Or hell let you be a guardian still but you're in some spooky wooky dimension where your light doesn't work idfk Imagine fumbling the ball with something this easy
There is a mention of such place in Destiny lore by Drifter,
There's tons of places like that in game and in the lore. The light is not as far reaching as it may appear.
>Hive throne worlds
>Vex simulated realities
>Cabal "Light" suppression technology

As well as any other "darkness zones". The writers/designers we're really unoriginal when it came to actually implementing "darkness zones", leaving most of them as excuses for why you can respawn and that's it.

While in the lore we have examples of how bad it really is to be stranded in a place the light cannot reach.
>Eris stuck in the pit on the moon, clawing out and replacing her eyes of those of the hive thralls just to survive
>Kabr's fire team, first into the vault of glass. All to eventually die and be simulated by the vex.
>Gaul, locking the light away in the vanilla D2 storyline, leaving the guardians to be picked off or fleeing powerless beyond the walls of the last city.

So many cool ideas and concepts for what happens when the light fails, wasted.

They weren't simply killed, they were erased from time itself by the Oracles.
"No one can open the vault alone. I opened the vault. There was no one with me, but I was not alone."
Only Praedyth was "erased" by the Gorgons in the maze. Pahanin escaped after watching it happen. And Kabr went into face Atheon alone, eventually deciding to sacrifice himself to create the Ageis. So that others who followed could have a chance to decide their own fate. But it wasn't just the Vex blocking the light or changing the laws within the Vault. As they progressed further they began to fashion armor and arms from the fallen vex. Which overtime was actually corrupting them as well. We get this bit from Kabr, his last recording before creating the Ageis.
" I have destroyed myself to do this. They have taken my ghost. They are in my blood and brain but now there is hope. I have made a wound in the Vault. I have pierced it and let in the light bathe in it and be cleansed. look to it and understand. From my own light and from the thinking flesh of the Vex I made a shield. The shield is your Deliverance. It will break the unbreakable. It will change your fate. Bind yourself to the shield. Bind yourself to me and if you abandon your purpose, let the Vault consume you as it consumed me. Now it is done. If I speak again I am not Kabr."
That last bit, "if I speak again, I am not Kabr." I took as to mean he understood that the vex would simulate him and use his and Praedyth's simulated selves to run tests within the Vault. Hence why he left the warning for other guardians.

Kabr is by far my favorite in universe character. Back when I used to Sherpa in D1 I would go in-depth to explain in universe mechanics to raid teams and hearing their reactions at the time was priceless. Like I said before, this entire franchise is a tragedy of wasted writing and potential. I wish the lore wasn't one of my brain worms.

The background lore was great but whenever they took things from that lore and put them in the actual game it would always be massively underwhelming at best, or get outright ruined at worst. Like I don't think there was ever a case of that NOT happening. Saint and Osiris were probably the most infamous examples. Sounded cool in the lore, then when they appeared in the actual game they were reduced to just being retarded annoying homos.

If a Destiny 1 remake/reboot were to happen, Rasputin should remain closer to how he was before Warmind instead of going with what he was retconned into, but even more damaged. The last remaining fragment of something much greater. A broken machine god that is left with almost nothing, having lost most of his infrastructure and weaponry during the Collapse, including the Warsats, with very few remaining functioning or online. Warmind revealing Hellas Basin as a completely functioning Warmind core facility left the writers in pickle since they made Rasputin extremely powerful in the setting, but they were unable to actually display this in the game since it would upset the balance, so he had to keep getting pwned by almost everything and only proved useful in Season of The Worthy for a single purpose before being nuked into an engram, then immediately having to kill himself for plot purposes right after being brought back.

This way, there would no longer be an issue with the all powerful Warmind constantly needing the Guardians rescue, while he could still occasionally provide us with weapons and armor from his remaining facilities, or they could be obtained by picking at his remains, exploring facilities that have been partially obliterated during the Collapse, displaying the power of whatever attacked Humanity while leaving it a mystery. The Cosmodrome Warmind would remain mostly the same, but even more erratic and unstable, having suffered from corruptions during the Collapse and centuries of rot, as well as the loss of most of its infrastructure in the Solar System, leaving its own memories in pieces. The lore around it would remain mostly the same but slightly more schizo.

