I just want a Diablo 2 remaster with an economy like the devs originally intended instead of a dupe filled mountain of stones of jordan. Is that so much to ask

with these budget cuts they're probably gonna wait to see how well warcraft 3 reforged before they work on D2, but judging from how lackluster starcraft remastered was I doubt they'll do much with bnet integration beyond adding seasons.

I've always felt conflicted about Diablo 3 on one hand the gameplay was fun and it was overall a good game but it never really caught the bleak low tech gothic rpg horror of the first two games. The feelings of dread, creeping pace and desolation subtly creating an experiance that made the player feel deeply vulnrable .

I miss charging into a dungeon with seven other people, spamming spells until the game drops to 1 fps, chugging potions by the dozen, and then, when the boss explodes in a shower of blood, gold and gear, frantically clicking the ground in the vain hope that I'll be the first to gobble up the set piece that dropped off the boss.

What was wrong with the Starcraft remaster? They changed very little but very little needed changing. My only complaint is the 12 unit selection limit remaining but apparently they tested a version without that and it made Zerg unstoppable.

I guess you're right. I was hoping for achievements even if it's kinda dumb. I just feel like there's going to be more reason to play warcraft 3 reforged over warcraft 3 compared to starcraft remastered over starcraft.

I've legit gotten so bored with "modern games" I've returned to Diablo III. Probably gonna run a Crusader in Season 21 which starts soon. In the mean time I've gonna fuck around with a Demon Hunter and see what happens.

Season 20 (Forbidden Archives) was fun because it answered my old question "What if I could just put any old combination of things in the cube?". Had a good time trying out weird builds there. Season 21 seems a bit lackluster by comparison, but hey, a new season is always fun for at least a while.

Never got into this simply due to the "you always must be online to play" rule. Fuck right off with that bullshit. The game itself looks and plays like a weeb having a wet dream about crossing Diablo with Naruto anyway, I'd rather stick with the dreary gothic setting of the first two games.

There's some damn good mods for Diablo 2 that still make a 20 year old game worth playing more than D3 (Median XL Sigma is a winner)

Agreed. Only version of D3 I've played is the offline console version, and even then it wasn't all THAT special. Certainly forgettable amidst the tide of other games that I own and are able to play.

And Diablo 4 is continuing this trend, so I'll be ignoring it straight out of the gate lest another offline-capable version arrives.

Diablo 3 was one of those "play while listening to audio books" type of experiences for me. Never engaging, but fun enough for a little while. I uninstalled ages ago and haven't missed it since. There are better alternatives these days.

Diablo 4 is sure to be even more dumbed down. It still might astonish me on one front; if the story doesn't turn out to be moronic childish drivel. And no, flashy cinematics can't help that.

ActiBlizzard will never ever do anything offline again, since that release format doesn't support microtransactions.

I could never play D3 as much as I played Diablo 2 and it's expansion. It just wasn't that fun to me and like others said, seemed like some kind of anime on crack.

The atmosphere was all wrong and looked bland. None of that gothic horror, you can get your shit pushed in at any moment vibe from the first two games. It was.. overpolished visually, if that can be a thing. I always said Path of Exile felt more Diablo than Diablo 3.

I still feel the same about it as I did three years ago. I got it free because I was balls-deep in WoW at the time. It's okay.
On the plus side last I saw it still ran on my system even after WoW stopped working.

The thing that really hurts Diablo 3 for me is that almost every skill is tied to weapon damage. This was super mega cancer at the start as it was obviously to fuel the real money action house. Can't have a competitive build that doesn't rely on gear you can buy from Chinese slave farmers. Diablo 2 had a lot of weird fun builds you could do, and while gear was required for really high level play, some of them(usually necromancer) were just fine completely naked.

How is Grim Dawn? I got it cause it looked like Diablo 2 without the Tencent spyware of PoE but I never got around to playing much of it.

Very good, in my opinion far better than D3. The build variations are huge as you can roll any 2 combo of I think 8 different classes. Plus a huge passive system that has passive and active talents. It has less endgame than D3, but it has a very long story and the DLC is great. It does have some endgame, just not as smooth as D3.

The combat might feel a little clunky compared to D3s super polished combat, but everything else is leagues ahead.

Should be cheap now the final DLC is out, check humble, isthereadeal etc. Or whatever Long John service you prefer.

Adding to what the guy above me said...

Grim Dawn is more complex than the Diablo games, that's for sure. It takes more planning to build a character as you go along, since there are plenty of things to adjust. No "trap options," though. Most builds are viable, unless you get to the endgame challenges. The world design is threatening in feel and look. Sound design and music are solid. The pace might be a bit slower to start with, but once area effects and movement abilities start ramping up, you'll be able to zip around faster and faster.

It's my favorite ARPG of recent years and well worth the price. Same goes for the expansion DLC.
