I played that one for a little while. I would've been a lot better as a single player game.
That's true for 99% of gachas. I've seen cope that the game wasn't greedy enough, but if I remember correctly it got into shit because it was overly greedy at the start and made horrible impression.

We need a lolcow thread fot the Danganronpa fandom lol

Admitedly some of them are really dedicated and put out effort in what they make.

But the tumblr and reddit fans...

EDIT: Just realized there already was a thread for this.

Also, Mahiru is best girl.

Good news for you, there is already one!

Finished V3 just 10 mins ago and I have no idea what I am feeling right now. Guess I need a moment to figure out my thoughts.

What do people here think of the ending?
I'm probably in a minority here but I fucking loved the endgame of v3. More stories ought to go just full insane like that.

At the same time, I'm not really bothered by the implication that DR1 and 2 were just in-universe fiction. Because when you think about it... well.... being fiction in our world does not at all suspend our attachment to stories and characters, why the hell should them being fiction in someone else's world affect us either? If you must get metaphysical, there's probably some universe somewhere where DR1 and 2 were "real" so it's ultimately not a big deal.

Hard agree, that was my takeaway as well. I remember at the first being really conflicted about the end of the game and not liking it, but after a week or so of savoring it, it has become my favorite finale of the series by far.
The theme also came along perfectly, the whole lie-truth dicothomy. The main idea imo was that fiction can become reality through having an effect on and this changing real people. It's the most consistent in having a coherent theme throughout the games by far imo.
Unrelated but also best cast imo.

Also agree, the series played with meta enough so it doesn't really hurts the enjoyment from previous games or shits on their concept, especially as the fanbase pretty much justifies V3 in having sick sick people put their own OC in a death game to feel validated.

Reposting from the Danganronpa Fandom thread because I accidentally posted it there.

"Danganronpa 2x2" was announced on the Nintendo Direct earlier today. It's a remake/remaster of Danganronpa 2 with some additional content. It includes an alternate scenario with different victims and culprits.

I'm assuming this new scenario is about as long as the main game, given the "2x2" name.

I wonder how the new scenario is gonna be unlocked, as well as how early into the game is it gonna start, probably by either picking cleaning duty yourself on chapter 1 or doing something with the door to the academy seeing that everybody who'd play it already knows about the twist of everything being a simulation. Hopefully the murder in the new chapter 3 won't be as retarded as in all the other chapter 3s

Looks like they redrew all the character sprites as well, which include some minor redesigns. Nagito had the design on his shirt changed, while Mahiru had her eye color change and her freckles removed. 0/10 game. no freckles, no buy

I would have thought they would do something like this in Trigger Happy Havoc first. There is cut content for other paths in it.
There's also already an alternate scenario, there was the novel about Junko's sister in THH.

I guess this is because in the sequel anime, the entire DR2 cast ends up living so it doesn't matter what happened in the simulation?

Pretty likely rather than having a non canon ending. The main question is if it will work expecting the player to know/remember the story.

Though at that point just make a new game.

They're probably playing around with the fact that DR2 is a simulation in order to change shit which I think is a neat concept. Kodaka is unforutunately not writing this (iirc they got the guy who did the Conspiracy and Romance Routes from Kodaka's massive other project The Hundred Line) but he is heavily supervising the project. For those who haven't played The Hundred Line those routes are....alright. They needed more time to develop (mainly Conspiracy route) but they aren't complete shit like some other routes from the game.

I'm not particularly sure if I really trust anybody other than Kodaka to write Komaeda but maybe they have a plan for that. I think the best approach to tackle something like this is to make it a commentary on remakes in the same way DRV3 was a commentary on endless sequels, but I'm not sure if that point would really stand if you had to buy a remake in the first place.

Also the animated sprites look ugly as shit I hope there's an option to turn that off.

Get ready for a whole new generation of Komaeda kinnies on X and Tiktok instead of Tumblr!

Honestly besides my favorite Danganronpa game getting remade in the DRV3 style being pretty cool I'm kind of interested in how the "alternative" path will be handled, as in, how far into the story will the original story split off from the new one and how? I can't imagine it happening that far into the story... And as other people here have already said it definitively is tied to the whole simulation stuff somehow.

Also, 2x2 obviously stands for 4 as well but if we're going with DRV3 logic it could also stand for 212... I kind of really hope it doesn't

Anyways bring back best girl's freckles

I actually gave the first one a proper shot and really enjoyed it. Immediately romanced my favorite characters as much as possible- and then they died early on. Cause it's the same results every time. Same results, same victims, same order. How does this IP have any replayability? There's a correct way to play it. You can't even gimp yourself with inferior choices.
