Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Ever since Palworld, I've noticed this trend of consoomers seeing a successful rival product (or even a perceived rival), and then running to tell on them to billion dollar corporation's legal team.

There was Palworld, obviously.
There was that guy pretending to be a Nintendo lawyer to get a bunch of Garry's mod content removed.
And today I saw someone hoping Bungie sues The First Descendant for the crime of having ability icons that look kind of similar, citing this tweet.

Just don't copy things bro, you shouldn't just copy things, alright, not cool man.

LoL, these people need to hunt things to do.

that tweet is a shit example, hes showing the similarities and getting in response "yeah we did copy someone eles work"
i dont know what either of those things are but it does look copied to me and that just seems uncreative and stupid and worth pointing out if you care about the topic at hand

this thread went from discussing consumerism, to gay ironyposting "why even care about anything bro? why demand any level of quality from anything ever? just accept poo, just take it on the chin" whats next, dont criticize a brand just consume their product?

Yes, but that's what I saw Destiny randoms citing as the smoking gun to cry and hoping Destiny/Bungie legal shuts down the game.

They are the icons to show various buffs and abilities.

The problem is such icons are fairly generic and there are even stock ones online.

The hand with something coming out it icon is practically a gaming staple.

Here is one from bioshock.

And it even has three bolts coming out of it like one of the examples in the post. Someone call up Ken Levine so he can sue Bungie for copyright.

This thread's posts are striking and often horrifying because they convey terror about how imbalanced your life can become if you pour it all into one thing, but compunded by growing inequality and cost disease. A house went costing a thousand times as much as a bit of plastic junk to ten or fifty thousand times so your acquisitiveness and neglect can become just that much more visible.

The gamecollecting sub was better before the switch consoomers happened.

And before it started treating soyboys who just compulsively purchase every new release at full price (or old release at full price because Nintendo) as collectors.

This guy is currently about 400 (full priced) games short of catching 'em all, with more being released every day. Can he do it?

>i dont know why people get so mad and jealous over someones game collection

First of all, who would be jealous of this? Half of this is probably shovelware meant for 6 year olds. And while gaming is a decent enough hobby, even an avid player could only play 1/10th of this properly at most, so yeah people are justified in being critical of buying a pile of plastic just to let it rot in a shelf. Hope the modern slaves mining the metals for the tech was worth it.

It's like the male version of a shein haul, or the cringy geek version of collecting cars you never drive and rot in a garage.

Being a chronic gamer is not a great hobby, but still miles better than consooming for the sake of consooming. Like really, what even is the fun in just looking up products online and then buying them, already knowing you're not actually going to use it? This shit isnt even vintage/retro yet and it doesn't look appealing either.

At least some nerds do cool stuff like leaning blacksmithing or making mead.

Maybe this belongs more under gaming or sports, but this thread came to mind after seeing this headline:

People who buy the newest sports game (Fifa, Madden, NBA 2K, etc.) are consoomers , the games are nearly identical to the previous year with an updated roster with the gambling addiction that comes with opening packs for the online function (ultimate team). As well the games have no resell valve so you are losing money if you buy it brand new.

Most of the people who only play sportsball games have brown skin and a low IQ so I don't think they exactly care about stuff like 'fun' in games or even resell value lol

They usually play these games on the latest game console as a status symbol because to them a $500 PS5 bought with fentanyl money is like having a Rolls Royce

This popped up in my youtube recommendations and was an alright watch (on 2x speed)
But what caught me was this closer

please forgive video jankiness, openshot editor was not happy with me

The bottled-water-in-theme-parks-and-festivals thing always cracks me up, since it's generally unlawful for venues to refuse (or fail) to provide access to some kind of potable water free of charge (whether it's from a kitchen tap, a drinking fountain, or whatever). Even if there's only one well-hidden out-of-the-way fountain in a venue for 50,000 people, there has to be one (in working order, serving potable water) and they can't charge for it. Even if the cunts won't let you bring in an empty bottle, you should still be able to get a little plastic cup and keep refilling it throughout the day.

"But I want it cold!" Shut up, dude. That can actually be worse for you if you're experiencing hyperthermia. You're burning up inside, and you're going to shock your organs with chilled water? That's gonna feel great, champ.

they're legally mandated to but they won't put it on display, they'll just insist it's implied that if you reeeeeally need it you can go and nicely ask for a cup from the tap, but nobody is gonna give it to you unless you're actually dying of overheating

also a lot of times businesses actually train employees who deal with customers to refuse things like that, and then if they ever get in trouble they can say "oh man you should've come to me, the boss... ol johnny over here, he's just an employee he's inexpirienced, he just doesn't know he can give it to you, riiiight johhny? nobody told you, riiiiiight?"

i've worked in a few places where i knew we had access to facilities like water and toilets and had to let people in, but were told to drag it out and let as few people in as possible, play dumb, act like "hmm i'm not sure if it's allowed" and most people who don't know the law will just say "oh ok", whereas those who do know it will get the ol "ill ask the boss" *goes to the back and does nothing* "he said it's ok"

The one particular strain of old media horder I can't respect: It's the worst format there ever was while DVDs and CD or LDs are mostly fine when not exposed to UV, vhs really is cancerous because even without taperot, the picture quality is just so insanely bad to begin with - I just can't. Vinyl on the other hand or LD not only has acceptable quality from the get go, it also looks cool, big sleeves with huge art work illustrations - it's really something you can show of but a VHS even looks disposalble and cheap. I don't get it, isn't stimming me in the least.

I'll make one exception for obscure tape horders. Legit rare bootlegs, news B rolls (but then that's mostly pro formats), that kinda stuff but then I also expect they guy to digitize and ARCHIVE, like true 8mm and 9.5 collectors

I sort of agree but I don't think it's as bad as collecting NEW SHINY things. Those tapes are already there, nobody's producing them anymore, so dude is pretty much collecting old junk because it's old junk. Weird but it's not unnecessarily consuming resources like new capeshit funkopops
