It's a Kmart in late 70s/early 80s decor style, which was universally shitcanned from the late 80s to 1995 or so. I remember my hometown Kmart looking like that.

The "document" is actually an old logo (too small to see which, my guess is that it's the kids clothing department and the "French Toast" clothing logo tho, and Kmart used logos as wall decor for years), the "book" is an air vent.

edit: Could also be a Best department store. And Target looked VERY similar inside to Best and Kmart, but did not use logos as decor and rarely had old enough buildings to use wall-mounted air vents (this could have been a Kmart that opened in a former Woolco department store, many did in the 80s), and only Kmart consistently stacked excess merchandise on top of shelves like that, Best did depending on how much excess they had.

It looks so much like an old Canadian Tire but the K-Mart thing might be the more accurate guess becuase I don't knowmif Canadian Tire exsists outside Canada and if it did it sure wasn't there in the 90's.
I can't make a guess about what it is becuase the only department stores we have are Wal-Mart, Zellers(RIP) Sears, the Bay and a Macy's if you go to Toronto.

i think it may be an ames or a bradlees or a caldor. however caldor and bradlees' color scheme was in the brown/orange range.

Caldor was the worst department store around here. Kmart has now taken it's place. Looks like that could be a Kmart.

And moar Kmart evidence: When I was about 6 or 7, my local Kmart had a Batman promo in the toy department, the decor was the same except for red and white upper wall designs with all of the logos in white, and there was a pic of me in my parents' photo album with "Batman". If I had access to that album (it's in South Carolina and I'm in Oregon), I'd scan it and paste trollface or the LOL face over mine to compare interior decor.

Staying on the topic of equines, when I play Red Dead Redemption whenever I go to the area that's in Mexico I always switch my horse with a donkey/burro.
