I think the Leena stuff was always awkwardly worded. I mean they are are clearly rural but they're also not in a place like Alabama. Like for example islanders wouldn't use that phrase despite also being a rural community.

What triggers Sony's censorship policy has pretty much been depictions of children for the majority. You even had the recent Martha is Dead scene cause a stir where you're taking a kid's face and wearing it. So they made that scene non-interactive since it was just a QTE over a movie to begin with, and gave you an option to skip it.

Because if we accept any censorship for things we dislike, it eventually gets worse, and thus affects things we like being changed. It's not really a slippery slope, it's just that now CERO is cracking down on depictions of sex more, just like they've been doing with violence for decades. Places like China are far more heavy handed with their content regulation.

Every single japanese release of Resident Evil since the series started has had stuff removed. But each of the removals has been surface level and not important to the gameplay at all. The series has never suffered because of the censorship. And this is still less of a power move than it was when these S&P Rating organizations were first established starting in the 90's.

Japan really wanted to clean up it's act years before the Olympics happened there. So this has already been going on for a long time.

That's always the same argument whenever someone defends censorship: If it's so trivial why does it need to be changed then?
I don't approve CERO's way of handling things in regard to extreme graphic violence (which begs the question why a Z/18+ rating continues to be a thing in spite of all the commercial restrictions) but that doesn't excuse and justify localization hijinks & imposed "global standards" (by people who hates Japan and its culture) in japanese games from this whatabout-ism of yours.

I ended up pre-ordering from the JP eshop the remake of Kiki Kaikai (Rocky & Pocky Reshrined for the english speakers) because of reports of visual censorship in the western version with the goddess character. Sure it costed me a bit more because nippon MSRP is usually higher than the european one, but it's more worth it to my hard-working money and I do stand by my principles in regard to artistic/creative works (regardless if said principles would put me in a good or bad light, and even if I end up defending woke fags).

Even if the thing is minor, doesn't affect gameplay at all, how far will they go in the future.

Since with current days internet, people can easily find the thing they want. Devolver doesn't have much of a chance of being turned on, they're still a smaller company. People may know some of the titles they publish, but they themselves are not a well known brand. They lack any type of serious clout and never built any up, which may have been why they decided to go public in the first place. Hell if anything their final fate may just be to be bought up by THQ.

In comparison companies like Limited Run are more widely known since they themselves have helped some of Devolvers own titles get published. They have a much broader reach.

The thing that annoys me about these outraged "fans" is that they never do any research to fully investigate these claims. There's an option to choose the original pixel art that keeps the previous design. The costume change is only in the remastered artwork option. No one is taking their loli panties away, unless they really wanted them in HD.
