I haven't touched the game before is it any good?
No.
If you like getting screamed at by Russians in the EU servers, then be my guest.
Communication and Coordination is terrible unless you're playing higher tiers, but then you get players who throw the game because you're building a suboptimal build.
Also Yoshi self-admittedly broke the matchmaking recently. Just wait for the patch.
>Yoshi's Island
Unfortunately, true, a lot of the cast is either a turbo mega murder-hobo-rapist (drifter), or is extremely deranged. They're not even cool murder-hobos.
He's probably the coolest fucking character they've put in the game and his kit looks so fun
I've said it elsewhere, but this is as close we'll ever get to Valve making a WH40K game.
The lore behind the game is actually more interesting than the moba itself. I wish Valve made a single-player for this game instead. Oh well.

Just played a game with Rem, Celeste, Graves and Apollo on the same team and all I have to say is the power creep is unbelievably real. A 1-8 Graves is legit stronger than a full build McGinnis just cause of her shitty zombies with a 60 second CD. Celeste having four stamina and better aerial control than Holiday just cause she's floaty as fuck for some god unknown reason being able to move halfway across the map in seconds while being the 20th fucking spirit nuker added into this shitty ass game. Now this nigger faggot Apollo that's just Celeste, but red? I see why MOBA's make some people want to (metaphorically) put a gun in their fucking mouth. I am coping and I am seething.

Regarding power creep, at this point I'm positive Rem's going to get his 3 nerfed hard next patch. If you're laned with someone who doesn't need you clinging tenaciously to their buttocks in the first 5 minutes, take helpers as your first skill and make sure it's on the heal creep every wave. It's an absolutely insane level of lane shutdown and tends to result in at least one early kill.

Is there more depth to Apollo than there looks to be? He's the only hero this patch where I've looked at the kit and had zero interest in even trying it.

I'd say Silver and Venator are pretty balanced and should need just some more fine tuning to bring some of their aspects more in line with others, Silver ult is pretty annoying when you pair it with how useless towers are in this game, which basically means that she can waltz under anything without taking damage. Venator has a strong ult, but outside of that his kit is pretty manageable, since traps have counterplay and his gun has a short range for a gun carry.
Graves and Rem have some pretty glaring issues with their summons. Rem basically forces you to buy monster rounds just to be able to push back the lane most of the time at first, and by the end of the game two buffed minions can basically pull all the way to the shrines if you don't deal with them. Graves has kind of the same issue but way less annoying than Rem, and both of them should have the duration on their summons cut off.
Celeste is too strong right now, and they will either gut her movement or her kit, most likely the amp in the 3.

Is there more depth to Apollo than there looks to be? He's the only hero this patch where I've looked at the kit and had zero interest in even trying it.
I think he plays nicely, very mechanically rewarding character to play, reminds me a lot of Fiora from league. His ult is basically a Virgil slice.

Yeah, the game's aesthetic is all over the place. I thought it was supposed to be set in the 1930s, with an occult twist, but looks like they got a new character artist and she's making some tumblr-ass bisexual anime shit. Very generic. Extremely current day, not as timeless as Valve's usual fare or even some of the older models.
Deadlock looks like modern TF2 except instead of the aesthetic being ruined with community cosmetics its like that by default.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I found out Celeste wasn't a tranny character.

How does everyone rank the new heroes? From my personal play-style below are my favorites. I like Venator's design but I really don't like his kit, it is kind of boring.
1. Rem
2. Graves
3. Celeste
4. Apollo
5. Silver
6. Venator

1. Rem
2. Graves
3. Celeste
4. Apollo
5. Silver
6. Venator
Visual design/personality-wise:
1. Venator: Clean, simple but full of personality. Nice silhouette, good concept and I like how he uses one of those mexican saint candles as his underbarrel grenade launcher.

2. REM: Cute, very unique design. The voice is a little grating.

-a significant gap-

3. Celeste: Looks better than I expected, and her mess of colors makes sense for a circus performer. Should've had bigger tits.

4. Silver: Looks like a tumblr furry in human form. Too skinny and young looking to be a tired, alcoholic mess like her voicelines suggest.

5. Graves: Too modern in my opinion. No one wore space buns before the 1990s. They nailed the annoying teenager personality, which I hate.

6. Apollo: This nigga is just tumblr incarnate. Fuckin dark academia twink boy with trendy horns. I do like how he calls Infernus a house Ixian.

Gameplay-wise:
1. REM: fun, active support with a bullshit ultimate.

2. Apollo: I like aggro melee glue-huffers like Yamato and Calico, so Apollo is a good fit.

3. Celeste: Flying around is fun, and she does big damage.

4. Venator: Shoot guns RATTATATATATATA. Not too exciting, but the shotgun blast is fun to use.

5. Silver: Okay human form. Hate how the transformation happens automatically. When in wolf you become a retarded monkey glue-huffer that's too dumb even for me.

