Man those are some memories you brought back. Firefall was the only game more mismanaged than destiny with an equal if not bigger ammount of potential. The amazon map was beautiful and its last few updates before shutdown were tragic. Firecat 4 lyfe.

I tried First Descendant, but it just didn't click. Something about the gunplay and general combat felt off (maybe due to UE5 as @Miller said). Might give it another shot, and to be fair to Joker despite his obnoxious voice and delivery, calling TFD a "gooner shooter" is pretty funny. Might try Granblue, though.
My one remaining hope is for a private server. Destiny may happen one day in the far future, but there's early work on reverse-engineering Firefall so that might exist in a decade.
well UE is what it is and most likely in way too many games going forward. and since it's an asian game it sells via sex (the game itself is completely free, the gooning skins are not), which is like the complete opposite to the west in current year. however the devs are active in communication, updates are constant and most importantly no nerfs (for now). they also seem to actually like the game and want you to play it, none of this condescending holier-than-you you get from bunghole.

gunplay can be hit or miss, the biggest complaint I've seen several times is that some chars make guns obsolete in some content. basically some chars let you nuke a whole room, clearing those one by one with a gun would be ten times as slow, and since it's farming content speed is king. there is other content to use a gun (and different chars).

So is Destiny 2 dead-dead or what? Feels like the game really fell off a cliff after their last expansion.

still floats around 10-20k players at least on PC, and usually when theres new content dropping its slightly more, the biggest issue with the game right now, in my personal opinion is the amount of cheating niggers that just dont get banned, Battleye on PC is useless.

Took an 8 month break, came back, this game is still dogshit and it's PVP sandbox is ass and i've come to accept it will never ever be good let alone close to the enjoyable and fun peak that was Destiny 1.

D2 pvp was never as good as D1's. The most fun I had was in brief windows: laser tag, broken Lord of Wolves, DMT, and the fusion rifle patch of early 2021 (I think) up to the firmly planted nerf. I quit after Witch Queen. Making in air accuracy a stat made it abundantly clear the game would never again be fun.

also the PvP is either insufferably sweaty or just boring as shit, granted Destiny 2 is not the only game with this issue, i feel as if Live Service games especially those with PvP modes are rapidly losing popularity right now

PvP was better in Destiny 1 with the vehicles. These guys made Halo and yet that they couldn't make a Big Team Battle.

true, id say most if not all of the Halo guys are gone at this point, its difficult to even get me to care about multiplayer gaming now and Destiny while in a better state then like Call of Duty for example, its really not by much, multiplayer FPS is so over-saturated and thats whats most worthy of criticism

The game was always an antisocial hellscape too. Don't regret walking away from it.
thats another main issue, the few people who actually communicate in the game are 12 year olds who start screaming when there is 1 wipe in a raid, I think this is partially the reason for them starting to casualize the game more over the past year, also they realized the majority of the playerbase is fucking retarded and have no skill mechanically. when 90% of the community hasn't cleared a raid you get the other 10% being total dicks

This is bungie's fault though no? They make raids utterly unrewarding (have to clear them 20+ times to get their exotic) and make the rest of the game baby goo goo gaa gaa easy. Anything outside GM nightfalls you can clear with your eyes closed.

Bungie refused to establish a skill floor while still designing around raids and the result is that most of the players can't do them.

Yes. a lot of their content is designed around groups when the vast majority their playerbase has clearly demonstrated the best they can handle is solo or matchmade content that doesnt require a mic, this results in the few who actually do raids or dungeons being either being eltist or just impatient in general with lower skill players, they are just starting to realize (after 10 years no less) that players need to be handheld for the most part, take the recent example of the upcoming Ritual of the Nine event, they are giving tooltips for 3 of the dungeons in the event, I think they have given up on the social game idea

, they are giving tooltips for 3 of the dungeons in the event,
I think that is actually good. Another problem with bungie raids and dungeons is that they are obscure as fuck and without a youtube guide you will never have a chance of finishing them.

Adding a tutorial mode so you can actually learn them in a stress free enviroment before you try them for real is the best thing they ahve ever done to introduce more people to raids and dungeons, and if they can add this system to old raids and dungeons too it will be the best thing they've ever done for the community.

Raid exotics should all be tied to quests. Back when Vog was added to D2, it took me almost 60 runs to get the Mythoclast. I had like four different flavors of godrolled timelost fatebringer before that bastard dropped. The Outbreak Prime quest should have been the baseline for raid exotic acquisition in D2.

I agree, I feel they should have done it a lot earlier, as long as they the keep Adept Loot behind the higher difficulties it objectively improves the amount of people who will be willing to do Raids, also most of the YouTube tutorials i find, especially in terms of Raids are utter shit and don't get the point, causing Casuals to just give up, theres probably a minority of top hardcore players who will be mad about it, but honestly they are not the majority of the remaining playerbase

they added a triumph system where completing the specific triumphs gives you a drop rate boost for the base exotic, but thats honestly not good enough and still too RNG, I think they should make it so a day 1 completion, or having a certain amount of clears guarantees the drop

Triumphs are bullshit and whomever at bungie is patting themselves on the back thinking that they are good enough needs to be fired and blacklisted from every creative industry on the planet.

I completed all the triumphs for bloodline (except solo no death clear fuck that lmao) and it still took like 20 clears. I never even got it "the real" way, I just gave up and waited for the dungeon to go on rotation.

That was the point where any spark that had been reignited by the final shape completely died for me and I stopped playing again.

Or alternatively let the player carry more of the resource that lets em buy shit from the vendor at the end of the raid and make the exotics cost 10x what a regular weapon costs. Correct me if I'm wrong here but I think I remember reading a blog post some years back about how Bungie made (some?) raids farmable but nothing drops at lightpower level after the first clear and I don't know if exotics were included in that table. This was after I was done with the game.
