It's pretty much undone any good PR the church has done to this point and growing up with four sisters but being told how "special" I was to "hold the priesthood" when I saw them as equals is one big reason I left in the first place. Wow I just looked it up. Holy shit, Mormons are fucking ridiculous. There is no good reason, as far as I'm concerned, to be a Mormon--yeah, freedom of religion and all that jazz, and I think all religions are bullshit, but Mormonism is exceptionally shitty bullshit. It has been demonstrably proven fake several times and even some of the key founding members (including at least on of the guys who signed/verified the BoM) later declared that ol' Joey Smith was full of beans and blue mud.

I've known many people who grew up Mormon and all of them talked about how easy it was to totally undermije everything they'd been taught with any information. The dogma collapses under the slightest scrutiny. Even people who research and WANT it to be true, they said it was disappointing how quickly it all fell apart.

Excommunication is probably one of the best things to happen to this woman. Some therapy and education will help her understand why QN organization so thoroughly corrupt, bigoted, and deceitful ws Mormonism isn't a good idea, ever.

But that's just me being my anti-theist self.

FYI, even the Jehovah's Witlesses let women preach. You're more full of shit than the JWs, Mormons.

Yeah you've pretty much nailed one reason why I left, if you actually read up on the church's history from a neutral standpoint (not reading LDS approved literature and by their standard not going to "anti-Mormon" literature) it still crumbles on itself.

That is one of three of my big reasons for leaving; I officially resigned when Proposition 8 in California was happening. Higher ranking members will deny it up and down but basically "General Authorities" told people to take their money and support the Yes on 8 campaign. As in, telling people from one state to meddle in another state's affairs even after the Doctrine & Covenants from the church tells them not to do this (this is the equivalent of saying Joseph Smith seriously told people not to do that shit). Plus, it was absurd to me how many Mormons would play the victim card of our ancestors being kicked out of states and fleeing to make Utah (even then the Fed stepped in and dissolved the religion) for their polygamist practices and then turn right around and tell homosexuals they can't do this and that.

The third reason is that as I did progress in the church, it never felt right to me. As in, I have two older sisters and two younger sisters, and I see them as equals as human beings... yet the church told me I had all this power over them and that a woman would depend on me someday to have multiple space wives and babies to be a God of my own galaxy. Yes I'm not fucking kidding you.

Ah Mormons. Being raised agnostic in Salt Lake City is a crazy ride. Both my mother and father's sides of the family are Mormon but my dad officially left the church and while my mother was baptized and is still technically a member she doesn't believe in it any longer. I'm the only member of the family who hasn't been baptized, my parents believed in teaching me a neutral stance and allowed me to choose when I grew up. And nothing's changed.

The only other person in my family to break away was one of my cousins who came out gay and was kicked out of the family.

The whole gay marriage thing is the big news right now since the ban on it has been declared unconstitutional and is now being taken to the supreme court. Of course everyone thinks they'll side with the conservatives who of course believe the church decides the laws of the state (which right now, it does.)

There used to be a guy on FSTDT forums named Skyfire who was little more than a Mormon apologist and Transformers fanboy. I don't think there were any neutral sources to read, just Pro-Mormon and Anti-Mormon. He'd try to pass off a lot of pro material as neutral though. I think he got banned for question evasion and not citing his sources.
 
There's a really good documentary on Netflix about a chain of Mormon video stores that used to exist in Utah. See, what they would do is take videos and edit everything out without permission from the studios. This would range from anything from the censoring of swears to cutting like ten to fifteen minutes of explicit material from a film. Film producers were, of course, upset that their works were being disturbed but the general Mormon attitude was for them to fuck right off because in Utah whatever they want, they get. Like, the film studios had to literally have Federal agents seize the material and forcefully shut them down.
 
A couple of years ago while I was spending my holiday in Munich there was this African American gentleman preaching some kind of gospel at Marienplatz. He was speaking in English, but had a handy little interpreter translating his golden words of true and honest truth to the unknowing masses. The parts I was listening to sounded something like this:

I know a story. A true story. A story about two young men. Two young men who were addressed by GOD. And God said, "Chirldren, you must accept me and my son Jesus Christ as your God and savior into your hearts so that I can save your soul from eternal damnation." One of these young men had immediately accepted God and Jesus and was saved. The other, however, has hesitant. "I'm not sure about this, God," he said, "I need some time to think this over."

So he went on with his duties, not accepting God's graciousness. And the next day, do you know what happened? HE WAS HIT BY A BUS!!!! He died immediately, never taking the time to accept God and Jesus, and now he's BURNING IN HELL FOREVER!!!

You see what I'm trying to tell you? There's NO time for doubt. NO time to think twice! YOU MUST ACCEPT GOD NOW OR YOU'LL DIE AND BURN IN HELL FOREVER!!!

I could also go on about all the Islamic nut job I've stumbled across during my days in the land of delicious Augustiner beer and Octoberfest, but 1. that would derail the thread 2. it's more of a tragicomedy than pure lulz.

Went and read it, love Mark Twain and he has a way of dryly pulling apart any opinion. Especially love how he just tore into it from the falsified historical accounts.

I never heard of this guy but is he literally farting? I mean, that isn't just someone making an edit, right? As for the link in the edit, it does seem like a less funny exploration. Really, why have I heard of Peter Popoff but not this guy? Speaking of Peter Popoff, I remember watching a video rant about him selling miracle water, then there is this from Ashens.
I seriously wonder if there are Christians out there who do satirize the likes of televangelist, not just because they make Christians look bad but also because of how these sort of people act.

Right then. Had he actually been farting, he'd only make a joke of himself. Still, looking at the edits, I wonder if he actually tried to sue the people who made the edit, saying what they did is slander and against God, never mind that it could just be parody with the former and the latter he would just be a conman who gets his comeuppance via the law.
 
Right Wing Watch has a good collection of fundamentalist crazies (Bryan Fisher is a major spectacle on it).

I remember this one fundy that I worked with about 15 years ago. She was one of those Pat Robertson supporters who was cynical about almost everything (she referred to herself as a "realist".) Other than her daughter, the whole rapture thing was something she was looking forward to. Which is kind of ironic given that she hated the Jews and thought that they deserved having the Holocaust inflicted on them for "rejecting Jesus." At times it felt really draining to be around her, but looking at it, she was over-worked at two jobs with a "sick" husband who was probably taking advantage of her that being Raptured was the best thing she could look forward to.

That is rather creul, saying the Jews deserve the Holocaust for rejecting Jesus. As for having a husband who may as well be a free loader and seeing the Rapture as the best thing to look forward to, did she complain when it turns out the Rapture doesn't really come in?

I don't know what happened to her. The new manager decided to downsize which meant getting rid of most of the more experienced workers for new ones (she was spared.) Which was a blessing in disguise since it was before 9-11 and I didn't have to listen to any ranting. Last time I met her before I moved to another state, she seemed fine.

EDIT:
Another incident I remember was when I went to college the first time. It had fundy street preachers who would protest on campus and some ran a scam to rile up a target and then sue for assault if anything happened. The one that stuck out the most for me was this woman screaching at students as they passed by with her two young daughter quietly holding signs. Her husband sat on a bench, embarrassed as all heck and probably silently thinking, "would you please shut-up?".