Hellas Basin could be rewritten to have still been the core of the Warmind, but with the core having been destroyed. The lore around it could be that the threat of Nokris and Xol was so great that Rasputin used his own core as bait before self destructing it, greatly injuring them before the entire area got frozen. Then during the events of Warmind the ice thawing would have still brought them back to life, but with Rasputins sacrifice in the past being what allows us to stand any chance against a worm god in the present. This self destruction would be the explanation for why the remnants of Rasputin are so fragmented and unstable, with the destructive loss of the core causing irreparable damage to the rest of the network, resulting in most of the surviving Warsats and facilities to become disconnected from each other, having to rely on local systems and AI if still functioning, or just falling into complete disrepair. Lastly, it would get rid of the issue of Eramis managing to use a super secret Seraph facility to try killing the Traveller using the Warsats. The Seraph Station could've just been destroyed during the Collapse instead, with maybe the remains that crash landed on Earth still having some tech and loot available to scavenge by us, such as the Revision Zero.

Oryx is the exception that proves the rule. Though he was Destiny 1, so more relevantly, I heard good things about Savathun. I had already checked the fuck out of Destiny 2 for the exact thing you bring up. Osiris was so bad both as a character and expansion that I was done.

Haven't played since Dreaming City's release, and I'm admittedly having fun. Played through the Edge of Fate story and the writing wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected, and Lodi was certainly less egregious of a character than Ana Bray.
The gunplay is still addictive, and my beloved Sunshot was waiting for me. There's so much new and reworked shit though, good Lord.
I burst out laughing when the Nine chose Ikora because she's a government employee who ran a red light lmao

I think Lodi was the only character who wasn't hated by everyone. Ironically, all what they need is white, straight (knowing Bungie it is very :optimistic: for me to think so), slightly nerdy and capable character. He might be plain in some moments but still thousands time better than non-binary Nimbus which has only good thing about him that he has only 5 years to live.

Lodi certainly made interactions with Ikora jarring, especially when she started n-looping about "we choose our own destiny". He was competent enough of a character to make me think it was a mistake on Bungie's part.

I played the opening mission for Renegades, and have been audibly accosted by a female Fallen with hyper realistic anxiety (Eido, I think?) and Star Wars pandering beyond what I could have possibly expected from this. If it weren't for the sequel trilogy, maybe it would be seen a bit more fondly, but wow is it derivative.
The not-lightsaber battle was, to reuse my highest possible compliment to this game, surprisingly competent though. I fully expected a snarky oneliner from the yellow Asian not-jedi followed by her overpowering not-Kylo and escaping, but the outcome was competently decided.

I was advised that these two campaigns are the ones I can safely leave dialogue on, then mute it for the entirety of Final Shape and Lightfall, so I imagine Nimbus is even worse than I can expect from Bungo. Speaking even mildly positive of this company feels odd and I don't trust it, but I'm having some fun.

I love that Nimbus was so unlikable and his VA is such a degenerate that bungie didn't bring him back at all ever again.
The character was there for the Excision cutscene when we had the MCU moment with everyone united to kick its ass, but then during the actual mission it was just Ikora mentioning that Nimbus is bringing in an orbital laser for us :story:

He was in small missions where you listen lore about Maya Saardaresh's. I believe those mission were made after Lightfall as an attempt to improve lore part of the DLC.

But also it is typical for characters appear once in few years only. For example, Osiris was presented in first ever season (DLC, but it was basically a season) and we didn't see him for 2 years after. And that is legendary Warlock known across Solar System and not random NPC with lifespan less than chihuahua known only as guard for one city.

