The tl;dr is they are the same because they are both successful, and cast things full of their friends.
So? I don't begrudge Sandler the ability to make money with even the worst drek, especially when he can invite his colleagues and friends to the sets as some sort of holiday/relaxtation months. Why should Kojima not be able to do the same?

They aren't even trying to slag Kojima by comparing Sandler with him in the article, although I suspect the article is click bait anyway because that is naturally what you'd assume. The comparison is pretty tortured, though. You could list almost any successful person and say they are basically Kojima by the low standards of that article. You could say that Kojima was the Kanye West of video games and it would make more sense.

I gotta admit, this game is very... different. As others have said not really a ground breaker or revolutionist piece, but it's nice to see Kojima's storytelling without as much overt meddling as Konami obviously had previously.

What's great is how lost I feel in not only the scenery but the setting too. The characters babble about stuff that's clearly understood to them but not to me, and unlike previous Kojima Games there's no annoying Otacon to explain to me what a pipe wrench is or other things.

Instead I have to watch what happens or what they interact with the follow some bits and pieces. Actual showing not telling which is just... nice to see.

Like the pools of muck I feel like I've been thrown into it, and really hope to enjoy more of it.

Finally got some time to play it. Got to the start of chapter 2 and so far it's been an info dump and retread through all the trailers we have seen through the years, only now with some context and some sparse gameplay throughout. Done well at sucking me in and wanting to play more/watch the story (which I think it will from Chapter 2 onwards).

Going to follow the advice I have seen in some places to get to chapter 3 first before I start going on a mass sidequest completion, as apparently faster modes of transport will happen then and the world will open up.

Time will tell whether this becomes a monotonous game like others have found it or whether I will find it more engaging.

Yes try and bust through chapter three a bit and you will get some nice goodies to make it easier to grind in the first map as well. Obligatory fuck wind farm comment here.

I think it would have been better recieved if Kojima was honest about it. People felt betrayed by it because they were expecting something far different and Kojima 'trolled them'.

It felt like Kojima was clearly not confident in expressing this would be a chill walking sim and just his those intentions and then went full passive aggressive 'YOU JUST DONT GET IT MAN'.

Drop your shit troll act for once and say it's going to be super different and explain it. He clearly didn't want to and knew it wouldn't appeal so he ducked it. Now he's being a passive aggressive little cunt about it.

Well don't trick people faggot. I always am a proponent of not wasting their time. You just wasted their time and hype and expect them to be grateful? Lol.

I honestly don't care as I never followed the game closely, but personally it feels like a huge waste of a setting for the gameplay elements Kojima chose. I'm not one for 'chill' games so it's a hard skip for me, like I don't give a fuck how pretty your game is if its empty.

Passive games like this tend to not really do well in America.

It's like why the NFL replaced Baseball. Baseball is a slower game than football.

He did take a hit to his ego so it's going to be interesting what he does with his next game. Hopefully no months of mystery box bullshit.

Kojima has always, always, made action-oriented games, stealth or no stealth. Even if he fucked with people who you were playing or what exactly were you doing or what the story was, that was always the grounding force. This time he pretended like that would be it and oops, when it wasn't that, he got completely and roundly mocked and trolled back for making a Fed-Ex simulator. I don't really think Kojima has gotten a taste of his own medicine like this ever, so its really making him salty, which is hilarious to see.

Kojima basically has a huge amount of cultists, but I've really never seen the internet turn on him this much. I suspect it will make him bitter, as someone with his ego is basically screaming 'THEY JUST DON'T GET IT' so for his next game he'll troll harder which will only explode back in his face.

I made a post in the Kojima thread, and I know a LOT will disagree, but I just don't think Kojima's writing (I think his writing is abject trash and has been replaced by better shit for a long time now. I'm bored of his absurdist crap and see it as pretentious filler, trying to be 'mysterious' while hiding your idea under 30 tons of bullshit) without good gameplay appeal can't work in a modern game-play market. The way he does things was when he had no competition story-wise and game-play was still sorting itself out. I just no longer think that works and appeals only to people with nostalgia and people who will buy anything he farts out.

Basically I see Kojima not as a genius but as a dinosaur, whose devices are extremely old hat and have made no progress while the gaming industry has leapt far ahead of him. If he was confident in his idea, he would have let people know, but he clearly wasn't and was very self conscious about it. Now he's facing the consequences for being a pussy.

I know people in this thread will probably lampoon me for this, but there's nothing innovative about 'inventory jenga', micromanagement and 'hold down move to balance'.

