Epic bump. I want to give the original a 2nd chance and I'm checking what must-have mods I need. Grabbing the GOG version. I swear that there was an image meme like Doom that goes over all the essentials but I couldn't find it.

Edit: is there an ultra realism mod? Such as: I shoot a guy in the head and they just die. No video game logic.

Deus Exe if you want a true vanilla experience, GMDX if you want a semi-vanilla experience, & Deus Ex: Revision if you want a "Black Mesa" type experience.

Revision has a "realistic" modifier as well as ricocheting bullets, and tons of other stuff. I'd recommend you do Deus Exe first though.

I don't remember anything necessary for the original, it's not Vampire the Masquerade that was released broken and needed to be fixed by fans.

Play Shifter, it's Vanilla+ without altering the game maps or feel.

If you are looking for a decent Vanilla-esque Deus Ex mod, try New Visions, Zodiac or Shifter

Less so mods but the rendering fixes are nice if you aren't running something ancient. There's issues with loading inventory or saves fixed on the patch of a patch though.

Take a very large prime number and multiply.

The only thing I recommend is the Deus Ex: Revision mod. Basically works as a Vanilla+, retexturing and improving pretty much the entire game. It also renovated some areas (Such as integrating the NSF base in NY to the NY downtown area) along with most of the hubs. It also includes several gameplay modes such as Shifter and BioMod. It's available on Steam, and you can also download it separately here.

For the Ultra realism mod, that's already included in the game as the Realistic difficulty (Bear in mind you can be shot in the head and die as well)

Revision is the absolute shits and changes the game in retarded ways, it's absolute garbage overfilled with stupid shit and wholly unacessary changes.
Edit: To give examples, the autistic map padding they add and the layouts they change without adding more actual content or updating the map images you get in the game, padding out the game's length without any actual meaningful reason, whilst also fucking around with the game's design of being able to approach any situation in several ways.

The shitty music remixes that alter the feel of the game entirely, especially egregious in certain locations.

That's fine. I like a challenge. Too many games are designed for Baby Bitch Mode.
For the love of christ if you want the original game with improved visuals just do GMDX.

Or just play vanilla it's really not that horrible.

I don't recall any changes that fuck up the ability to approach the situation in different ways, do you have any examples? (It's been a couple of years since I played Revision and several years more since I played the vanilla version, so there's a legit chance I've forgotten/I'm conflating both versions)

And you're right about the music remixes, it's the perfect example for "If it's not broken, don't fix it".

As an aside, I've recently finished replaying Deus Ex: The Fall for PC (Played it the first time back in 2016/17) and damn, it was even worse than I remembered. The models and assets seem to be straight from the PS2 era (Skyboxes seem to be from PS1), and the game is overall sloppy in its execution. Sure, it's technically impressive as a mobile game (Especially since mobile games have stopped even trying to innovate more than a decade ago), but they did next to nothing when porting it to PC. It's a shame, especially since the story and the characters had potential.

im a bit surprised there not more games focusing on conspiracy theories since its become such a hot topic in recent years. maybe game devs just dont want to make games for "right-wingers" and schizos.
Yeah, nobody wants to get smeared by the games journalists for supporting "alt-right conspiracies" by having their game focus on one, even though a good writer could make fun of nuts and deliver a plot where conspiracies are true.

Closest thing I can think of in terms of recent games is stuff like Terra Invicta (clandestine organizations vying for control of Earth's nations during first contact) and The Fabulous Fear Machine (goal is to spread fear through urban legends, myths, and conspiracy theories). Haven't given the second one a shot yet, but it's got a neat pulp-comics aesthetic I like.

With all the buzz about aliens and UAPs or whatever, I hope a dev makes some good ayy lmao games. There's a couple indie ones with greys, but they're kind of hit or miss. I'd really like one that harkens back to stuff like the old Area 51 game from 2005.
