Are CRTs based and redpilled?

IMO, simple things first. Tried jiggling the cable in the connector while looking at the screen? Does it change anything? My bet is on a cold solder joint somewhere in the signal path for red. Not saying that's the only possible problem but it happens often in old devices.
I got some faint red out of it by cranking the saturation up to 100, so the red gun must still have a working connection. I was able to display a blood-red fullscreen picture, but doing so for hours didn't bring any improvements.

I will only investigate this more deeply after my new toy has arrived. Got me a good bargain.

CRTs are awful,
- they make this extremely loud high pitched whine that's audible two streets away.
- the alternating lines makes it look really blurry.
- their "true black" was always just a disgusting gray.

Really happy CRTs died out, you oldfags are just blinded by nostalgia.

I'm honestly thinking of getting one of those hd 16:9 crts to replace my ageing old. 720p TV. Should I go with one of these or is there a flat screen without the "smart" tv cancer?
Sceptre is basically the only company still readily selling dumb modern TVs, but they're not feature rich (no Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, high refresh rate, OLED, etc) and lack in quality. As a result you'd probably be better off with an HD 16:9 CRT.

So they're supposed to be ultra budget tvs? Hmmm maybe a sound bar might fix the audio issues.

Some CRT's are more unique and weird than others, like 19" HP A2088A monochrome monitor with BNC connector. Had to order specialty converter, and even then I can only get it to display anything on my XP laptop for some reason. Looks really good for a monochrome monitor from 1993, but suffers from a ghostly image which I need to look into it someday. Now I can watch Son of the Mask like its a film noir!

Source on that photo of the FW900 and Porsche?

Found a good CRT for the first time. Surprisingly, PS2 games don't look that much better. For PS1 games though the difference is night and day. I was expecting to try out Silent Hill 2 and be like WOW but it just looks... fine? Meanwhile Valkyrie Profile on PS1 looks brilliant
Post photos when you get the chance. What type of CRT did you find?

I miss my CRT, some Siemens monitor I rescued from my old job. Sadly it died at some point.
Wouldn't fit on my desk anymore anyway.
But I got some shitty small CRT TV now as a second TV to play PS2 on, which is nice. Just some old small Grundig TV, forgot the model. Does what it needs to do. As previous posters said, PS2 isn't that much better on CRT, but PS1 games really do feel better than on a modern LCD.

Silent Hill 2 specifically is a 30fps game displayed using two interlaced fields of a single 480p image. It's one of the best cases for using deinterlacing intended for normal TV video. Games that do really well on a CRT that don't look so good elsewhere use field rendering where each frame is output as a single field at 60fps. That plus a lot of games render 512 pixels wide when most ADCs take 720 samples per line -- this is something you can successfully fix using an OSSC or Retrotink 5x/4k/6x.

Try Tekken Tag or MGS2 or Devil May Cry, they have a crispness to them on a CRT that's hard to beat.

Edit: I had some time to think about this and another thing I really like about the 480i systems on CRTs is that the signal is usually higher quality than the display is capable of resolving (often consumer CRTs are mostly 360 TVL or less and the digital video standard is 720 pixels per line) which a lot of effects at the time take advantage of. Take Tales of Symphonia for example: it has a really simple depth of field effect that uses an image distortion -- on a modern display at 480p it just makes parts of the screen look blurry but it comes together really well on a CRT.

Over the years I've opted away from using 480p at all outside of the handful of Wii games that are forced widescreen, all of the 4:3 480i games just come together really well on a CRT.

Just managed to snag a Sony Trinitron PVM-23130QM for pretty cheap, and it's in great condition.

Honestly, this thing is absolutely amazing. I've never seen such colorful and sharp visuals on a CRT before, the picture quality genuinely caught me off guard.

The shadow mask is also something I've never seen before on a CRT. Black levels are deep enough that it reminds me of OLED: blacks are truly black, not dark gray. That combination of vibrant color, sharpness, and contrast makes it feel decades ahead of the average consumer set.

Definitely one of the best pickups I've made in a while. Highly recommended if one of these crosses your path. For the right price of course. I know these things can cost a fortune.

can someone identify what might be wrong with this crt? is it the tube going out? or maybe a capacitor or something dying? it takes it 3 days to warm up from completely cold to start to do this, but .. after knocking it... one day it started to do this. the picture looks blurry when at a distance. heres a video i made. could never find out what was wrong with it.

Suck it, losers, RF is the best way to get an Authentic Image.

btw, I'm selling hand wrapped tinfoil shielded RF cables with pure strain gold plated connectors. $275 a pop, 1' long so the signal doesn't get diluted/inferred. I advice everyone to get in before they're gone.
