrected is going well. They are offering "open beta" this weekend to anyone that wants to try it out. I downloaded the 25 gigs, installed it, and the shit crashes out to desktop with "Report this issue to Blizzard" box without ever making it in-game.

"If it was a simulator of a piece of shit that didn't work at all, 10/10"

I don't know what it is about D2:R, maybe I'm not enough of an oldfag so the nostalgia bait doesn't work on me. I've played and enjoyed (in some cases loved): Torchlight 1 & 2, Diablo 3 (4,000+ hours logged I think at this point, or close), Grim Dawn, PoE (too many fucking patches for my liking though, and solo players who don't exclusively consume PoE content around the clock are pretty much assed out). I just can't get into D2:R.

Maybe I'm just not the market. They haven't shied away from the fact that it's just out and out nostalgia bait with a fresh coat of paint. I'm sure it's a great game, it's still going strong 20 years on, shit games don't have that staying power. But I guess no matter how hard I try, I just can't take this shit no more man get into it. Unfortunate, because I was kind of looking forward to getting stuck in. It's probably the mechanics of the game like the movement that I can't get passed.

I played the old Diablo 2.
Considering the shitty business practices by Blizard and their sloppy upscaling of Warcraft it's a hard pass for me.

Probably logged 2000+ hours from 2001 to 2004 in D2 and the remastered graphics feel as if they expand rather than detract from the atmosphere of D2 for me.

Ill probably get a Necro with a Shako, Wiz Spike, SS, and a pair of SoJs in release just to spam "Time to die."

Aside from that, I haven't seen the launcher since maybe 2016. Ads for Funko Pops, manchildren who look like they're the source of the "city life" pasta, all sorts of gaudy colors everywhere. Being forced to rebuy WC3 if I ever want to play it again. What a sad place Battle.net is now.

Played the beta this morning, its fine. Its Diablo 2 with upscaled graphics.

The controls are little clunky and dated, but functional. I rolled with the barbarian and got about halfway through the first act.

I'll probably end up getting this...

Just to note for those of you who may not be aware, the open beta only goes up to the end of Act 2. Talking to Meshif just brings up a prompt to return to the main menu once you've finished Act 2.

Kind of a shame. I assume there must be an upper limit to how hard you can autism on a single character as well with only the first two acts locked to Normal playable.

Yeah. I got my authenticator sorted and was playing a bit before work. It's exactly what was promised, and doesn't miss anything I'm bothered about.

You'll have access to about half of the gear available on that difficulty. But not only do the other 2 difficulties have all of the good shit, it's also the only place to find a lot of the unique and build making shit.

I meant moreso in the way of general leveling and skill/stat allotment. It'd be funny as hell to make the world's best Act 2 rusher with such limited gear.

I suppose the only decent thing you could farm right now is Countess. And maybe hope for good gambles, like I've gotten.

Which, ultimately, isn't going to matter once the weekend's over since it all gets deleted for the full retail release.

I tried the beta on PS4.

Died to lag.

Can confirm its an authentic D2 experience.

I dunno. I had a lot of fun with the original, but I never did the ladder grind or spent much time trying to optimize my dude. Most of my experience was during vanilla D2, where the game was stupid chaotic fun. Who knows what it became once it was "solved" by autists.

In an era of SSDs, Duriel doesn't have quite the same impact. I feel almost sorry for the poor lug.

Has anyone confirmed there are respecs available? I can only find arguments about whether or not they're a good thing, rather than any actual confirmation.

I think its pretty much exactly the original: you get a respec from Act 1 quest(that you can save I think).

The other way is tokens at a higher difficulty(don't know which settimg).

I just ended up looking up some builds and dumped my points that way. I don't think it matters though, cause you don't get high enough level for beta.
