Why does everyone sound Canadian in Dead Rising 2? Anyone notice that?
Because the game was made in Canada. With Canadian voice actors. Carl the Mailman is voiced by Double D.
This. The entire Dead Rising franchise was essentially handed off to Capcom Vancouver (formerly known as "Blue Castle Games" back during Dead Rising 2).

Assuming I haven't played DR2 -I bounced off it pretty hard back in the day, but want to give it another shot - is there any reason to go with Off The Record if I'm not interested in multilayer?
Most of the content are there for both games, and OTR is considered a "Director's Cut" edition of the game since it has more of it, but for all intents and purposes these are two different games. Each one has a different protagonist and a slightly different story, with their own movesets/playstyles and different missions, along with items being scattered in different places that will throw you off if you played one game or the other. These games are on the short side by design, your playthru will take anywhere from 6-8 hours and no more, so there is no reason not to play both of them. I suggest playing Dead Rising 2 first and then playing OTR to appreciate all the changes the game has made. As someone who played both recently, I can't tell you which one is better even tho OTR technically has more content, each one should be judged by it's own merit.
I will you it's not all sunshine and rainbows with OTR tho, friendly AI has been dumbed down and the survivors are not nearly as strong as their DR2 counterparts. This was likely done because people joked about how little help the DR2 survivors need from you if you give them a good weapon, now even if you give them a good gun they still need to be watched carefully if you don't want them to lose huge chunks of health from zombies. OTR is also glitchier, I don't know why that is but expect to find more technical problems and weird bugs as you play OTR. There is little changes that don't make sense either in OTR, for example the Bike magazine that increases durability with the motorcycle is locked behind Case 3-2 in Dead Rising 2, giving you plenty of time to make use of it. In OTR, it is locked behind Case 7-3, in the area outside the Sergeant Psycho fight. This means that the magazine is borderline useless in the 72 hour mode with how late you get it, and it's only useful in Sandbox mode where that area is always open. DR2 has fewer issues like this, I feel it's a more stable and balanced experience even if OTR has many QoL changes and more content.

So yeah, play both, DR2 and then OTR.

Honestly, they did a better job than they had any right to. Even DR3 was mostly an issue of direction. They had good ground-level workers and a stronger grasp of the Havoc engine than most of the industry.
Direction really is the biggest issue here. The engine and the open world is perfect for a Dead Rising game, if they focused on making the mechanics similar to the previous titles instead of making an easy, action packed title for the Xbox crowd I think it would be better received. As is, it's a fun little sandbox game, but as someone who recently played the hell out of every single relevant Dead Rising game, it doesn't scratch the same itch as they do. I wish the modding scene would be more active to fix these issues.

Well, DR3 can go fuck itself. Was enjoying myself to the extent I chose to chase up all the collectibles and complete PP trials. Decided to play through the DLC missions, and ran into a glitch where having to park a vehicle was literally impossible - the garage was shut tight, the only route in was blocked by an immovable vehicle, and no amount of wiggling could get through.

Issue persisted after several reloads, so I decided to go into Nightmare mode...annnnnd my collectibles reset, as did a load of my PP trials.

Yeah, fuck right off with that.

Can I ask which DLC mission this was from? As someone with quite literally hundreds of hours and several 100% playthrus(recently one for all the achievements) in this game I never had this happen to me, but lord knows this game has a few nasty bugs in it so maybe I just need a reminder.

It was the one where you play as Kain, the army dude. Have to drive an APC back to the taxi garage and park it there. Problem is one door was shut, the other was blocked by that supply truck.

I found maybe two examples of other people suffering this glitch, but nobody knew how to fix it. That it cost me meta progress was an extra helping of shit.

That never happened to me, then. I did spend one day playing this DLC like 4 times in a row, one after another, because I drank a bit more whiskey than I would like to admit and thought this would be a terrific way to spend an evening, and I still didn't get a single bug upon any replay, let alone the one with an APC. Bad luck on your part, I guess. The DLC is significantly more buggy than the main game, especially the last two episodes where it is apparent that the time and budget has ran out. Collectibles are also bugged, it's a well established truth for those going for collectible achievements that the game might just bug out and you will have to start a file over if you want them to count for the achievement. I had to do this twice this summer for the DLC collectibles, mind you I was level 50 both of these times when the restart was required so I leveled up to max rank+(with all the perks I wanted) 3 times in just as many weeks. PP is way too easy to grind in this game, so unless you're also going for the achievements, I would say don't bother trying to collect them all. Unless the game took away your weapon or vehicle schematics, you should be fine.

