Review by game journalist sites out.
Metacritic - 8.4 based on 69 game journalist reviews
IGN - 6.8 - This is going to cause some reeeeeing
Gamespot - 9.0

Edit: Main complaint I have seen so far is empty world (which was intentional, mind you), walking is hard and missions tend to be repeptetive. Good points are story, environment, stealth similar to MGS and strand/interactivity with others online (though IGN takes issue with some of these)

So gameplay is shit, story is good seems to be the concensus. I just hope this is more of a slow burn game so people who need instant gratification are upset about it rather than it being a shit game. Most people gave Kojima a lot of leeway with MGSVs barebones story, mainly because the gameplay was so good. This seems to be the opposite. I just hope the story makes up for any subpar gameplay.

Then again complaints about reptitive gameplay seem hilarious to me when some of these people give games like Destiny 2 an 8 and up. That game is "go here, hold this postion" ad nauseum. But we'll see, I just hope Kojima hasn't served up another half-baked game, people won't be able to put all the blame on Konami this time.

Figured amid all the doom and gloom I'd offer this. It is from a Playstation channel and the reviewer is a known and self-confessed Kojima fanboy so take it for whatever that's worth. Nice to see someone talk about the positives of the game rather than just shit on it.

There's something oddly compelling about having to get shit from point A to point B, no matter the cost, no matter the terrain.

Sort of like, "Fuck you ghost creatures, I have packages to deliver"

Also, I just had a horrifying thought... That baby gonna pick the worst possible times to start wailing.
I can see it now, the fucker is gonna cause me to get eviscerated by ghost creatures and then I'm just gonna chuck the fucker off of a cliff

Literally yoshi who?

Watching the Skill Up and Laymen reviews (spoiler free), seems far more positive than game journalist reviews, though they are Kojima fans.

- Confirms what you saw in TGS is what you get, there is no magical new gameplay, but there is a lot you haven't seen. Most of it is traversal (post apocalypse UPS simulator) - 80% traversal, 20% combat/stealth, yet it is enjoyable. Not a walking simulator, but has a lot of depth behind it. Sounds /looks boring when described but apparently is not when played.
- 30 - 45 hours - 80% gameplay, 20% Cutscenes, not like MGS games with so many cutscenes. Depends on how much you do side missions. Probably 50-60 if you go for completion.
- 60 story missions
- 70 Items to be made, all of them have a use, relies on right load-out for the right mission.
- Traversing map requires concentration due to slopes and weight/balance. Gameplay loop of going from A-B and asynchronously helping others by dropping help.
- If online, when you place items down, others will see you place the item down and be able to use it. Can only see them if connect area to Chiral Network. Building things like bridges can be done collectively (see incomplete bridge, go put resources in to finish it off), but is not required (though it helps).
- Stealth sections with BTs feel similar to a horror-stealth game rather than MGS tactical stealth. Very tense.
- BT Minibosses (The lion creature) are based upon where you are on the map, there are a few different types, and then there are actual bosses, but low. Says that some players may find the lack of variety grating. These only happen if you get caught by the BTs, so how grating also depends on how shit you are at stealth.
- Combat with BTs is on the easy side. BT Minibosses have obviously telegraphed moves. Says it's more about forcing you to use up resources and struggle later. Bosses themselves are considered mindblowing/fantastic.
- Its peak Kojima (for better or worse). Story and Cast is fantastic except main antagonist who is 1 dimensional.

Not flawless, but fantastic according to them, but not a game for everyone. Seems like it depends on whether you fall on the games as art conversation and your personal taste of game.

Kojima is the greatest charlatan in the history of video games and maybe popular entertainment in general. Other grifter "auteurs" like Molyneux and the Bioshock guy must live in awe of this man's hustle. He makes "games" that try and miserably fail to be movies and as a result is almost universally feted by game 'journalists' and even Oscar-winning actors and directors. I hope his next game is a simulation of his own life. Just imagine the fun things you could do, like getting Steven Spielberg to put on a diaper and record 15 hours of motion capture while reciting long monologues about the evils of nuclear weapons and the importance of preserving interpersonal relationships in the social media age. Metacritic rating: 95

So to be my usual crass self, this is essentially...

Adventures of FedEx Man: Ghost Apocalypse.

Take part in the adventures of roaming cross country as Norman Reedus and his sidekick Jug Baby reunites the United States through the power of Home Delivery, all the while being persued by Spooky Bois, Stick Bois, and Oily Bois. Thrill in the experience of item management and equipment maintenance to bring smiles to a nation of NEETs.

Super. I'll put it on my wish list.

Lol Edge will probably not reviewing it because the reviewer hate it

You'd think a big budget walking simulator with a journalist mode would appeal to them but I digress.

Phantom Pain burned me and I learned to never get hyped again. 20 years of devoted autism I had for that series and that's how it ended? As far as I'm concerned, both Konami and Kojima were at fault with that one, so I'm being cautious with DS. Won't be able to play it until I get back from a trip, so it'll be interesting to opinions once the dust settles.

>didn't learn the lesson after Metal Gear Solid 2
>Probably Preordered 4
>swears up an down that it was phantom pain that finally did it

Kojima-sama rooks forward to your sixty dorrahs.

Difference is I grew to like MGS2 and even parts of 4.

Checkmate, liberal.
