This reminds me of that time Massive gave the design documents of a raid in The Division 2 to a group of content creators who then just happened to be the firsts to finish the raid and got their picture framed at the White House (in-game).
The fact that this many people cheated really does prove that Battleye at least how Bungie is using it really isn’t doing shit, PvP got so bad with cheaters that many began to switch to console (there’s no pc vs console crossplay in the crucible), the fact that it’s was that bad in the raid race now also is going to massively piss off the hardcore community, Aztecross was already calling it the Epstein files of Destiny in one of his videos

Just looked at some footage of Destiny: Rising and it actually looks decent all things considered and the aesthetic reminds me of Destiny 1 which is peak sovl especially the Cabal, the bad part is that it’s gacha shit and of course it’s mobile only, might be fun with a controller if you’re not a gambling addict but it’s not gonna replace the main game for me if I even try it at all

I'm telling you, if chinkslop Destiny with tits and ass gets the slants to open their wallets, then it's fucking over for Bungie. D3 will be rice'd.

Yeah, Rising unironically doesn't look bad. Dual wielding, which bungo memoryholed after 2007, alone is cooler than any of the retarded gimmicks bungle has been shitting up D2 with, like the Metroid ripoff ball (seriously who the fuck was asking for this??)

Yeah while im not a fan of gacha (genshit impact are lottery tickets for gen alpha) everything else about rising seems generally good if not great, makes me wish it would light a fire under Bungies ass to put those features in D2 so I can enjoy them on my Hunter but I know it won’t happen
fags.
metroid ball was a fucking pain in every metroid game it existed, especially on prime where you needed to use the ball morph more than often for puzzles and shieet.
Even though I mostly enjoyed Edge of Fate I fucking hate the Metroid ball and the other puzzle shit in general, I get they were trying something different but for fucks sake the Destiny community just wants to shoot aliens and shiet, you shouldn’t need a 110+ iq to play it

That was my biggest issue with the dark matter abilities. Usually, the "puzzles" weren't that hard to figure out; oh, there's a teleporter pad here, so I need to use a relocator, and so on. The problem was finding the damn nodes to actually activate the abilities. Yeah, I know I need to mattermorph, now where's the fucking fungus so I can use it? I probably would have finished every puzzle at least 50% faster if they didn't take to hiding those nodes away in weird locations.

Thing is, when fully upgraded, the abilities aren't that bad. Matterspark can stun whole groups of enemies, the dash attack does decent damage, and the charged explosion is pretty great when you have the opportunity to use it. It also serves as a useful "oh shit" button since it'll instantly start healing you and reload your weapons, and it makes you amplified too. Mattermorph is also nice for an on-demand suspend even if you're not on a strand subclass. Even the relocator can be fun to use, knocking enemies around and hitting others with void seekers when you kill someone. The problem is that they don't let you use these abilities anywhere else, nor did they add them to any base subclass. Spending all this development time creating abilities that will only ever be used in a single destination and probably never again is just baffling to me, but that's kind of the pattern of Destiny's development, so I can't say I'm too surprised.

If anything, the greatest sin is not letting you use vehicles on Kepler and forcing you to use matterspark instead. I just want to get from point A to point B quickly, not meander along at a speed barely faster than sprinting. At least they put landing zones all over the place, but it still takes far too long. And yeah, I know the terrain is too cramped and frequently has walls in the way so you could only drive so far before you'd have to get off, but that's a problem that they could have avoided in development by not designing the entire space around matterspark.

Double post, but Bungie finally got around to banning contest mode cheaters. Assuming the leaderboard is now accurate and all cheating fireteams have been removed, that means that only 195 teams managed a clear in the contest period (four more are on the board because they hadn't left the instance, including one that must have cleared mere seconds after the deadline and one that stayed an extra seventeen hours to finish the clear). Someone did the math and concluded that this meant over half of the contest clears cheated (1170 legit players/2497 emblems = 47% legit). Even that might not be fully accurate as there might be duplicates in there, though I doubt there are many if any exist considering how grueling an experience it was.

Honestly, even without the rampant cheating, this whole contest situation was pretty crazy. I actually went and crunched the numbers for all previous contests because I was bored and wanted to do direct comparisons, and here's the results of that, as well as data from the Pantheon and the recent dungeon contest modes:

I'll start with a caveat that these numbers won't necessarily be exact due to potential repeats in the data, but I'm not going to go to the trouble of figuring out how to filter those out. I included the first day's completions as well because of the eventual change to 48-hour contest mode, in order to get a more accurate comparison of how many people managed a clear on the first day for every raid (Vow's contest was extended due to server issues, King's Fall went back to a single day, and then every contest from Root on was 48 hours). I couldn't do this for Pantheon because the leaderboards were clearly off, probably only counting the time for the final boss in each instance (nobody cleared Nezarec and all seven prior bosses in under an hour).

