DbD design contests are always so funny to me. So many shitty designs for survivors that no one plays, like Haddie. The only people I've seen playing haddie are people who do it ironically or people who look like her in real life. We've had some good community designs (looking at you, Mr.Puddles) but the vast majority are so bad. Look at this. Does anyone think this looks good?

There's always some fun looking designs at least, but good luck finding them in the ocean of shit.

Yeah and I especially don’t understand the grievances people have with some of the fan designs for the Unknown character. Ain’t the whole point that it’s supposed to be trying to mimic/skinwalk people?
Yeah the art for most of the designs tends to be shit, but what did you expect with the playerbase? Not everyone can be an artist, all that matters is that the ideas are being expressed efficiently enough that an actual semi-competent person who is getting paid can later turn them into something feasible if the design wins.

After a short browse, I think my biggest gripe with the submissions I’ve seen is that a noticeable amount of designs rely “subverting expectations” for their appeal instead of doing anything actually creative or interesting. A horror character? But PINK and covered in SUPER KAWAII STUFF??? Oh, how daring! It’s on the same level as “imagine [insert innocent childhood thing] but *gasp* evil?!?!” It’s super common with the fan designs for non-killer/“survivor”(?) characters but it just feels particularly egregious to me when applied to the monster characters.
Oh, and all the Japanese folklore inspired skins that every game has done a million times before.

The best designs I’ve seen so far have been for that The Singularity character, but that character also seems to be the one that is drawing the most artists with actual design skills. As opposed to that one Sable Ward character who every player with a pulse is chomping at the bit to make a Goth Variant #278173394629 cosmetic for (which I guess is the characters thing, but even a little creativity goes a long way when every design so far looks the damn same)

I’m also hearing that apparently they only accept submissions from Europe if it comes from the UK, France, or Germany? I’m sure there’s some legal reason for it but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I feel a bit bad for all the people that excludes.
