Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Anyone who would use this knowing what the fuck Rugrats were would have to be in their late 20's at the youngest. Imagine being a grown ass adult and using something that looks like it was made for use by five year-olds.
I actually asked myself the same question not too long ago when i randomly saw something from a recent nickelodeon kart racing videogame. The audience for those games can't possibly be much older than 12 years old, but most of the characters were from cartoons of the 90s and early 2000s that someone my age would remember. Maybe reruns account for little kids knowing about it, maybe there truly is an audience of 30 plus years olds still obssesed with hey arnold and rugrats that would still buy a kiddie videogame because of it.

The topic of consoomers, for some reason, always devolves into either justifying your Warhammer hobby or wanting to become Amish.
There are also plenty of hobbies that involve consumption, but are very science/history knowledge oriented like collecting rocks, fossils, coins, artifacts etc. Such hobby communities are fine with people buying collections, but in my experience people get a lot more clout in their communities for finding their own shit by going on digs etc. IMO it's a lot more satisfying to own things that were once living breathing creatures carrying on their lives or objects people utilized and carried around at various points in history, than plastic that was just popped out of a mold last Thursday. And a bonus is that for the most part sjws haven't ruined or tainted any of these.

The only downside (maybe not though?) with these hobbies is that they're usually pretty niche. You can't just find people off the street like with nerd shit and games. You have to seek people out on the internet or attend local hobby clubs.

Is it consooming if I buy like 1/2 pops of characters I actually like? Like I don’t regret the Zuko or Bulbasaur pops I have
No

Consooming is something you buy for the sake of it whether you like it or not aka throwing your money not wisely

I think this thread can also work as a way to know CONSOOM drama. There's has been currently a shitshow taking place in the Pokemon TCG community over scalpers and big name youtubers, as some of you might already know, Logan Paul decided to get into collecting vintage packs and cards pulling up to $100,000 worth, this of course started a snowballing effect with more and more people getting on it for the money and the views with scalpers being the real winners here because now they could sell all their boxsets at ridiculous prices for easy money. This has been a thing for a few months but it wasn't until a few weeks ago that it reached a boiling point during the 25th anniversary celebration; So Nintendo decided to do a collaboration with McDonald's where in every happy meal would come with a pack of special 25th anniversary cards, most if not all of them where just reprints of already existing cards but with shiny effects but that didn't stop 35+ old dudes from ordering more that 100 meals so they could get the whole set and sell the rest, this got out of control too fast and McDonald's couldn't keep up with the demand so they just stopped putting the cards on the kids food which means that any child that wanted his happy meal toy will eat shit because 40 year old Ashfan99 has to catch em' all, but that wasn't even the worst part. The scalping got so bad that you couldn't even find any normal booster pack on stores and most of them got raided by squadron of scalpers taking everything for themselves, some even reported actual physical fights over cardboard cards. Many are crying to Nintendo to do something about this, while others might leave the community over the whole situation.

This video helps to understand a little more how things are going:

TL;DR: Children card game became rich kids hobby and now consoomers are angry because now they need more money to CONSOOM.
WTF? I work at mcdonalds and I can confirm those cards are worthless. Most of them are just reprints of starter pokemon. That said its better than MTG which has black lives matter themed cards. We have a thread on MTG stuff somewhere I think.

I am sure he will actually play that Super Mario game and not give up after the second world kicks his soy boy ass into the dirt and go back to tweeting how much he loves it because the likes give him the dopamine rush he wants.

Why is he kissing the switch like he was kissing a family member.
Because that's exactly what Nintendo is to them.

Call me nitpicking but among the Switch games he would choose just why he had to pick the ported Wii U title as his first Switch game. What a waste.
Because it's the new hot release that they promoted. Bowser's Fury is a whole new thing, but it's short as hell. It takes more time to get out of Midgar in the original final fantasy 7 then it does to 100% Bowser's Fury.

@mr.moon1488 mentioned sugar babies already, but these chicks are all over TikTok. It kind of wigs me out to see how much they worship specific brands and labels, even when it's knockoff stuff like a Starbucks cup from Etsy that someone slapped LV stickers on:

The worst part is, nothing in the McDonalds product is worth anything.

Like they have a Charmander, a reprint of the very first one from the base set.

The Market price for a Base Set Charmander?

Five Dollars.

Do you know why that is? Because There is no format in which it is playable, there is no real competitive place for you to sleeve it up in your deck and show it off, as opposed to Lightning Bolt in magic the gathering..where the first printing is 200 Dollars because despite being printed into the ground..is playable in many formats where you can take that Beta card..sleeve it up and show it off.
That's always been the distinction, yeah a base set charmander unlimited isn't worth shit but a 1st edition can potentially go for 1k plus. Playability lends a lot of value to magic cards, but as soon as that card goes out of format or is no longer played its price plummets. For something like a bolt that is almost eternally playable this isnt a problem from a consumer standpoint, as when you feel like it you can probably get your money back for it. But any random card that was hype in modern a few years ago that you payed $300 for may not translate or even be playable in other formats, your lucky to maybe get $50 back for it.

In my opinion I don't know if I would consider that "consoomer" like behavior. I think the difference between relatively normal people with expensive hobbies, which I'll label "enthusiasts", and the consoomers that are mentioned is this thread is outlook. Enthusiasts usually have other things going on in their lives, whether it be other hobbies, relationships, work, or other interests that keep them well rounded. A consoomer on the other hand makes their consumerism the key aspect of their personality, whether it be religiously following the brand and buying all their products day one or defending the IP on the social medias every day ad nauseum. The personality of the consoomer is focused purely on the brand, they exist only to buy product and get excited to buy more product.
I would also say the goal of the thing is another aspect. My friend has spent a lot of money over the years on bikes, mostly his main bike. Talking a couple of grand easy, perhaps more. But he goes out on it all the time, and we have been to some crazy outdoor runs on our bikes.

Those who buy those little figures of star wars shit, it has no goal. The ownership is the goal, it provides nothing beyond being able to say you have it. At least people who spend like 10k on a guitar can actually play the damn thing, as sickening as it is to spend that much money.

These prostitutes in denial have their own thread in the Prospering Grounds now if you want to add to it

Nintendo fandom as a whole is pretty weird. They have many different sects but a single thread seems to run through them all, it's of nostalgia.

Old issues of Nintendo Power are also ungodly expensive because it's entirely driven by nostalgia. Especially the later issues that started having banner segments on the spine. In a way most of the fandom refuses to actually move on and try new things, they just want to dump more cash into everything that looks familiar and it's like they want time to stand still around them.
Can confirm. I only consider the two NES Zelda games to be canon. They already started ass-pulling with time travel in Link to the Past.

Imagine doing a newborn-style photoshoot for a console with no games lmao.
I guess they're just having fun so it's not that bad, but I figure they'll look back weirdly if the console turns out to suck.
