Wait, the US actually censored that episode? PBS actually censored it? I mean I knew China and such probably did, but that's a new one to me. I never watched the episode, but I think it was dumb that they celebrated it because it's not exactly brave these days. Plus I don't like the idea of any sexuality or whatever being introduced to children, but it was a marriage. There's no sex involved in marriage.
I won't exactly celebrate it being censored, but I will laugh. The fact is they do everything they can to shut down dialogue they don't like - even going so far as to hassle payment processors to deny financing - and when it happens to them they lack the self awareness to realize it's bad for everyone, they just think that they've been wronged. When you have people like that you can't exactly go easy on them because they never learn, they can't hope to get better and they're always gonna be stuck in that particular pit. OAG is the same bullshit, he didn't try to learn at all and was just a Newtonian reaction to the entire thing.
For example look at how the localizers freaked the fuck out when there was a literal translation option for River City Girls. They didn't think that people wanted it, they saw it as an attack on their person. They don't realize that both can exist and I doubt they'll ever accept the possibility either. That's why I take a "burn it all down" attitude these days. It's not like I want the fundies in charge again - although 4Kids were very creative in how they did their magic - but honestly I love seeing these self righteous pricks take a hit, like I used to with the fundies. They both basically are fundamentalists anyways.
At some point I'd like to think things can go back to how they were and people be sensible... yet I'm not exactly gonna hold my breath either. I will go golfing, though.