If I remember correctly, the only way that gate to the taxi company HQ opens is if a soldier walks up and manually pushes a button to open it. I'm guessing the soldier was on a piss break, or despawned or god knows what, anything is possible with the NPCs in this engine.

Gonna bump this thread cause I'm looking for good Dead Rising 1 mods. Not the demake nobody is talking about anymore, but the Steam release of the original game. I've been wondering if there are any good mods for it, and I can't seem to find anything. Texture mods, randomizers, model swaps, that's about all I can find. The modding scene is so amateurish that I've seen "mods" that are just cheat tables for cheat engine.

Are there any actual good DR1 mods that would make the game worth installing on a computer if I have a 360 copy? I know DR2, OTR and even DR3 have some decent overhaul mods that add new quests, survivors, weapons, cut content ect. but I just don't see anything like that with the first game. You would think Shillpo360 would be all over it like flies on shit, but apparently he made a few token TGS mods and a cheat mod for the safehouse that adds a blender and teleporters, not much else.

Watchdog trainer by STiP0 is basically a must have, tons of useful features + cheats.
There exists a version for modded consoles/dev-kits if you happen to own one.

Don't know how useful it is to what you're searching for, but the series' dedicated forum might be a decent place to look.

I assume that's where you started your search though, considering you mentioned a modicum of minor miscellaneous change mods, but I want to leave it here as a resource for anyone else so inclined. Sorry if this is retreading what you've already gone over, disregard my post if so.

There really isn't any other place to get mods other than this forum. Nexus has a handful, ModDB has maybe one or two. Sad that nobody ever bothered to actually mod the game properly, I always wanted to see what this engine is capable of and have more fun with the game, but I guess you can't expect much from a community that straight up tells you to go to their discord server for any sort of meaningful conversation when they still have a perfectly good forum.

I guess I will skip the first game(unless there is a good randomizer mod) and maybe try and mod 2/OTR/3. This franchise has a fantastic sandbox, what a shame there is so little done with it.

Not really. Off the Record tackles the exact same subject matter of Frank being a famous celebrity and crashing out after his 15 minutes of fame way better and much more in line with his original characterization.
DR4 was a mess, which isn't surprising considering that the devs were doing quite literally everything BUT Dead Rising and only had to stitch this shitty pseudo-reboot together in less than a year to meet obligations. You could tell nobody at the studio wanted to make a Dead Rising game or cared about source material anymore, altho that's not surprising considering that most of the devs from DR2/3 days quit by that point. DR5 looked more promising, if anything they should have focused on that project.

Anyways, it looks like the game that needs it most, DR4, doesn't even support modding. Considering how little time and resources the project had, it's baffling that they wasted time incorporating anti-modding measures, especially since the modding scene for these games was never big to begin with. This game really is nothing but disappointments, huh? I guess I won't play this one either. The demaster is off the table for obvious reasons, which only leaves 2/OTR/3 as I already talked about. What a waste of potential this IP has.

THere is that OTR mod that adds and changes a bunch of stuff. Its been a while but I remember I had a good time with it.

I think that they did all they realistically could with it honestly. A trilogy is enough to tell a cohesive plot and altho DR3's got very bonkers after a point, it still ended things reasonably well and conclusively.

After the demake, it confirms to me its best to leave sleeping dogs lie as I hope to god that DR2 doesnt get the same treatment.

Storywise, yes, but I want to explore that sandbox and push it to the extremes, kind of like what Infinity mode did with the original Dead Rising. I was hoping this is where modders would step in, but I guess not. Hell, I will just settle for cut content to be brought back, but the closest we get is Stipo trying to shill his channel with drip-fed content, or used to before he failed at becoming a crapcom influencer anyways. I agree that the franchise should remain dormant if the demake is the best we can hope from Capcom, but at the same time I expected more out of the fanbase.

Okay so, since we are on the topic, I just got reminded of that stupid "We are dead" music video because it was on every "Activity" feed of every Dead Rising game so I decided to do a cringe watch and the video posted on that feed has been privated LOL

Idk what this means (it could be possibly be a silent admission this game was a flop and that Capcom is trying to bury it) but atm, only the Gamespot trailer version remains on the entirety of youtube. If you look it up, thats literally the only channel that still has it, otherwise, it could possibly fall into lost media so to anyone that cares to preserve this nonsense, there's your warning.

Edit: Omg, if you sort the comments from earliest, the last one was from fucking 6/7 months ago! :story:

Fuck me, man, no one gives a shit about this game, especially this dumbass cringe trailer.
