There's nothing else that's appealing or the main draw. Because you have every single event based around a musical number that's supposed to take place. So the pacing is going to roughly be the same. They even both cut corners when it comes to animation.

IMO stuff isn't exactly getting worse when it's coming to quality, stuff relating to flaws may be more noticeable than it was because you have more people looking at it and something becoming widely known. But it's always kinda been there, we're not really entering some unknown territory.

I went to a super conservative religious college and even that place wasn't as bad as modern corporate cultist behavior I see now. Even though the modern left is the very antithesis of Christian that place still welcomed a college democrats club while I got ostracized and a concerned talking to when people found out I went to a Christian school at my last job.

So yeah, this isn't the same.

I've seen Weibo chats where they mock the shit out of us for consuming this shit and I think once I saw a string of convos where they laughed at game developers attempts to pander to them while including the woke stuff; "It's like they don't even know our market!". Even Taiwan laughed at us. It's why Finn took a backseat in the new trilogy when they realized, "Oh shit, China hates black people." Their lack of understand led to the disastrous Mulan live action remake. Plus anything pro-lgbt was taken out, it's why they had that shit so easy to edit out for the Chinese release which made it pretty easy to ignore on our end. Awkward romances are the worst and it's always awkward because it's never organic with these people, it's forced.

So now that we don't have China to tone that shit down for, expect it to be ramped up. Especially with the nonsense TakeTwo and Microsoft have been doing. China still wanted pretty protagonists even if the government didn't want sexy. We were never gonna get sexy back with the current crop of development, but at least we could have had pretty or handsome protagonists for the sake of China.

Game developers in China also have Genshin Impact on their hard drive, and don’t care for anything that Steam has to offer. Why still be beholden to Gabe and crew when their money making machine is right in front of them?

Plus with Tencent on their side (for the time being), this is just another unfortunate shrug from us North Americans that have to silently agree with them on not wanting censorship in our games, but still have to suck up to them in order to bring awareness to their country in order to get playtime over there.
