Even when lots of the Asians tried calling out the Tyrones who were shoving people in front of trains, they got shut down :story:

Whenever I think about the lockdowns and pandemic besides I lost my study abroad program, I keep thinking about how the celebrities got together and sang imagine, pissing everyone off including me. What a fucking time.
the whole pandemic panic was a perfect example of modern mass psychogenic illness, people think it doesn't happen anymore because of the magical effects of the Current Year^tm, but it does, it simply isn't as obvious because the world at large has broader beliefs and more diverse psychological states than a small disjointed community, so instead of everyone meowing or dancing or seeing gnomes pop out everywhere, they get crazy in ways that are less objective and noticeable, like a collective case of paranoia

and it was like watching everyone fall back on some kinda tribal magical thinking, proof of what happens when people encounter a manufactured problem they can't solve
"if i wear a mask it'll go away... ok, it didn't, maybe if we all wear a mask, and stay away from eachother! what? we still need to go to work? ok, the workplace is a magical zone where distancing doesn't matter, we only need to stay 2 feet apart outside... unless you're doing something i deem important, then it no countsies! oh there's a vaccine now? we gotta take it to be safe! what? you're not letting me out of the house even though i took the vax? oh fuck, everyone has to take it or i'm not safe! everyone in my vacinity took it? uhhh, ok, but someone out there didn't take it so we're still not safe! oh the vaccine doesn't actually work... but it's SAFER if we take it, right? now everyone needs to get the vax but take off the masks and go back to work? wait wait about about- now the vax doesn't work and we need a booster? but i only just got i- NOW THE BOOSTER DOESN'T WORK? WAIT, WHAT ABOUT DISTANCI- WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE FIRING ME FOR SAYING THE VAX DOESN'T WORK, YOU JUST SAID IT DOESN'T? WHAT? WEAR A MASK? NO MASK? WEAR A MASK AGAIN? 2 FEET APART? DO THE HOCKEY POCKEY? TO THE WINDOW? TO THE WALL?"

I can't hear Imagine any more without thinking of this Steely Dan song (which is actually specifically mocking Imagine).

Towards the end of his wretched life, John Lennon himself pretended Imagine was ackchually a parody because it got ridiculed all throughout the 70s. Same goes for Working Class Hero. His solo career turned out to be the weakest of all The Beatles. Mark David Chapman did nothing wrong.

YouTube decided I needed to see this.
It's much worse than you would expect. Looking at the thumbnail, you probably think each 1000-2000 yen lucky draw will get them roughly equal value items, which would still be stupid. They spent $100 USD to get
2 $10-15 prize figures and a cheap electric toothbrush. And that's generous, the prize figures could easily have been $5 overstock.
There are sequels.
They could go to a store in the same shopping center and buy anything in there for less. There's a 0% chance anybody is winning any of the real "prizes" in there.

May be late but felt this is relevant:

You ONLY see this shit successfully pulled with the english release versions of games. I fucking wish they let me learn fucking japanese back in the day not because of weeb shit but because the JP versions of games will forever be dirt cheap. I'll have to play NES or SNES megaman in moon runes if I want to play a non emulator port.

Having known one of these types in university, this captures it really well. I can't help yet wonder why it's always Nintendo with them before concluding it's the Peter Pan syndrome.
It's always either Nintendo or Sega. I've noticed males get Peter Pan Syndrome while some women get this "I wish I was 20" attitude. Rather than maturing, they still try to act and dress like a young woman. Excessive makeup, promiscuity, refusal to commit in life, etc. Usually they're 30-50 and desperately trying to look younger. Rejecting your own age is toxic and fundamentally self destructive.

Just start learning Japanese, it’s fun. I can play Japanese games fine (unless it’s really text-based with a lotta kanji)

I've heard a couple of figurine autists say the gaijin piggus have been catching on, so now all the second hand stores in japan have been catering more and more to international tourists that go there several times a year just to buy collectibles. So more hoarding, more price increases and more scalping when they release something new.

Well, I do like the idea of winning random prizes. My complaint is, and you already mentioned this, the prizes look cheap. Add that multiple were household or health. Like if I spent a lot of money for an eye mask or electric toothbrush no thanks. At least when you spend money on a pack of Pokemon cards you get cards; not your mom's personal items.
