Works on my end. Pretty cool tech!
For the less technical,
@troonshine has essentially created a ddos protection clearnet mirror of the site by routing traffic in a special way. Like you're taking a ride in a mail van instead of a taxi, the mail van is capable of taking people to a destination but its not really meant for that. But it comes with the advantage that mail vans are always allowed to drive over the (ddos) protected highway.
For the love of god, please don't run your mouth about shit and try to "explain" things you do not understand. This is not any sort of novel or cool tech, and is the second time I've seen users suggest reverse proxies THEY ARE HOSTING for other users to log in to. This applies to the quoted post, tor2web, and any other similar suggestions in this thread.
DO NOT DO THIS.
Anyone who runs this, tor2web, or any other similar service can sniff all traffic between all users and the site. This means they can steal passwords, view/edit account info, hijack sessions to impersonate any users who route through their proxy or even route users to a fake clone of the site with replaced dono links, etc. These posts should disallowed, edited to redact these user run services, or at the very least have very strong disclaimers or discourage anyone from logging in through them altogether. In your analogy this would be much more comparable to giving a stranger your ID, wallet, and SSN and hoping that they would go pretty please run some errands and come back.
I have never felt so bad for Josh after reading how many people are throwing their two cents into the ring to suggest things that were litigated one page prior, and before that going back to the beginning of the thread.
TOR is not hard. You literally download one browser, Brave and click open new window with tor, or you download the tor browser and it just works. There is no way to safely make it more convenient than that, and if that is too much, then the users for who that is too much work can't and probably shouldn't login to the site, especially with so many fiveheads making suggestions like this.
Another quick tip, don't use/bookmark .onion addresses for the site if they are not posted by staff. It is trivially easy to make an address that looks similar, at the very least check that the first and last several characters are exactly the same.
Everybody is bummed that the site is under threat, and there are technical users who might have valuable input to staff or other users but for the love of god, if that isn't you please don't act as it is and spew bad advice that puts other users at risk.
EDIT:
@Avenue , you should probably change your password