I've read through basically everything related to Lodi in the lore because I too like him as a character, and you'll be happy to know that there's no faggotry involved. I was a little concerned when there were mentions of how much he cared about a male character with the same last name, but that was his brother. There are mentions of how he pined over women too. Quite possibly our first confirmed straight character in Destiny in years.

The "REMEMBER STAR WARS???" aspects do get toned down somewhat after the first mission, thankfully. There's still an occasional reference here and there, but it's not as in-your-face about it, and it's integrated fairly well overall. The rest of the campaign's story is pretty good on the whole, better than I expected it to be, and definitely less tedious than EoF's.

Lightfall is pretty bad, but you really do need to experience it once to see just how bad it is. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, but it's a definite low point in Destiny's history. I also wouldn't mute it because you'd miss out on some actually good content (everything to do with Calus and the Witness, as limited as it is, for instance). On replays, though? Definitely.

TFS is excellent throughout, though. You'd be doing yourself a major disservice muting the dialogue. The only exception is the tranny character Micah-10, but that faggot only shows up after the campaign proper when you're exploring the Pale Heart. The tranny jeet they hired to voice him is absolutely atrocious at acting, I had to mute the dialogue entirely after a while because I couldn't stand to listen to him try forcing out a woman voice anymore. You'd think that with Golden Age tech back in the day, they could actually turn a man into a woman and they wouldn't sound like a troon anymore, but I guess there are some things the Traveler's Light can't do after all. Hilarious.

It's even funnier when you consider that the only reason they hired her is because she claims to be an enby, and the faggots wrote Nimbus as a they/them enby too. Only, Nimbus is clearly a man underneath the genderspecial veil, so when they hired a woman to voice him, they had to completely torture her performance in post to try and make her sound vaguely masculine. Naturally, they failed miserably, so the end result is you get a woman's bad imitation of how a dudebro would act that sounds like she's got laryngitis and she's speaking through a tube.

I will say that the Veil Containment missions after the fact were slightly better than the main campaign's acting, and she did a better job when she wasn't trying to force an overtly masculine performance. Whatever post-processing they were doing to her voice acting worked better on a more subdued and somber reading, and it made me hate Nimbus just a tiny bit less. It still doesn't make up for the fact that Nimbus is clearly the writer's poorly disguised fetish character, and I still never want to see him again.

it's a woman that voiced nimbus? oh lol everything makes so much sense now.
also sidenote i think it's genuinely funny that the AI doesn't know what i meant but still told me anyway, or maybe it's feigning ignorance?

Rasputin's entire contribution to the destiny universe is literally one long sequence of us waking him up and then him shitting himself and shutting down.

Original rasputin wakes up -> Sees black fleet -> Shits himself -> Immediately shuts down

Warmind rapsutin wakes up -> Sees Xol -> Shits himself -> Immediately shuts down

Worthy rasputin wakes up -> Sees black fleet in arrivals -> Shit himself-> Immediately shuts down

Seraph rasputin wakes up -> Sees black fleet again -> Shits himself -> Literally fucking kills himself

The only fucking victory rasputin was ever gotten was when he was killing humans/guardians with siva in the iron lords story and destroying the almighty, an unarmed, unmanned, disabled defenceless drifting space hulk.

Between arrivals and seraph someone at bungie watched the iron giant and thought "Bro we can totally do this with rasputin" what with raputin being supposedly a war machine that developed its own morals after speaking with anna (and I have so much to say about that retarded plotline don't get me started) and his finale being """chosing""" not to use violence.

The difference is that the iron giant was actually terrifying and actually gave you the impression that he could destroy all of earth if he wanted with the shit he did on screen and nobody could stop him, so him chosing to avoid violence and self sacrifice was actually meaningful.

But because Bungie spent years failing to establish Rasputin as the terrifyingly effective weapon the story insists he is, and instead made him a useless retard, you get The Iron Giant where the Giant spends the entire movie losing fights to refrigerators, finally shoots down an unmanned weather balloon, and then announces: “I choose not to be a gun.” expecting the audience to start crying.
