Youtube keeps flailing around and making changes people hate because they don't know how to actually make content people want, film companies keep making garbage remakes of existing IPs where they try to substitute base nostalgia and sickeningly twee "relatable" writing ("Wow, this superhero talks just like me!"), Jeopardy can't pick a fucking host after Alex Trebek died (seriously just pick Ken Jennings or Levar Burton already!), the richest man in the world keeps suggesting idiotic stuff like the Hyperloop for his company to do and his company makes cars that are vastly inferior to other cars, etc. It's a critical mass of inadequate successors to the throne, a failson singularity where every company is now run by the dumbest and least-talented kids of the people who got rich in the Silent Generation, and god damn does it make culture fucking suck.

Steam wasn't always filled with shit. Before Steam Direct it was notoriously difficult to actually get a game on Steam. You had to either be a AAA or luck out. Even Greenlight was criticized at the beginning for being too slow to approve games.

To be fair, while Xerox PARC produced a lot of amazing innovations, a lot of it, like their mouse, looks like a prototype. It would probably have been too expensive to sell many of them and the per unit cost to make the originals would have been astronomical. So Apple and Microsoft were able to free ride on their innovation and skip that step and go straight to the product stage.

This is the problem with this kind of research. Often you end up with something that can't be completely protected by patent and then, having dumped a bunch of your own money into developing a concept, the concept itself can just be ripped off by someone else. Bill Gates did this with CP/M too.

You're going to need to a bit more specific on an actual product campaign then.

Because companies have done stuff like breast cancer awareness for decades and other branding things for different causes that are nothing about enhancing the existing product and are more taking something that exists and putting it on a moral pedestal. Most of these awareness campaigns are brands in themselves that generate money and become less about the issue they started to bring awareness of in the first place.