Yeah I said something similar where all his other games(outside of Tokimeki Memorial and Maybe Snatcher and Policenauts since they were text adventures) were all action games and people were at least expecting something along the lines of that. DS isn't anywhere close to stuff like Metal Gear in terms of keeping the player engaged since it's closer to a puzzle or simulation game than anything else.

There's no real constant threat of danger like in something like Deus Ex, Thief or Dark Souls. Fights are treated as a sometimes event and it's more about using tools and menu systems to go from point A to point B.

Giving the player exploration tools can be a good thing but it needs stuff to really justify it. Like how Dark Souls had the secret pathway where you could avoid the lava pit filled with those huge ass demons which were nothing but giant walking bottom halves of dragons(and who were annoying as hell to fight).

Like if DS was filled with giant Eldritch horrors that could fuck you up, it would be nice to have the ability to walk around them and avoid them by any means necessary.

All I know is. I got an otter hood and am in the mountains trying to find lost cargo and I am having an enjoyable experience.

It's also expensive as fuck now.

I remember when I bought it I was debating if I should have waited it to be cheaper or just drop the 20 bucks now.
I wouldn't put it in the same category as Death stranding, it kind of felt like an atmospheric JPRG-lite, if that makes sense. DS looks like something a neuro-divergant person might create, not in a perjorative way, though.

Exactly, pretty much. Its hilarious because he made this 'dangerous' world and 90% of it is just nothing. I'd argue its barely a puzzle game as the UI is a fucking living nightmare for the puzzle section and its not a simulation because its just simulating walking and climbing, something a vast majority of games do. I'd argue he tried developing something, got distracted by whatever expository trash he was telling, and left it half-baked. More accurately, he wanted to hang out with celebrities on Sony's dime and left it half baked. Now he's passive aggressive and butthurt when people mock him for fucking up.

I mean, if you enjoy it, you enjoy it. I don't know how you're enjoying a fucking $60 inventory jenga simulator while walking through pretty pictures having to endure Kojima's nonsensical, self-important trash storty-telling for 20 fucking hours while only having 10 hours of overall game time, but that's just me.

Pretty much. It should be harrowing to get to point A to point B. Have the Elderitch horrors be unkillable and a huge danger. How is there any sense of urgency when 90% is open space? Its fucking pointless.

Lets be honest, Death Standing would have been better received if someone with autism made it, because they'd be fucking honest about it. The game play would also be better and have more in depth. Not even an autistic person wants to be staring at nothing for 10 hours.

Kojima hid everything about Death Stranding behind his garbage story and 'trolling', knowingly, meaning he's not autistic and just a hack.

Hot Take: Death Standing would be a better game if an autistic man made it rather than Hideo Kojima.

Are you implying kojima isnt an autistic man driven by his own ego and hollywood fetish?

That is the one major disappointment that I have, the BT’s are so non-threatening that they are just an inconvenience when I am trying to deliver some mother fucking happy pills to some random dude way off the beaten path so he doesn’t off himself. They are annoying and more of a time waster then anything else even when they get you the “fight” to get out is dead simple.

If the main mode was the “Easy mode I just want to deliver packages and have a slight hassle” mode. Then cool but I would prefer to have the mean old ghost actively trying to get my ass, even if the combat stays the same it makes the delivery more engaging trying to really weave your way though the baddies.

Granted my greatest battle is building the roads by myself. I think the rest of the people on my server built like two sections of road on the second map and I have built almost the rest of them. Got the road from the top of the map all the way down to the south and am working on the one moving west.

Yeah, specifically the part that annoys me about them is that when you get into a BT filled area, you get stunned for 2-3 seconds to hear ominous music, and then when you get within a certain range of BTs you get stunned again for 5-8s to hear some ominous music and see BB make your scanner flip out. These two stuns can be literally 2 seconds apart and in two places they happen right on the fucking road even though you are in absolutely no danger of aggroing a BT from the road. Also the whole "BB makes the scanner point out BTs" is useless when you're in a truck and has too short of a range to be useful on a cycle.

The fucking slowdown is what kills me, you can skip pretty much every cutscene in the game but you can’t skip the scanner animation. That is incredibly annoying, just make a loud noise and vibrate the controller we don’t need to see the same animation over and over.

You think he's just an edgelord gone to seed?

This all would be implying that Kojima had any idea what the game was going to be about up until recently.

Look at how the first thing he showed off about the game was its ensemble cast and "ooh, so spooky" aesthetic. Nothing about the gameplay was mentioned up until they basically had to discuss it. Then there's the fact that he said the game would be about "building bridges around walls" after Trump's election, yet he never hesitates to say that he had the vision of the game since before Trump was elected!

Any cursory glance at the mess that is MGS's plot should tell you that Kojima makes shit up as he goes and then tries to excuse contradictions and plot holes with a handwave.
