One thing I don't understand about Cool Cat...

Why hasn't AOL Time Warner sued Derek yet? I mean in the 60s, one of the last Looney Tunes characters created was named Cool Cat. I mean, yeah, he sucked, and felt like a lame attempt to recreate Bugs Bunny in the 60s, but he still exists and I assume Warner owns the trademark on the character, right?

Or did this ever come up before and did Derek find a way to get around it?

There's a lot of reasons they probably won't sue: the character hasn't been used in forever, Derek's character is very different, the name "cool cat" is just generic 60's slang, Derek doesn't have any money, they would look like assholes.

It's just not worth it to them, if they even noticed at all.

I don't know how to embed or screenshot, but here are some recent tweets from DD, who may be on television soon! https://twitter.com/CoolCatlovesyou

- We're going to a Shark Tank audition today to get Cool Cat on the TV Show, so say a prayer and wish us the best

- Wearing a COOL CAT Shirt at the @ABCSharkTank Las Vegas open call. Hundreds of people are here, so hopefully will have a great update later. Keep wishing us blessings, and Cool Cat Loves You! :)

- And when I say hundreds of people are here at the Shark Tank audition, I'm not joking...

- Shark Tank Update - It went Great and the Casting guy kept saying, "This is cool. This is cool." It'll take 4 to 6 weeks to learn the outcome, and I'll let you know when I get the call. :)

They're not really the same character and any trademark on the original character's name would have expired from non-use.
Even if they had a case it:
1) costs a lot to sue paticlaurly when its a nut who will , likely represent himself.
2) it can be bad press really quick "Multinational sues the nice man who make anti-bullying movies" is not a good headline

"Cool Cat" in and of itself is about the least creative name you could hope for. Literally anyone over 10 could come up with it.

If you ask me, the "Dirty Dog" character he announced in his 420 teaser only sounded slightly more original.

Christ, that's real? He really is lacking imagination.

I'm beginning to think "Trolly the Trout" isn't even his property now. It's just far too creative a name to come from Daddy Derek.

I'm not sure if this has already been posted, but according to Derek, this new villain is supposed to be the creation of Butch the Bully.

"Dirty Dog" in a children's franchise is... unfortunate.

I hope he makes an expanded Derek-verse, honestly. We can work in his Stripper Story too. "Steven the Stripper", Daddy Derek's old mentor (who taught him everything he knew) comes back to give Cool Cat sagely advice "The only way to calm a Dirty Dog, Cool Cat, is to present pussy. You've got it covered."

That would actually make a lot of sense considering Derek.

Cassandra Lee Morris (Morgana in Persona 5) takes a HILARIOUS shit on Cool Cat here, in character as Morgana:
