It's expected that situation to happen more often in the future because of SIE's self-sabotage (and with little to no Playstation games on the horizon), clearing the big N of any decent competition

Nintendo merged all their shit together. It's like no fucking shit
And SIE has really made no self sabotaging moves, they're still shipping out hardware to the tune of millions. Unless people are bitching about California, but those people are retarded it's Austin which is the new hot boil of festering libtards in tech. Tales of Arise is coming in like a month so there's no real lack of games despite many still being affected due to covid delays. The one thing that Sony hasn't had is a lack of software. The Switch has gone through dry spells that's affected all nintendo consoles since the late era of the n64.
There's also the fact that Sony itself now has a major controlling hand in anime in general and according to the CEO of Sony itself, Yoshida wants to tie anime and videogames together.
Yoshida may want to replace the heads of the other branches whenever this new phase starts because it sounds like there's going to be a major shift in the company since they now have all these new assets. They could probably make their own guitar hero with all the anime music rights they own and have enough to release bi-yearly DLC until 2040.
