Just found out about how one Korean animator actively predicted political correctness in video gaming. The video in question was over three years old, and so far it’s predicted what most people in this thread have long talked about.
This shits from 2018, this shit was still happening in 2018. This video" predicted" nothing but it is a really funny parody of how some big corporations have been thinking the last 7 or 8 years now.
This video apperently only recently went viral on youtube but it hasn't shown up in my reccomended and instead it's just reaction or lengthy ass commentary videos on it talking about how it predicted things. Sure, it wasn't as deeply entrenched as it is now but we also weren't in lockdown 3 years ago. I'd really like to actually have a link to the source video but literally nobody reposting it or commenting on how "prophetic" it is actually links to the creator and just goes "ah yes a korean animator made this funny prophetic animation".Shit pisses me right the hell off! The ONE time Youtube's algorithm doesn't reccomend my ass a popular thing it's when it's something I actually want to watch and show friends. I don't want to watch or be reccomended minutes to a whole hour video essays on this fucking short funny thing making fun of gaming companies.
Isn't that the big problem with consoles these days, and one of the reasons why indie releases on PC are flourishing even if they don't rake in the same millions of dollars?
With home consoles their marketing sounds like Jeremy Clarkson yelling "POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER" so everybody is trying their hardest to squeeze out as many polygons out of them as they can, which bloats development budgets and times. Add to it the verification process necessary to release on a console, and product variety suffers. Meanwhile, development houses focusing on less graphically intensive games have been having surprising successes these past few years.
that's what a lot of people have been pointing out after sony revealed their "only blockbusters" policy, topping it off with the closure of japan studio.
playstation, for the longest time, ran with "sum larger than it's parts". yes, japan studio games weren't system sellers, but they were also idea incubators, which means only looking at MUH SALES is retarded. the other thing is no one plays 1 game ever (unless it's some fifa-fag), you buy your console for a number of games, if everything's multiplat with some movie games of questionable quality sprinkled in, why would you wanna buy a playstation (and that's ignoring the online fee for the sake of the argument)? so even if the game individually underperformed and was a financial loss, it still added to the platform as a whole. switching from "something for everyone" to censored AAA shit for retarded consoomers of course only works for retarded consoomers in the long run, and requires them having the disposable money for it, which with the way the market is going and the inevitable correction coming means that they most likely won't have that anymore.

I dunno considering what's come out since then, it's pretty clear that they're allowing multiple genres to be considered AAA and they're not just doing Uncharted Clones. Ratchet and Clank sold around a million and Returnal did half of that. And that still puts both games well over Gravity Rush 2, which was pretty much the last game that was heavily promoted from them.
And honestly as someone who's played nearly all the shit that Japan Studio put out, the most refined was Astrobot. As far as having everything work properly in the game itself and not having weird bullshit that hampered stuff. So it's like it was probably going to happen sooner or later. There's having ideas and then there's knowing how to properly implement them into games which are two different things. Even Nintendo let studios who did Mario and Luigi RPGs die because they weren't cutting it.
Like Astrobot mechanically works fine and if it's the same people who made the original wanting to make more games like that, I could see them surpassing shit like Ape Escape.
Pretty much since Japan Studio's inception they were deemed a joke because their games couldn't match up to Nintendo's own games. So it seems only in post mortem did people start to give a shit. Hell Little Big Planet is still looked down upon and the studio who made that is still around.
Far left (and I will keep adding that "Far". Left wingers who haven't lost our fucking basic functions recognize how not only crazy but damaging this shit is) SJW garbage wouldn't even get out of the gate if someone out there didn't, for whatever reason unknown to us sane mortals, sense that there was money to be made off of it.

I've looked up, in order to check in case I could be wrong, the amount of japanese "Playstation exclusives" in 2021 and what edge the ecosystem could have for the market but it just confirms how bad the situation is for SIE in that field and it's certainly only to get worse next year.

The Switch also looks like it's working with a lot of long-running franchises with loyal fanbases. I know at handful of people who bought a Switch just to play Monster Hunter Rise and/or Breath of the Wild.