6. Graves: I hate auto-aim guns, hate her stupid wall that reminds me of Pit of Malice. Her ult is somehow a worse version of Undying's tombstone but at the same time it's more infuriating to play against. She's also in EVERY FUCKING STREET BRAWL GAME HOLY FUCK GIVE IT A REST.

1. Rem

3. Celeste

5. Silver
6. Venator
1. Rem. Like i've said a very fun and versatile kit, the voice acting has grown on me a bit. But other than that he's basically tailor made for me and my new main.

2. Venator. Great kit and the recent update fixed some of the jank. But he's kind of a solution looking for a problem since this game only really has three tanks. Abrams is a pushover and Mo has pocket sand that disables most of venators damage. I'm not even going to mention the potential man. Best voice actor.

3. Apollo. Literally just better calico without the cat. Also the best animations from the whole drop.

4. Silver. Bane of my existence as vyper and the reason why I don't play her anymore until the new tag drops and i can ban her. Played her once and went like 0/11

5. Graves. Annoying to deal with but not the end of the world. If you have a mobile hero on your team who isn't in total unga bunga mode she's manageable.

6. Celeste. Who's fucking bright idea was to make an AoE spirit nuker that doesn't have to work for it? Lash and Pocket have to use good positioning, combo multiple abilities and after they burst they have a long CD where they're extremely vulnerable. And their ults are counterspellable. She meanwhile has permanent mobility, punishes you for trying to engage her and has Shock & Ball torture to make sure you loose the team fight. Even if she's on cooldown for everything she can just spam her gun in your general direction and still hit for good damage,

1. Apollo: Yamato 2. Super fun mobile and strong kit. Specifically crazy mobility with flawless advance (big hitbox too for some reason), it's too fun. And his ult is easily the most hype in the game. He really needs a few tweaks though. Ult's hitbox is dummy thick. really don't even need to aim it, and also rips through map geometry constantly. Rebuttal used to work with his 2 which definitely wasn't intended either.

2. Rem: An actually good support, and best boy. Load up on active items and cc/buff all game. Feels great to sustain a team with healing tempo. Pretty fun overall, landing pillow toss is satisfying. Finally no longer a menace to lane against after this most recent patch.

3. Silver: Technical feast-or-famine character. I haven't really played her too much but her kit has a bit of everything. The newest patch made it easier to get into lycan form though, which I don't think was really needed. Spirit scaling on her 2 is now 1x to 2x, and her resists in lycan form got lowered a bit which I think is good, as her late game sustain is already so good.

4. Venator: Cool dude, glad to see another gun character in with a cool kit. I wish the grenades scaled a bit better late game and his traps weren't so awkward to position, considering they can just be destroyed in a few shots. His ult went from a golden gun to a slightly better Talon charged shot. Hope they buff it just a little bit in the future. Apparently nerfed recently, hate to see it.

5. Celeste: Ridiculous spirit truke: the character. Very fun movement with air-strafing. Hate to play against her and her ult, don't really jive with her design either. Barrier's stupid good too.

6. Graves: I don't even mind her auto-aim gimmick, I think her kit is just really boring. Pretty good at area denial, but she's not fun at all to play for me.

Finally got an invite, after adding complete strangers on the discussion page who often would beg for CS skins, or random shit I had.

I've always found mobas gay, but somehow Valve has done it. While I am still learning the complete basics since this is my first moba, I've been getting good games with Drifter. Plenty of assistant's since I've been using one of those online builds. Which half the shit doesn't make sense to me, but it does feel good to outplay those with basic movement skills.

Fun game, though. Got me hooked on for 6 hours straight.
The most you need to know as a beginner is that filling item slots is the fastest way to get yourself the most stats, based on the item category selected. It's why most item guides will mention something about either selling or holding off on getting certain items until you've filled up your item slots.

Design and character wise
1, Venator, he is by far the coolest goddamn character in this game, his design is simple and clean, not overdone or messy. his voice acting and writing are also the best in the game. Valve really hit it out of the park with him and i hope we get more characters like him later down the line.

2, Rem. a sleepy glup shitto. i think his design is adorable and I'd like a few more weird outlandish characters like him. his voice acting is... fine? it's grown on me but i'd rather it be something else more often than not.

3, Apollo. he IS just a tiefling but i feel like it works. i like his color palette and his jacket a lot. i really like how arrogant he is and how he shits on everyone constantly. make more assholes like lash and apollo valve.

4, Celeste. her voice acting really carries her i think. her VA did a great job. her design looks better in motion than i thought it would based on the still we were voting on. but i still think it's way too much, even for a circus performer, her big fucking horseshoe tattoo on her belly is ugly. also, she should have been stacked.