There are a couple trends I noticed in the data. First, the total clears follow an interesting pattern that shows how wildly Bungie will swing difficulty. It seems that any time they make a raid noticeably easier than the previous one, they will immediately swing back to brutally hard for a couple of raids before gradually easing off again (EoW -> SoS/LW, SotP -> CoS/GoS, RoN -> CE/SE/TDP). They hit a decent stride between DSC and KF with a pretty decent amount of clears, though with Vow you can really see how much that extra day helped, bumping the total clears sixfold in that second day. Finally, with only three exceptions, every raid race has finished in under eight hours, and two of those three were the latest two raids. Part of the reason they extended contest to 48 hours was so that teams wouldn't feel the need to punish themselves raiding without sleep in order to get a clear, but the last two have taken nearly a full day of raiding just for the first clear.

At this point, contest feels like it's being designed solely around the world's first race and nothing else. I get that that's appealing to some teams, but most players who engage with contest mode just want a decent challenge that they have a fair chance of overcoming, to engage with the new activity before any strategies are known and figure it out together as a team. They have no illusions of being first to finish and they don't care to, they just want to have a challenging but fair fight. But Bungie seems focused only on the absolute pinnacle of the playerbase and trying to create something that will make even those players sweat, not even bothering to care about how that excludes everyone but those who dedicate their lives to this game. If those players want a challenge that goes above and beyond, they can make up their own rules and push themselves in that way (limit their loadouts, low-man, speedrun). For the base difficulty, though, let everyone have a chance.

This piece of trash game has an entire thread dedicated to it ? Guess people really are running out of things to talk about.

apparently Sony is taking total control of Bungie or at least in the process of doing so, not that I like Sony in the slightest but considering the fact Pete basically ran the company into the ground it was probably necessary for the survival of the game, and while I don't see much changing for the better its still preferable to a complete server shutdown, as for Marathon I don't see it being successful in any way, but apparently Sony wants to continue development of that too

it's right up your alley though, joey, being a console-focused type of game and all.

sony is just accepting losses and will probably cash out on marathon, forever locking the IP.

Once Marathon Concord's itself, it will finally be time to sunset Bungie and send them to the great content vault in the sky.

I hope someday there's a serious treatment of the Sony/Bungie deal written by someone with enough access to get to the bottom of what the hell happened. $3.6 billion for a company in the process of self-destructing.

Bungie has made a lotta fuck ups over the years, though the one thing I certainly cannot give them shit for is the gunplay-its always superb, and the new smg they added for Solstice is certainly another example of that, I am a Tex Mechanica enjoyer in general, though mini-gatling style of the smgs make them quite fun to use in terms of gameplay, pic related is the rewards pass roll everyone gets and its quite decent but I still want to get a Incandescent roll (Burning Ambition is ok but its just a worse verison of Incan kinda like how Jolting Feedback is a slightly worse version of Voltshot)

Funnily enough, they're basically being forced to get Marathon out the door, not because they're sure it'll be a great hit or anything, but because that valuation was predicated on their games in development at the time. Despite it being a complete dumpster fire between the scandals and the mediocre gameplay, Bungie has to release it by a certain point or else:
"We are now fixing the problems, so we believe this launch will happen," she says. "If this launch is canceled, we'd need to do the revision of the valuation; however, as of now, this is not expected."
I am not a financial expert by any means, especially not in the corporate world, but my read on this quote is that if Bungie doesn't ship Marathon by the end of the fiscal year (end of March), Sony is going to pull back on the financial benefits from their purchase like stock options. Apparently, they're already missing out on bonuses due to the initial Marathon delays, so if they fuck up again, they'd lose the rest.

I can't say I'm sad to hear about any of this. Whatever good games they've released in the past, Bungie has proven time and time again that they need a firmer hand on the wheel to keep things on track. Hell, it's more of a miracle that they've shipped as many quality titles as they have, considering the stories of their respective developments. I doubt this will be a magic bullet that fixes all their problems, but I'm hard pressed to imagine how it could get any worse.

Their entire leadership needs to be shitcanned but nuSony isn't much better so I doubt their replacements would be much of an improvement.
at this point its the best case scenario, Sony are a bunch of greedy kikes like current Bungie leadership, but the devs need to be tard wrangled like they were with Activision, for example they removed the low gravity modifier this week which people hated but they added back in another one people hated called Grappler which makes grenade builds useless and its active like every other day in the general playlists, absolute nonsense.

Just remembered how in the promotional material for the Dread they had a language they spoke that Bungie wanted us to translate, and now a year after TFS it's still unsolved because Bungie gave us absolutely no way to translate it
