First off I'd like to say, there was more to the story than I included, and while it may not have been the best place to tell this too (It's okay, Un-Clit!) I actually received private massages a few years ago from people questioning/giving heartfelt messages of empathy from my initial post a few years ago. My recent post was a simplified version of what had happened raw to the bone, so that way it could serve as a caution and give closure to a small community that was morbidly curious. My post was mainly meant to inform about the true horrors of when someone who is extremely obese dies, while adding a few of my personal emotions I experienced. It took a while to even post an update and I'd like to to reply back to your comments, because while harsh, they are true.

While I fought for him for as long as possible, you have to also understand, there had been moments where I had already wanted to end things before he continued to suffer. But in actuality, it's what he wanted. He was terrified of death and while I know the medical decisions were mine alone to face, everyone in his family knew that he wanted to have all necessary medical intervention until there was no return. It was a constant balance of wanting to do what was best for him as well as doing my best to keep my crazy fucking family at bay and showing them how bad he was getting. You don't know the details of my family seeking lawyers the day after I called a day so they could overthrow my medical power of attorney. Constantly trying to harass me when I spoke with doctors privately and I mentioned his sister threatening to bomb the hospital. I omitted certain details because I didn't want to get into the entire ordeal that went down. The reason why he was taken off of life support to BEGIN with was because I was tired of seeing him suffer. You're right. If I had a better support system and a better educated family and he had an advanced medical directive rather than depending on someone else, things wouldn't have been so bad.

And you were right on the money as far as costs go! It was around $800,000, give or less. And I'd like to make a point clear. I could have let him continue to lay in agonizing pain and suffer till even the machines couldn't do it anymore. It could have been months longer, though highly unlikely, but it could have continued. I do not directly blame myself for his death, but I made the choice. He was going to die, it was just a matter of when. I finally took control and gave everyone a few days to say goodbye because since he had officially been brain dead about a week, he wasn't coming back.

I do wish more people understood the medical community and what it means to die in a medically assisted manner. I do wish people could make more informed choices. But I wanted to honor the wishes of my father and when it reached a literal point of no return a decision was made, with serious consequences. A lot of emotions were experienced and it was a horrid death, how could there not be?

I fail to see how I am spreading misinformation when I shared an experience, with an original purpose to serve as a warning to not become bed bound and that it can be a terrible way to go.

It's probably also the level of weight strain the guts are under too, they are covered in visceral fat which is heavy and takes up more room and then the subcutaneous fat too which adds even more, makes me think there is something with the fat putting guts under strain with it's own weight, which is not good for weak organs.

But this is just a guess though.

It would make sense if both instances were deathfats, but in one case, it was a woman who was quite on the lower end on the scale. About 6', 220 pounds I'd say. She also ate pretty good quality food, just in excessive amounts. Iirc doctors blamed some sort of super sneaky infection that can cause that and there's basically no way to predict or detect before it makes a mess

I always thought that people were extremely pale in most places before they get worked on, due to the blood pooling and settling to the lowest parts of the corpse. Is the greenish color due to very early decomp or is it a 'normal' color in the bloodless areas? I know with animals it's harder to see because it's covered by fur or pigment, and purely depigmented areas are often pretty rare in nature. In taxidermy there is also the phenomenon of what is called 'green belly' where the abdominal organs have started to break down and putrify underneath, do you guys get a lot of that? Usually green belly around takes a day to see, often if viscera is not removed soon enough after death, or there is a delay of refrigeration or cooling of the body.

No, green is not normal and a sign of spoilage. Fat tends to spoil significantly faster than muscle. Usually you can carve up a deer into the next day, but you have to field dress it or gut it first thing when you get back. (Field dressing is removing all organs from the abdomen, dofferent from dysembowelment because it includes heart and lungs, as well as kidneys, if you can reach them) next part spoilered cuz gross but interesting.

If you go old fashioned in tanning/don't like the artificial smell, or don't like the artificial sleeves for sausage casing (I don't, its tough and rubbery) you keep the intestines and brain. You use the brain on the hide because it carries natural tannins in it, smells weird but less chemically than straight up tannin from the store. Over half of hunters I know go the natural way for tanning and sausage. i cannot emphasize HOW BAD distilled tannins smell, it will follow you after 8 god damn showers.
For sausage, you literally cut out the butthole and shove a nozzled hose through for a medium power wash. Don't want anything too strong because it can rupture the lining. You then hook it up to the grinder, fill it, cut the butthole off and tie it.

You can also keep the bladder to clean out for a water skin, and is why many soft pouched artificial water containers are called bladders!

No, green is not normal and a sign of spoilage. Fat tends to spoil significantly faster than muscle.

Carnivores seem to get 'green belly' faster then herbivores, so if you ever get a hankering for fur taking, gut that coyote or fox as soon as you can, because it can happen within hours. Often the pancreas seems to be the first organ to start spoiling.

I've only done synth-tans, I've never done the concentrated tannin ones or did a brain tan. The concetrated tannin one looked tempting, but I heard you also have to smoke the hide after the tan to protect it from bugs. Dermestid beetles love to chew the hair off hides, and they love dusty, dark areas that have little air circulation (like a closet or basement or attic) to hide in. They are great for European mounts (the bare skull mounts) but not so much if you have nice skins and hides you want to keep.

E- On topic, since fat spoils faster then muscle, it makes me wonder what first responders do when they have to clean up a dead morbidly obese person. Doesn't the huge amounts of fat in the overstretched skin make it fragile? That has gotta be a mess.

I was in line at the pharmacy, and there was a hugely fat guy on a scooter in front of me. He just looked generally unclean and gross. When the pharmacist was done helping him, I started to approach the counter-- but the pharmacist held up her hand in a "one minute" gesture. She spun around, grabbed a bottle of cleaner, and started to wipe down every surface he'd touched.

Maybe he just had a cold or something, but the entire look of him made me fear the worst. He was riding one of the store's scooters, so good luck to whoever touched that thing next.

I had a similar run in with one, wasn't at wommart just a regular grocery store. Same scenario, I was waiting for him to move the damn scooter cuz he was blocking the item I needed. I didn't even say anything, I just stood there patiently until he finally moved his ass, and even then he felt it was necessary to make a mean comment. He said something like "didn't your mother tell you it's rude to stare?" I wasn't even looking at him, maybe he interpreted me quietly staring at my phone as me taking pictures of him or something, I dunno. Never said a word to him, just stepped forward to grab my groceries and left. I crossed his path a couple more times before checking out, and he'd glare at me as I walked by. What a pleasant human being.
