In the context of CS2 it's silly, but when so many online games have been ruined by updates can you blame them? I imagine most people in this thread have had this happen to them. All it takes is one update to destroy a good game and it's over.
That wasn't a traditional update, they literally had a different game take over CS:GO's app ID. CS2 is not a Source 2 transition update like what DOTA 2 received in 2016, it's a brand new game altogether Valve tried to pass over as an "update."
Well yeah, CS2 is their big money maker, so of course it is a big deal in the office. Way too many people act like they know how game development works and whine about things they dont know about.
"CS2 ISNT GETTING ANY NEW CONTENT!" any content you "want" would immediately become a ghost town after a week. dangerzone was dead, flying scoutsman was dead, arms race was only boomers.
"CS2 NEEDS AN ANTICHEAT. STOP WORKING ON ANYTHING ELSE!" map designers and programmers are not going to be working on an anticheat. VAC is used in multiple games, it probably has its own team of developers.
"We need an operation!" Armory already covers 90% of what the operations were, "get 5 zeus kills in competitive for a STAR to exchange for a case!" coop missions were rare and most were just PVE waves near the end.
"VALVE ONLY CARES ABOUT DEADLOCK" the deadlock team is mostly made up of dota devs, not cs, because its a MOBA.
Can say a lot of shit about Valve, but the way they just completely rearrange a legacy tier game like DotA 2 or CS is crazy. "Anyway: New dota map, each team got a team scan, go nuts. Oh and ammo is now lost when reloading in CS. Carry on".
The major changes Valve makes to CS go 2 ways. They change aspects of the game on a fundamental level that are both wild (because whatever is changed is something players have been used to for eons) and understandable (the changes make sense in a vaccum and beyond), like the changes made to how ammo works back in March.
Yeah, losing the gamified and familiar way makes the game less fun by a small amount but how it is done makes sense and, in practice, doesn't get in the way like I initially assumed.
Now, personally, I think both changes to ammo and the bomb explosion are fucking retarded and do literally nothing to enhance the experience of CS in any way that is meaningful outside of going "WOAW!!! THAT'S NEW!!!" for like an hour or two and I'd much rather have it go back to how it used to be because it was more FUN.
Sadly, that is never gonna happen because this is Counter-Strike in 2026 and having fun is an ancient concept.
I was hoping the ammo change would be a bigger deal than it actually turned out to be, but the average player has gotten so good that you don't really have fire fights in this game anymore. Most players get one tapped the instant they show themselves, so I don't see ammo being used that much anyway.
Overwatch has been reintroduced and the community response to Valve reintroducing something they cried about to add back is to cry about how its lazy. I wish all euroniggers would kill themselves.
