Now that we have at least two trailers with at least some context I'm finding myself enjoying theorizing about the factions of the world. Specifically what BRIDGES is, which appeared in the second and now this recent third trailer. It seems like the main character Porter is a member of this faction, and may be the de-facto government of this post-apocalyptic (raptured?) world.

We haven't seen any women, and capsule babies appear to be some sort of ward against the demons/extradimensional entities. Remaining humans may lack the ability to reproduce. In the trailer it seems like having a baby-capsule powers the backpack entity detector, and may give you the ability to see the entities. Some have suggested a literal rapture and that those who are left behind are soulless, and babies act as a surrogate soul to tether them to the world or something (this is just fun head-canon of course).

The team in this third trailer seem to be members of "Corpse Disposal Team 6", and were in the process of transporting a body before crashing. Clearly the crew felt being taken was worse than death, and have an elaborate process for corpse disposal. This indicates that there is a real concern about either a eternity in hell situation (re: souls) or that by being taken you fuel the other-worldly-entities (but corpses are still a concern?).

We created the "Bridges" technology featured on the badge. It was inter-dimensional travel that linked the US and likely the world. Only we fucked up and collided with something that essentially broke our dimension and reality itself. Which has altered the flow of time and allowed beings that live outside of our three dimension time centric reality to flow into our own/created these beings through the device.

I'm probably going to have more fun thinking about this than actually playing the game, and the real story will probably be worse than anything that gets discussed. I'm a fan of SCP so this type of psychological horror stuff is pretty cool in my book.

I want to know what was up with that guy aging 40 years in like a minute.

The autist on reddit are in full analysis mode and i am expecting a report very soon, we are talking about the guys that manage to catch the formulas in Norman reedus necklace in the first trailer and did a replica of it, Kojima has one

Thing is, this is Kojima basically untethered, allowed to make whatever the fuck he wants. Story-wise Kojima and Reedus are going to do what they want with nobody being around to stop them.

Gameplay-wise, thankfully Yoji Shinkawa and Shinji Hirano came with Kojima when Konami decided to gank the company, so they'll have the spray bottles at the ready when he suggests a six month long boss battle.

The only thing that might be sure with this is that Kojima could throw a few movie references in this along with some weird mind-boggling things that make you wonder if its magic or something else (i.e. the Pain having bees, Fortune being able to not get hit by bullets, etc.) Considering Bridges, one could think America is fractured. The pin does say united cities rather than united states.

I want to know what was up with that guy aging 40 years in like a minute.
Considering how aging involves getting grabbed by those things and suicide seems to be preferable, one can assume its not pretty.

In a sorta related sense, HBomber Guy tries to make some tweet related to Death Stranding, not realizing how pretentious it sounds.

Kojima's westaboo tendencies really shone through in that new trailer. The premise had a big "american action movie" vibe to me.

Incidentally Kojima saw Blade Runner 2049 at least three times and that's not surprising at all because that film was the movie equivalent of an hour long Kojima cutscene sequence.

hmm, i wonder why people tend to think movie fans are pretentious
One could point out HBomberguy is being nothing more than a pretentious idiot, especially since the memes for the baby were already done. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if this guy had other moments similar to this.

So guys, which genre is this game from?
I'm going with the idea that it's a stealth action shooter, probably with vehicles, much like MGSV. They're using the Decima Engine, which has been exclusively used for first and third person shooters, most recently Horizon Zero Dawn.

The necklace worn by the the main character has fundamental laws of physics engraved on them. I feel this gives credence to a theoretical physics (teleportation?) mishap, like the resonance cascade (last explosion?) from Half-Life. This is also basically the same plot as Stephen King's The Mist.

>schwarzchild radius of a black of mass M
>dirac's equation
>two dimensional spin wavefunction
>schrodinger equation
>symmetrical wave function of two particles (bosons)

last is ineligible

I would say this with a bunch of hyper-technical Dark Souls style boss fights thrown in.

You know, the recent trailer gave me some Prey (2017) vibes. It's probably just because both games have black goo aliens, but eh.

Somebody noted how much Nuclear matches the latest trailer

He's literally " Standing on the edge of the crater, like the prophets once said"

Yeah, I'm getting that vibe as well, was never a massive MGS guy frankly but this looks quite intriguing. I deffo like the sensor on the team's back, that looks interesting. Then again, I like third person shooters to the point I enjoyed the Order 1886, so my mileage may vary.

Interview with Kojima: http://ign.com/articles/2017/12/11/kojima-explains-death-stranding-gameplay-and-lore (https://archive.fo/A8ztR)

  • The underwater scene in the trailer after the explosion is where you go when you die in-game (maybe only if you have an active fetus?). Sounds like you'll possibly lose items/XP that you can recover in a Dark Souls-style mechanic.
  • The water/rain in the world causes accelerated aging, the main character (Sam) seems to resist this effect (called "Timefall"): “Most people in the game are aware of the rain -- and well, Norman is quite unique in this regard… I think I should stop there. I’m spilling the beans.” When we asked if this Timefall had anything to do with the recurring motif of Sam crying, Kojima joked, “…the tears…that’s really only because he’s sad right now.”
  • The baby shown in the trailers are all the same baby: "We asked Kojima if, in fact, the baby that washed upon a shore, transported into a tube, and appeared inside Sam’s esophagus was one and the same. He confirmed that it was."