5, Silver. she's just boring looking. i like her werewolf form but regular is just meh. her mutt ears look awful and shouldn't be there. i don't really like the tail either but it adds to her silhouette and allows you to more easily tell her out of a crowd. she looks way too young to be this alcoholic bounty hunter and it just doesn't work. though she has a southern accent that stops her from being the bottom of the barrel which is.

6, Graves. she should be much higher for me as i really love necromancers but she just fucking sucks. her design is boring and also really on the nose? it wasn't enough to have ONE skull on her outfit? it's on her chest AND her backpack? her hairstyle doesn't fit, her voice acting is maybe the worst? she's so monotone and bored sounding all the time, no emotion almost ever. i know they're going for the bitchy bratty teenager and i suppose they've done it well but i fucking despise her writing and VA.

Kit.
1, Rem. he's got a really fun kit. he gets access to a whole portion of the map no one else does (Besides calico) because he's so small. his little gremlins being able to farm and push lanes are awesome. his pillow might be THE most satisfying abilty to land. his ult is strong but not broken unlike a lot of the characters that were released. and his sleep gives him a reason to buy a lot of utility items most characters don't bother with. he's by far the most fun i've had in this game.

2, Apollo. he's got the aggressive short range character shtick i really like. his ult is incredibly good and very fun to land. his 2 is essentially another counter spell baked into his kit which is very fun to land. his three seems almost broken? it's a bit early to tell, but it has a way bigger hitbox than you'd think, hits very hard and can trigger some items multiple times, if you delay his three as much as possible, and buy some item cooldown you can trigger mystic reverb on every hit of his three. his 1 is a bit awkward to use aggressively but unique enough.

3, Celeste. carried entirely by her very floaty movement. burst mage with a VERY good teamfight ult. i think her kits pretty boring barring her ult and her innate movement.

4, Venator. despite having the coolest design in the game, his kit's simple and safe with the only real standout being his ult which is both very strong very satisfying to land.

5, Silver. she seems like she's a lot more complicated than other characters because she has double the abilities but she really isn't, and her abilities are very simple and boring in both forms. her ult is brainless, you get so tanky and fast you can belligerently just walk the enemies down 9 times out of 10.

6, Graves. actually THE most brainless character, her entire kit has no skill expression. her 1 you just throw in the general area and it will autotarget. her ult you place behind a veil, or somewhere high and it just shits out ghouls. her 3 is a passive and you just sit her 2 in the middle of a teamfight. she doesn't even have to AIM because she's got a damn autotarget beam. but in spite of being a character a 3 year old could use, she's also incredibly strong, so you see her in like 90 percent of games. i fucking hate Graves.

I got an invite for this about a year ago but never gave it a try. The latest update got me tempted though. Any tips for a MOBA retard?

>tips

The stats will seem overwhelming and weird at first, but summarize to orange = leftclick damage, green = hp, purple = ability damage. Aside from what items give you functionally, you get buffs based on the total value of the items in each category you're holding (e.g. buying a bunch of purple gives you some extra spirit). Those are the three little colored bars it shows under everyone's portraits.

The valve-suggested builds are weird and kind of bad a lot of the time. Treat them as 'items that could be good situationally on this character' rather than a hard guide on what to build in a set order.

The game is very vague about the meaning of 'melee' and doesn't clearly explain that your Q attack and abilities that say they do 'melee-type' damage are treated the same internally. Spam F when bebop hooks you, more likely than not he's going to try to uppercut you and that's a melee you can parry.

You can dick around in the sandbox area in the lobby while searching for a match, using the teleporter won't take you out of queue.

I just read some deadlock lore

And it has its own nazi chud group called "friends of humanity", who is hunted by vindicta and grey talon. This explains the sweet baby and Valve partnership way back, only time will tell if they give us a hero from that "group"

I'm new to MOBA games in general and my friends got me to try it. Even prior to playing I watched some deathy guides on it and even then the learning curve felt so high. The movement feels great for the most part at least on infernus and drifter. I played a few games and each game ranged from 25-30 minutes. It didn't feel like that long had passed which I suppose is a good and bad thing; good in how immersive it is, bad in how I spent 30 min getting my shit kicked in.

I can immediately tell I don't have the experience and game sense to know what i'm doing on lanes or when I should be running around killing, or when to engage against other players. I've been using some of the steam recommended builds and basically following them in best as I can. I know that you're meant to make alterations based on the enemies but at this point I don't even know enough to know what i'm doing let alone the nuances of builds.

It seems like this game is going to needs 10s of hours on my end to actually learn the mechanics of the game and what a MOBA even is and have some game sense. I don't know if I even want to make that dedication.
