Its like a really weird niche "video killed the radio star" phenomenon. People who can't convert their words into screen presence are fucked.

And unfortunately the media empires are prepared for that. So long as Niche makes less money than Waypoint despite not being wokeshit. They are going to have some means of employment with living wages. Looking at Niche's patreon at 60 donators is sad to see.

So, even if these websites were doing just peachy in terms of income, they would still bleed money out of every orifice due to wage floors imposed by unions. No wonder independent content producers are taking off instead.
I always found it bizarre a lot of those places have physical offices (always in expensive coastal cities like NYC) and employ dozens of people given the quality of their work is so trash. Like if I want wokeshit, why wouldn't I just go to ResetEra and pay a troon a hundred bucks for their screed on why we need more black troons in Pokemon? And then they demand a union? I'm pretty sure the only reason they have a union is because the people in charge don't know how to run a business and are in it for the social connections (to get that posh job at The New Yorker or The Atlantic or some other actual journo outlet). It's even dumber than unionizing a McDonalds since even the fry cooks have more skills and are less replaceable than a video game journo since again, just go to ResetEra and wave some Benjamins at the e-begging troons.

Like you'd even need Benjamins. We're talking Johnsons here. Hamiltons. Maybe even a greasy handful of wrinkled up Lincolns.

Servers, media offices, security detail, Vox/Univision/Future inc are media empires that cover more than just games, this is a revenue source so they can do proper takes on things that matter. They are telecommunication giants and want to hold exclusive broadcast rights that little Billy and Niche Gamer will never be able to afford. So it make sense they want someone to negotiate payment and benefits in their behalf instead of spending money and legal time working for it.

Niche Gamer's patreon collapsed after they got caught out for plagarism/copying press releases etc. They used to have a LOT more.

But journos basically are decreasing because of YouTube and Twitch. They're simply no longer useful to companies and nobody cares to read the 1,000th article on why women being sexy is bad or the 10,000,000th article on the legacy of gamer gate. So, they don't generate game sales. They don't influence the industry. The industry is using them less and less as time goes on. They're not producing the clicks they were anymore. Eventually people are going to start asking why do they even continue to exist when ResetEra is basically identical to a games journalist. And people already are.
Not really. These people don't want to remain gamejournos and they certainly don't want to become a Youtuber or a Twitch thot. They end up working in the industry, see Sam Maggs (ME:A, Spider-Man and now Marvel Comics) or her former PC Gamer boss (Mitch Dyer) who works at EA Motive. The woman from FunHaus used to be a gamejourno, now she's a writer at Sony Santa Monica.

Which publication used to have its offices in the building that replaced the Twin Towers? Wasn't it Waypoint?

The article in question

That looks like clickbait.

Japan doesn't operate sales the same way america does, so an article touting the rarity or low supply usually translates into interest according to japanese business practices. This is the same way they promote those 900 dollar anime box sets that they are only printing 200 copies of and always will be sold out entirely. The whole focus of Japanese businesses is to have zero overstock or remaining supply and all sold units must go for maximum MSRP. Sales and discounts are considered a negative thing over there.

For them it's better to sell 200 of something for a grand rather than 90,000 copies of something for 80 bucks each.

Even if this turned out to be true, then why is it that local stores in North America have been sold out of the PS5 for a couple of weeks now?
I've personally contacted stores both in North America and Asia and everything immediately sells out or was already claimed due to being backordered. It's the shipping time from China which has been holding things up from what I gather, they can't arrive fast enough to sate demand and they're not exactly getting daily shipments arriving either. You also have AMD running at full capacity to make enough chips since they're the current favorite for PC and both next gen consoles use Ryzen chips. This has also driven up the price for PC parts as well.

I still don't have a system, which makes me think that the initial April date of when the console will start to be regularly available seem true.

By having offices they appear more real than someone that reaches a far larger audience from his home. And because they're a "real" outlet they end up in newsfeeds. Gamespot, Waypoint and Kotaku shows up in my google news feed from time to time so that's free exposure for their clickbait shit that youtubers don't get.

