Worth mentioning Elon also complies to any court order that asks for user info, so if you're in a country that penalizes wrong speak xitter will cooperate

I'm not talking legality but what actually is the case for tracking where he is at all times. If someone did that to me I'd think they were planning to kill me.

There is a difference between being able to say the emperor has no clothes and stalking someone.

He has aircraft. Aircraft are, for reasons of not crashing into other aircraft, supposed to report where they are.

He's not flying them within his private property, any more than I drive on private roads to and from my pub. I have no expectation of privacy driving back from the pub (which, if you seen me drive back from the pub, and the police chasing me, you should be damn grateful for) so why should he expect privacy for his planes?

And he's fine with people tracking Taylor Swift's jets.

Is is weird and stalkerish? Probably.

You know I have heard that aircraft get tracked. But it's usually done for, as you say, reasons of not crashing into other aircraft. Not because some random person wants to know where the pilot or the passenger is at all times. It's just weird and my point is that calling it "Free Speech" is little to do with not being silenced for your views.

Honestly it's a little like some dude filming girls on a Saturday night to upload and saying "it's a public place. Free Speech" as he shoves his camera at her butt. Some people equate law with morality. I'd be a little perturbed if someone kept reporting on my location at all times, too.

I think it’s good that we have the ability to know where the billionaires who run the world are moving around. They are public figures, and knowing which airport they landed at is hardly staring through their bedroom windows.
Let’s face it, these same billionaires track everyone who uses their products down to the millimetre, including what they say or think.

And I’m sure they don’t like people observing how many tons of CO2 they personally release daily while preaching to everyone else about economising to save the planet.

That's fair. There's an undefined point where "public interest" kicks in, but I don't know how to define it.
"Current position of world's richest man" is public interest: "Current skirt length of Sharon from Stoke-on-Trent" is not, but unless we are allowed to beat certain people it's kind of academic.

Literally all aircrafts are tracked for the public to see:


There's been instances where an aircraft has been in trouble and people could track it in real time to see it "go down" on the chart. If Musk absolutely did not want to be tracked with his private jet then he'd just rent an anonymous jet instead of owning. In fact, I doubt he's even on the majority of the flights since people who own private jets tend to rent them out to others. His banning of that account was never about him worrying about people learning his location since it would literally be a shot in the dark for anyone who wanted to stalk him.

Uh, unless GPUs are going to make bandwidth irrelevant, that's not happening. The cost of the hardware is basically one month's cost of bandwidth expenses.
