And that's starting to get pozzed to appease ESG scores and plus artists are just faggots like that.
Every single game company does ESG stuff. Nintendo is doing funding for movies, TV, and parks they're going to need an ESG score for money as well. Microsoft always promotes it's diversity on the parent company home page and takes government contracts.

I've been trying to find stuff on par with "The Force is Female" and other similar divisive and provocative stuff. It doesn't seem to be a popular means now. Horizon which has a female lead isn't making a big deal that Aloy is female, they're instead promoting the world and what enemies you can kill. Even both Spiderman films animated and live action seem to shy away from identity politics in marketing. I mean they clearly gave up on feminist Ghostbusters going by the new movie. Afterlife is not the greatest thing, but it's enough to restart the franchise through TV and toys which is what most people remember from the original.

Really the biggest thing in recent memory was TGA's whole diversity thing, but that was just an awards show trying to fill time.

You forgot TakeTwo during that entire fiasco with entire screeds about the importance of diversity; then you had Microsoft with their Windows reveal thing where they tried to describe who they were to blind people or some dumb shit.

Should ESGs get shut down things will get better. Doubt it'll ever happen, though. They try to downplay it like back in the late 90's or straight up make women uglier or mannish instead these days. They know the pendulum is swinging, but still believe the horseshit they try to feed us. Now they just don't tell us there's horseshit in the food because apparently people aren't comfortable knowing that just yet. Everything is getting worse because of globalization. Nothing is unique anymore, everything is the same garbage. You could argue that was always the case in AAA, but time was they focused on off the wall fun and crazy ideas. Now it's all public sensibilities and such nonsense.

Plus some of the crazy bootleg shit out of China was fun. Japan had their own thing that never made sense here. Korea did too. Spain had theirs. Eastern Europe... but it's all just getting to be the same now.

It's not that everything is getting the same, it's just similar things are popping up in more places because more people are being exposed to different genres.

You have places like canada and france making RPGs and weird simulation type games. Where years before they didn't do that.

The indie scene itself wasn't really contained by borders and mostly always existed in online platforms and storefronts. And many times already an indie game gets elevated and becomes a franchise.

I wasn't referring to genres, though, but tone and feel. Each country used to really feel different when I played them, but now they just blend into each other. Everything is becoming sanitized or sterilized by fear of either upsetting some dictatorship or some faggots with first world problems. Cost cutting measures make the former absolutely dreadful because I've noticed a trend with some publishers to make just one version to save money, so we are at the mercy of some dipshit that thinks a towel makes a hat or some fat fuck who gets angry being compared to a beloved children's character. The latter is just a bunch of retards acquiescing to louder ones.

Social media and all its poisons doesn't help any either. We're really heading towards a global uniformity and that depresses the fuck out of me.

Balders Gate 3 is shaping up to have the same level of violence as DOS 1 and 2.

Elden Ring is changing up the Soulsborne combat a bit but it's the same quality as their previous titles

We've already had many indie games attempt ambitious sizes of scope

Games still spread via word of mouth as a primary means of getting around. Honestly it sounds like you're having a very narrow viewpoint. Yes the internet changed things around. You just need to re-find where everything went.

I used to be against censorship but now I think games should be censored more so they stop breeding autistic racist neckbeards.
The less people attracted to video games, the more people forced to go search for a new hobby, which means some might even... go outside.

Brilliant.

Too bad many outdoors activities these days require having an up-to-date coof pass, at least for those who are unfortunate to live in the dystopian countries/states like me

All the vaccine mandates in the states failed/cannot be actually enforced.

That's not what I meant at all, either. I feel you're being obtuse just to be right. Violence is a universal, every culture has it. The only countries I know of that has censored it were Australia, Japan and Germany. Three particular markets that don't really bring much to the table. China has stepped up against it now, though, but they stepped up against all video games thus far so developers may no longer be trying to appease them like Hollywood has failed at.

Sanitized or sterilized meant strictly societal sensibilities -- most often to appease a vocal minority. If you prefer I can use processed instead like "processed foods", where it's all the same flavor of shit and all the nutritional value is stripped from it. If it offends someone or is considered harmful, that takes a hit to the ESG. You can make them colorful, but it can't have any unapproved messages. You can make it big and full of stuff, but it can't have anything that would anger someone. You can't have it be alien either, because that would scare away people who don't understand the culture as opposed to exposing it to them. You can't buck the trend because ESG scares away investors. The entire goal of it is to ensure we all produce the same level of shit, for the assholes running ESG it's purely political and for the corporations it's about maximizing profit. Each nation used to have a cultural export, something unique to it in its media. That's slowly no longer becoming the case.

Game mechanics is genre which I said before I wasn't referring to, your Elden Ring argument holds no weight. Also, 3rd Party isn't indie; Praey for the Gods qualifies because it's like three dudes or something, but BioMutant doesn't. BioMutant got funding from THQ Nordic. That's not indie. I wasn't really referring to indie anyways since I was focused on ESG shit and globalization, besides they're beholden to a different monster such as social media. All it takes is one dumb accusation and they'll try to destroy you for a dopamine hit, that's why so many try to appease those particular rabid individuals. I mean the sound guy got fired from Subnautica because of his politics alone, because they got enraged by it.

It's okay to disagree, you don't care about this shit whereas I do. That's all there is to it.

Can this thread just be renamed to "Debate Marissa Moira Thread" subtitile "and also culture wars general"?
No, because debate implies a back and forth where both sides make valid points, not one person screaming and shitting their pants.

I've been trying to find stuff on par with "The Force is Female" and other similar divisive and provocative stuff. It doesn't seem to be a popular means now. In cases like Ghostbusters and Sonic, businesses are changing course to make crowd pleasers, so yes, there is less wokeshit.

But in cases like Star Wars or Horizon, they gave up virtue signalling because they know they'll get backlash. Instead of pushing ugly women as attractive, they instead present ugly as the default and attempt to deny all other options. Yes, it's difficult to find something as obnoxious as "The Force is Female", but it's also difficult to find a macho action movie or AAA game with a sexy female lead.

....have you seen the other "debate x user" threads?

At least Marissa is just arguing over video games companies and culture and not the ethics of fucking characters from ducktales.

Is it concerning that I ask myself what The Game Awards 2022 is going to do next? The recent award show almost seemed like I was watching an SNL sketch.

It's going to be like the opening ceremony to the Olympics where all 190 individual gender teams come out with their flags waving.

Even with Genshin Impact winning again? How will the Chinese respond then?
By cheating, just like they do with the regular Olympics.
