Are CRTs based and redpilled?

Turns out it was a Dell Trinitron P990, 19" 1600x1200.
Sony Trinitron tubes can be overclocked up to 254 Hz vertical refresh rate, depending on the resolution. Doesn't seem to affect longevity, from what I've read (no first-hand experience). You can even clock them beyond their nominal horizontal refresh rate (the kHz thing), but that's not recommended, for obvious reasons. There is a software called SAT (for DOS) or WinSAT (for Windows) to achieve that.

Additionally, a lot more can be achieved using interlaced modes, though GPU support for that has been bad in the past 10 years, with only Intel still supporting it via HDMI on current models, and even then it is only available through EDID hackery, if you want to get anything usable out of it.

I have a phillips CRT that I found next to a dumpster but its maybe 60 years old, black and white, and only accepts coaxial. So its useless. I wanted to play minecraft on it but yknow, coax sucks my ASS so I can't :'(
You totally can though, and I’ve done it. HDMI/VGA to RCA or Coax adapters exist for pretty cheap nowadays. The caveat is that old TVs are not monitors, and as such lack the phosphor density to clearly display game text not specifically made with them in mind.

i have a Panasonic TX-21S3TP and i use it to play on my C128 :)
i crank the sharpness down to 25% and it makes the games look really nice

i have tried hooking up my 360 but the image is too big so it gets cut off and in the dev menu i can only change how tall the image is not how wide sadly

Visited my dad last week, and got me another barn-find CRT. Behold the glory of twenty-nine inches:

Burger Time on the left, Triple Action: Cars on the right. I was hoping the picture in Triple Action would be less noisy — seems to be some issue with this particular game cartridge.

EDIT: Ackshually, aren't the buns supposed to be yellow? And some of the cars on the right are close to invisible. Seems like there is no red ray coming from the electron gun (?) Need to investigate this.

oh good a CRT thread. Maybe someone who has experience can help me.

So, my dumbass for some reason, punched my crt one day. Then the image started getting blurry after. I dont know what to do to fix it. If i leave it off for a few days a week or so, and turn it back on, it'll be clear for about 3 days, then start it up again.

Fucking lost it. Last one I was able to get back in 2014 or something 21" 1600x1280 5:4 76hz resolution. Missed out at that time on a hospital grade 21" crt by a couple of days. Freaking thing also had a weird screen tearing problem, like bottom 1/3 of the monitor was always screen tearing while the rest .. no problem. Also a weird looked like, someone put a drop of water on the screen and it streaked down the screen making it look weird. that wont go away. but it is what it is ayy. Dont even know what to do about those 2 things probably big issues never fix.

anyone know how to fix this blurriness issue shit?

Update:

It looks like the red cathode ray gun is indeed working but either worn out, or has some signaling issue. A weak red does show under one certain circumstance: when it is the only color in a larger area, like a textmode banner with a red background. I might have to buy some old CRT regenerator to get it fixed.

That said, I got some additional hardware earlier today — a SCART-to-Cinch/s-Video adapter, an analog VGA-to-Cinch/s-Video converter, and all the required cables — to connect a PC to the TV.

Here, I got nasty flickery patches of blue and green color via s-Video in some signal modes, and a clean b/w image in others. Connecting it directly to the GPU's TV out (s-Video) gives me the b/w image.
RCA cinch worked fine for color, though: a slightly blurry but otherwise issue-free 576i50 output.

I have created a custom 1152p150 resolution for use with Windows that scales well with the whole setup at 200% UI scaling, and is nicely downscaled by the converter.

IMO cut your losses and find a different CRT.

I wonder if the cables or jacks are starting to die

Around 2004 I got a 32 inch CRT that was advertised as XBOX READY. It had a input labelled VPORT, which was sort of AV multi-in for the Xbox that supported component video.

This is what peak perfomance looks like:
