What do people here think of the ending?

Are the first three games worth playing through? I enjoyed games like Ace Attorney and Hotel Dusk and am looking for more like those from that era. I don't particularly like overt supernatural elements in these kinds of games and prefer stories to be grounded in reality, but if the drama is compelling enough I can overlook it. It seems like the anime version of Saw, not in a bad way either.

I'd recommend the first one at least to give it a try. Also, if you haven't tried it try Nonary Games, first one is 999Doors.

If you think of it was the follow-up to Danganronpa 2, it's a really shitty ending that leaves a lot of questions. Like how did the world come back from the Ultimate Despair or whatever the fuck it's called? Is this a future where consensual euthanasia is not only legalized around the world but used as a marketing plow for a reality TV show? Are the deaths permanent if so? If they are, do the families know that their kids practically signed up for Heaven's Gate 2: Electric Boogaloo? I'm looking way too into this for a stupid visual novel about highschoolers killing each other.

I will say that it essentially being a joke about how insane Danganronpa fans IRL are is really funny though.

V3 is the 53rd season/entry of such media.

I liked it in telling the fans to go fuck themselves in writing their shitty OC copies of the story. Yeah it's usually shit when other franchise do it, but Danganronpa was always meta and the story is just the fucking same every game. Better to end it on a high note than turn into a shitshow like FNAF became.

I posted about it in the genshin thread since it's very clearly inspired by ZZZ and aimed for the same crowd (stylish 3 person action combat).

If you like the death game part of danganronpa then it's clearly trying to be that but in a much crazier scale.

The protagonist had his memory erased and was brainwashed for 2 years. In this time the villain named zero took control of all Neo Tokyo and it's 23 cities and created an artificial city 24 to keep you locked. A team of rebels saved you and your childhood friends say you used to be good at XB.

Zero appears and explains he's so invincible he's [bored] and needs to play games to contain his [boredom] (get used to hearing that) and people only play for real when they're about to die. He has satelite lasers and wants to force everyone to play his game, then he kills the MC friends to not "distract" him. The MC snaps and challenges him to XB which is... extreme baseball.



Turns out this world conflicts are decided by anime baseball matches and "tribes" are baseball teams. Zero says that if you defeat him he'll free you but if you lose you must enter his battle royale against the "Numbers" who are exceptional individuals. This part of the game is most like danganronpa since it's just you picking the right answer to contradict your enemy's taunts, while the baseball is all cutscenes. Since the game doesn't end, it should be obvious Zero stomps your team.

The first baseball is scripted but the second you actually has you use "evidence" to counter your opponent arguments.



The real game starts when Zero talks through a cute white mascot (not!monokuma) you drop into a new city and one of the Numbers, Ichinose, who controls the city. Zero setups a game in this city where people are divided into employees, director and president, and the president can kill anyone but only the director can talk to the president. The director is ichinose and abuses his power but the president is a machine and they must find a way to make the president take their side over ichinose, so we go through multiple dungeons searching stuff.

It's still an action rpg foremost so if you hate the combat you will not enjoy this, but it does have the danganronpa style, zanyness and soundtrack. The card system is also terribly unbalanced (i got a limtied gacha card that is just useless). I'm only playing for 10~ hour but had fun so far.

Note that the game released with extremely negative reception due to it's terrible gacha rates and lack of currency. The devs announced they will be improving the rates next week and refunding all the currency spent on gacha rolls so this is great anyone who starts now. If this strategy doesn't pay off the game will probably flop and end service.

Kind of a shame, since you can do absolutely fantastic meta narrative on Gacha games in both narrative and gameplay.

I mean, i did say they're improving rates and refunding all currency spent on rolls in the final paragraph. It's a desperation move that "rewards" whales the most since anything they spend on rolls they will get back for "free" in two days. Even if you're beginner, you can spend the 30 freebie rolls and get them back so it's a big incentive to start right now.

The way the ultimate and card system works is super broken and desperately needs a rework because eveveryone is using low rarity cards over the limited ones (i got a 5* gacha card that is godawful). But if ZZZ can rework their ultimate system it's not impossible.

The thing is, tribe 9 is japanese and japanese players are not fans of mihoyo 0.6% rates, only chinese gachas have them (they're improving to 2%). The game is also too japanese for chinese players, directly competes with ZZZ and has an 18+ age rating, all severely limiting it's audience.

The crowd also isn't there. Your "modern teen" danganronpa fan probably didn't even play the game or only watched a LP, they're not going to play a gacha action rpg. We'll see if the ship sinks or manages to pull itself back.

A bad initial release is absolutely deadly for a gacha game. The chances it will survive are miniscule. It's not like normal games that players cope things will be fixed, once you expose how much little shit you give it's pretty much over since who the fuck would give you money when they know they are likely to be fucked in a more appropriate time?

I watched Snowbreak come back from the deathbed so it's not impossible, but that had a much lower budget, craves a unique shooter gacha niche and the devs completely sold out their dignity.

Tribe nine doesn't have those benefits so it needs obscene word of mouth to bring it back and it has other issues beyond gacha and stingyness, but as you know, you gotta have hope...