So between Ryza 2, YS 9, Re:Zero Prophecy of The Throne, Sakuna of Rice and Ruin, Dragon Quest 11 S, and you could probably throw Cold Steel 4 in there too, nothing got touched.

It's not looking like things are getting censored en mass because here we had an onslaught of weeb releases all within a very short time with most being weeks within each other. Also every developer and publisher who got affected by the policy change when it started in 2018, has released a game on PS4, PS5, or both within the last month or so or has at least one game slated to be coming out in Quarter 1 of 2021(including a new EDF spinoff game).

I think censorship fags have been fear mongering for clicks at this point. I'm not seeing the chaos promised and we're heading into year 3 of this policy existing.

I just think people don't like Jim Ryan because of his history, and have been wanting him to fail. I mean I've got a Switch already with 60 games but the portable battery life still sucks just like the vita's did. Really we have not had good portable console battery life since the PSP and original DS. And I know for a fact that everyone who claims to be playing games on the go doesn't actually do it, unless driving around on a rascal scooter counts.

>I didn't see it so it didn't happen: the post

you are aware that the changes at that point were made retroactively or for games still in development, so there was something to compare it to, right? you are aware news like this is bad PR, so it gets put in contracts with an NDA for future developments, right? you are aware it makes no sense to offer 2 different versions even if you're releasing outside playstation, if the contract allows that in the first place, right?

but sure, sony's new policies have zero effects because suddenly all future games don't need more lightbeams... wonder why that is.

Could you kindly fuck off with your constant attempts to defend SIE's crap at monitoring closely japanese game development of third-parties ?

"huuuh guys! There are no games censored even if japanese devs have to report everything in english to the californian overlords who keep watch on what's going during development, meaning japs have no idea what could randomly trigger the sensibilities of poor americans in order to avoid delays ! It's totally okay for us americans to grab control on foreign creative media and screw over its home market !"

I'm holding my dick waiting for this supposed japanese apocalypse and it doesn't seem to be happening. For comparison the Manhattan project got big results only after 2 years.

Also Rice is looking to replace OAG as the boner culture news site, with less nazism links
Always looking for a half-decent games news site that isn't click bait/outrage bait.

Sorry for changing topic, but what happened to Christine Love?

On Discord someone mentioned Ladykiller in a Bind, seemingly unaware of the controversy and nepotism that got that game on Steam and kept it there through various porn purges. Curious, I looked up what the dev (I assume it's a she) has been doing the last 4 years. The answer seems to be fuck all. She tweets a million times a day, but there's nothing of substance there. Her website has screenshots of some pixel art that looks like typical Tumblr trash, but that's from 2019. I don't know if her connections that got her games so much preferential treatment would still work in 2021.

So what do you say in Sony's defense Moira, the fact they abandoned a niche market and lost the support of Japanese devs who now use the Switch.

Article forgot to mention that you can purchase digital titles on Switch from another region very easily, in case a specific game faces licensing issues in your country or was meme'd by the localization company. You just need a working email and set the region place of your choice when creating a new eshop account, and bam already done, no need for additional personal information (such as making up a home address) like I remember on PSN. And games & DLCs bought from a secondary account can be played on your primary account within the same console as well.

Censored Gaming also released a video explaining the notion of ソニーチェック (Sony Check) and why it has gained traction in Japan over the two last years as a way to criticize the current decisions of SIE

However, I don't think Sony honestly cares by losing a lot of support from small/medium-sized japanese studios, the manufacturer company made it clear it wanted all the gibs from the global western market through high-budget AAA games. I also don't believe the Playstation brand will die anytime soon, but it no longer has anything that truly stand out from the xbox at this point. Regardless of someone's personal opinion on pervert games and visual novels, it's stupid to deny their existence even in their own home market for the sake of western political-correctness (which is nothing more than a power grab).

Still, it's funny to see some karma hitting back in various ways such as how there is literally nothing for the japanese PS5 users in the entirety of Q1 2021 (as everything is either a multiplat available on PC/PS4/Switch or cancelled) and the console will face another very long supply shortage due of AMD's issues with their chips.
