Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

What gets me is how just about every consoomer's copium is "My collection is worth X"

No, it isn't.

A consoomer may have $20k of plastic crap from China retail, but that doesn't mean they could re-sell it for that.
People will insist that there's a buyer for everything , forgetting that if you already bought it, the buyer was you.

Has sports-related consoomerism been discussed in this thread?
It should be. I was trying to find a place to mention it here, but ages ago I recall seeing a video of this Minnesota Vikings fan's trailer. It's all purple and gold in Vikings colors and absolutely full of Vikings memorabilia. It even has shit like a Vikings toilet IIRC. His wardrobe is pretty much nothing but Vikings gear. He's of course a season ticket holder and regularly attends games. I believe he was a runner up for the NFL's Fan of the Year award.

This shit was at least a decade ago so I'm having trouble finding it thanks to search engines being so shit, but it is digging up lots of interesting pictures of Vikings fans.

There’s this dumb thing I have been collecting for a year or two that got really popular on TikTok recently (so yeah, you know it’s autistic haha). And now these things that went between five or ten bucks most places are now almost impossible to find and get up to $25 on Amazon just for the common ones. I just spent fifteen minutes asking myself what the fuck happened to the world.

I’m missing one. Pretty sure one of the dogs ate it. And I found out today that it’s going for around $180 on eBay. Bruh.

I hate Sneakerhead culture...as someone who loves vintage aesthetics, paying out the nose for Nikes that look like actual shoes pisses me off.

Black Rifle Coffee, the Official Covfefe Of MAGAts, is definitely some high-tier consoomer shit. Their marketing is pretty much virtue signalling in reverse, complete with cloutchasing and pandering to veterans instead of trannies- purely performative anti-wokeness instead of performative wokeness.

3edgy5u, our products are all SCARY BLACK GUN NAMEZ!!

and it makes you wonder- if you're that devoted to OWNING THE LIBS, why not just buy an actual MAGA hat, Kekistan flag or Pepe tat?

ETA: Why? Because they have tons and tons of non-coffee merch for the faithful! This exists so security guards can tell their employers "nuh uh, it's not a political statement, I'm just supporting my favorite coffee company!"

Do you know if the coffee is any good?

And right wing virtue signaling honestly should still be considered virtue signaling

I guess the "coffee that panders to retarded conservative consoomers" industry is booming right now. These are all from a company called Minutemen Coffee. Do the people who actually buy this shit think that if they consoom enough products with conservative buzzwords on them the libs will stop trying to take their guns away?

at the end of the day its just coffee and super easy to make your own store and market it on social media.
Conboomers are pretty easy to market for because the alternative is covered in rainbows and donates towards aids niggers.

I hate it when hipsters jack the price up on goods. I'll be MATI if those small bottles of scotch increase in price.
bad news for you then. scotch has gone up.

really good scotch has always been expensive and hasn't increased in price, though.

on topic: who the hell watches "box opening" videos? what is this audience? it confuses me. I can understand the drive to acquire and enjoy objects on some level- I have my pet purchases like anyone- but watching other people consume.

second-hand dopamine hit? I don't understand the appeal.

Look at this fucker:

Anyways to prevent this thread from being derailed, I have created a thread on the Philosophy section:

I hate Sneakerhead culture...as someone who loves vintage aesthetics, paying out the nose for Nikes that look like actual shoes pisses me off.
FYI, sneakers do not last forever. I remember reading an article about some guy who had saran wrapped sneakers that disintegrated in 20 years. It's something about the plastics used.

It's really genius marketing because "woke" culture is expoused by so many corporations, so this is the "rebellious" choice. It's the same reason why Fox News and especially Tucker Carlson get so many viewers, because they're more traditional "fuck you, I'm making money" capitalists who pander to a segment of the market which is ignored by modern woke capitalism.

It's no different than buying a Rage Against the Machine album in the early 90s because you hate DA MAN.

I just like watching people eat weird shit, old shit, or weird old shit.

their notion of reselling is: they ask for the same as whatever price the "experts" in pawn stars tend to say and go surprised pikachu face when the buyer reacts negatively

I saw a video on it once and the answer is children. Not manchildren, literal children. Like toddler and stuff.

There are entire channels of unboxing AK parts, ammo purchases, car parts, etc. If it was only toys I could understand kids watching I think.

I play vintage MTG. I don't buy stuff for it much anymore- my cards are from the 90s when I was first interested, mostly. There's dozens of channels of people opening boxes of card packs, endlessly. This guy sells boxes, so I get his motivation for opening them on-camera to try to get some consoomer excitement going.
There's other channels that don't sell a thing. They just film themselves opening a box of cards.

This guy is pretty notorious for his purely financial interest in the cards, so he might not be the best example. He's trying to get people to buy crap, pretty often- as a collectible these older boxes are only valuable unopened. People pay him to open them on video, for them. I don't understand that at all. If you're going to buy something expensive and take a huge loss on the value of it by opening a "collectible" why are you letting someone else do the opening? I would think that is the only enjoyable part of the whole thing.

edit; he tries to sell newer stuff mostly, and has a group where he shifts new, mostly worthless product.