Monster Hunter fandom goes wherever there's a new game. It's worked like that since Tri. Kiseki not so much since the players on switch are a very distant third between Playstation and PC. Tails of and Kingdom hearts don't look like future installments are on the thing at all.
The List of PS5 games is more than what the PS4 and PS3 had at their same point in time in their lifecycle. The only Playstation system that had more was the PS2. The PS3 had Folklore for a long ass time since it came out in 2007 and Demon's Souls came two years later. You had to deal with Disgaea 3 being ass as the only other alternative with Valkyria Chronicles coming later in the year in 2008. PS2's first big RPG was Final Fantasy X and prior to that it was Dark Cloud which many didn't like. The best RPG for the PS2 was Tales of Eternia until FFX which was a PS1 game.
So if people are thinking the PS5 has a bad lineup, it's predecessors had it much worse. It having a Souls game at launch as well as a few actually decent JRPGs puts it above previous systems already. Especially since it's not even a year old.
In a year or two it's probably going to look very different since the Sony anime dealings will have an effect on the PS5.
PS5 sales are higher than PS4 sales at the same point in time. It's already got more RPGs than either the PS4 and PS3 had in the same point in time as well(which is really the only genre I personally care about, PS3 was dark fucking times with Star Ocean, Trinity Universe and White Knight Chronicles and only picked up towards the end with Tales of games getting released). Sony fired a bunch of people from Crunchyroll and it's rumored that they'll be introducing a new tier of playstation+ that gives you anime series as well as games. They're now talking about major changes to integrate anime into a 5th pillar or something at sony. For people very adamant about doing piracy, that's why merch exists since nobody wants to willingly buy knockoff merch. Merch rights make up a big part of their distribution agreements. It's being placed in a very similar situation to how they have merch rights to Spiderman.
Ratchet sold a million which they said was well beyond their expectations. Supposedly the number Ratchet needed to hit was 250,000 units sold. So it did 4 times the expected sales.
But yeah it's not exactly looking like they're going further into neo-liberal hell and they're going to be generally banking on anime and Game IP creation because many of the Chinese Mobile games that sony has backed may be getting tie-ins with other media. They're not doing region specific media, which was why Crunchyroll has been revamped in all territories it's their unified platform. Supposedly once it's done all the content on there will be universal.
Kenichiro Yoshida basically wants to turn the whole company into something that rivals Disney but with anime and games. Them moving shit to western countries has zero bearing on this because they want worldwide distribution so everyone will be getting the same media. Jim Ryan is a stooge and a yes man who does the bidding for the Japanese parent company.
I don't know but they're already promising physical releases nitche shit for both games an anime. So I really can't agree that things have gotten worse.
Nice to see MLB: The Show 21 getting the same kind of success that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart received. As sports games are concerned, MLB: The Show’s series is still a great series to relax and play to.
I don’t think it has received the same backlash that NBA 2K, FIFA and Madden received, even with their own version of microtransactions.

While Diamond Dynasty is pretty gay and there's a lot of focus on it every year, what puts The Show above the rest is that it actually feels good to play without gamifying the sport too much and there's still a lot of meat to the Road to the Show and Franchise modes.
MyPlayer and Franchise on all of the other sports titles are as bare bones as it gets and they get little to no love year in and year out as long as their cards are making bank.
I just hate the way sports games play nowadays for the most part, outside of maybe NHL and Konami's baseball game. 2K is all about cheesing player animations, FIFA is too arcadey, and Madden is fucking weightless and atrocious. I swear, playing defense on Madden has been ass for two generations and hasn't legit been fun since PS2. It's always felt largely unresponsive to me since 360/PS3 days.
It was also mentioned that TLOU2 was a big hit last year, but in this case, what would Sony define as "a big hit" these days, given how they haven't said anything about the sales, aside from the "FOUR MILLION COPIES SOLD" deal.

I dunno, but considering that Naughty Dog is working on a multiplayer game and everything else Sony is putting out is not even close to TLOU in terms of gameplay, it certainly wasn't worth banking all that much on.
Like we're not even getting The Last of Kart or any such spinoff or extra DLC like the original.
The first game is the one getting an HD remaster but not the second, this is also the second time the first game got an HD remaster because it came out right at the first year the PS4 was out. But Sony is also now bringing Twisted Metal back so we're not even just sticking to third person games involving people. We're now throwing cars into the mix because GT is also coming back too.
Honestly since everything is getting a TV show, Gran Turismo is the one I think would benefit from a Top gear-esque show.
How are they going to do the part of Gran Turismo where the protagonist owns a car dealership worth of rare and classic cars after he wins the same tournament for the 500th time? Will Jay Leno be the final boss and the MC takes his car when he wins, just like in Gran Turismo 4?

It's the only way to make a show about cars interesting.
The creator of GT is a big car fag himself, so a show featuring nothing but test driving rare cars would be a perfect fit.
Supposedly the PS5 version of GT is going to be the new entry point in the series. So they may scale back a lot of the bullshit that plagued earlier games.

In addition, the Forza games also had some Top Gear crossovers too, including the Top Gear track in Forza Motorsports 7, and the Top Gear campaign in Forza Horizon 4.
Alright here's a question, why the fuck did people lose their shit over the AMOGUS reference in Neo The World Ends With You, but not the fucking Chevy Chase reference in the Gay Bongland Ace Attorney Collection?
That was far more egregious because he wasn't even alive yet when the game took place. He wasn't even a Dr. Who so time travel is fully out of the question.
My personal opinion is that nobody knows who Chevy Chase is because he hasn't had a good movie in 30+ years, but they know Among Us so that got the bigger hate erection.
