Thought I’d put this in the Sonic Movie thread, but this is (technically) Culture War related. If anything, this will pave the way for more advanced video game movies to be a near fixture, since remakes and demakes of established works and superhero movies are not cutting it.

Also, the director of the sequel is interested in making a Super Smash Bros. movie:
“Nothing would make me happier than to just throw all the characters into a battle royale and do a big Smash Bros. thing. That would probably require some work from the lawyers before that could happen. Getting Mario and Sonic in the ring, I mean everyone would be kinda dying for that, right? That’s just classic.”

Considering that we have a Mario Bros animated movie that will be coming soon, I’m not so sure we can take this slightly. This could happen in our lifetimes.
 
All of these censorship, localisation or the overall context arguments for the last nearly or more than hundred pages is about making/forcing changes to suit current days social standard and companies following ESG. Even if the thing is minor, doesn't affect gameplay at all, how far will they go in the future.

Currently with Japanese game character creation. They don't use standard Male and Female anymore, they use Type 1 or 2 instead.
Globohomo social standard, not real world and real people social standard. That's why Lady's buttcrack was censored("what if some guy looks at it!?") but troon-monster getting naked in TLoU2 was ok("YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THIS!"). These things gives us a glimpse of their dream world that they are trying to force into existence.

And the Type 1 and 2 thing in Elden Ring made me very confused, I just mashed through character creation, never cared about that stuff and I was a bit drunk, then when I got to Round Table and found the mirror... I thought I had found a bug, why is my character... Anyway, I'm playing as anime Glenn Danzig it seems. Buff body, stern looking lady head.

Nobody's brought up that Eggman is still canonically a male feminist in all modern representations of sonic including both new movies.

I'll wait for a pirated blu-ray rip. It isn't worth going to the theater anymore to pay for overpriced concessions. I haven't felt the need to go to a movie theater since about 2007 when I realized having a big enough screen and a decent enough sound system is just as good.
 
The people who tried to grief others by saying "Shadow is going to show up in the post credits" get equally upset if you mention Princess Sally.

I mean, where else would they go? The first movie is basically a very loose reimagining of Sonic 1. The second movie is the same for Sonic 3 (and Knuckles). After that, we didn't really get any primary characters introduced until Shadow. They're less following the games and more introducing the characters in the order the games did, so Shadow is next. I guess maybe E-102 and Big, but "hey guys Big the Cat is gonna be in the next movie" would be a pretty shitty reveal.

Though personally I would have likes to see a movie featuring the Chaotix crew. Those guys never get any love.

The gist of the story is that these lines (possibly) in particular:

This is probably one of the most egregious cases since they straight up admitted to it, no doubt some people will still defend it though.

Bruh, this is the original English translation that was released with the game back in 2000. And TBH, it's actually pretty damn impressive what Klay was able to do. I personally think it's actually damn good, and it fits the tone of the game perfectly.
“I’m sure there were a ton of various references we threw in the text as well, but I’ve forgotten them all haha,” Vorlick stated, prompting Nguyen to compare how a quote from Gilder “about women being like sunsets” was originally “about doing the things that have never been done before.” Laughing, Vorlick stated, “That was Chris. I shook my head when he came up with that line haha,” but ultimately agreed with Nguyen’s take that the changed line “totally fits the character.”
Unironically based.
“Oh! I was also the one that got them to add the press-start-to-skip-animation for spells and stuff haha”.

There are also little issues in translation with a line’s size. With Panzer [Dragoon] especially, I would only have one line of 27 characters, and it was time driven stuff.”

I think y'all are making much ado about nothing. Back in those days, people were just grateful to have an RPG localization with natural English. It seemed the translators had a short window of time to make a translation that read well, and they had to contend with ESRB ratings nonsense to boot. The English translation turned out fine for its time. Besides, games aren't exactly great literature. As long as it's playable, and as long as they keep SJW nonsense out of the script, I'm fine.

Now, if they remake it, and someone like, say, Sam Maggs were writing the script, THAT'S when my Spidey sense would start to tingle.
 
The real reason they put memes into anime localizations is so when weebs cringe they finally understand how normal people react to anime.

I think y'all are making much ado about nothing. Back in those days, people were just grateful to have an RPG localization with natural English. The English translation turned out fine for its time. Besides, games aren't exactly great literature. As long as it's playable, and as long as they keep SJW nonsense out of the script, I'm fine.

Just want to point out a few things.

Translators working closely with the original writers doesn't always mean that the script will be as thorough as it can be, it's entirely possible for them to sneak changes by without approval if they're small enough, take Nintendo Treehouse for example removing an entire conversation from a support scene for the sake of making a shitty joke about silent assassins or changing lines of dialogue into Tumblr memes that died within about a week of the game's release. That's not to say that's what happened here of course, I just want to point out that it can happen.

Secondly, I don't necessarily agree that lines should be changed into something slightly different just to fit someone's interpretation of a character, I'd rather it be kept as accurate to the original script as possible without sacrificing any of the original context. If it needs to be changed for the sake of a culture clash sure, but I think it needs to be made clear what the original line was to see if it actually fits.

Thirdly, I think it's fair to still criticize the general attitude towards these translations while still acknowledging the restrictions they had at the time, the wording in the interview didn't evoke a very good image and is endemic of the attitude displayed for a few other products as well.

Lastly, the only thing Sam Maggs should write on is toilet paper because that's about as much value any of her "literature" has to anyone.

I think that's why this one feels less cut and dry. Apparently the tribal people you meet spoke in a mix of hiragana and katakana (implying poor grasp of the language). And using outright wrong words or "caveman speak" may have befallen the ESRB (who somehow gave Vigoro's sexual assault a pass once they put a shirt on him??) The annoyance is that allowing slight deviation for it to flow naturally eventually becomes the norm, and then slight deviations happen again and again until you're where we are now. "Sure, make that change if you think it'll help sales."
