Am I thr only one that doesn't get the obcession with emulating old games?
Those games typically are far worse then what is available, both mechanically and graphic wise. And portability excuse is stupid, there are far better mobile games, and they don't require a whole different device

And what would Therapy do for most folks? Current Day Therapy has one solution "Take these expensive drugs." So it would just be changing Consuming Product to Consuming other Product.

At least the Funko Pops don't kill your kidneys.
While medication is common and is often used as part of therapy to tackle depression symptoms, ultimately therapy tries to address the sources of underlying emotional distress, addressing past traumatic or emotionally painful events the patient experienced and helping them recover from them, and mainly trying to guide the patient into making lifestyle and behavioral changes that can improve their mental and emotional well-being. Of course, that all relies on the patient doing their part as well.

In most cases it's either nostalgia (what else) or it's trendy to have played certain retro games that may or may not have flown under the radar when they were new and only now are considered cool, e.g. Earthbound.

that reminds me of some reddit post or twitter i don't remember where some soy collector guy was saying how funkos and junk food make you feel food and are cheaper than therapy . Don't know how true that is, i guess if you live in Muhrica and have no insurance a trip to the edibles store and a rick and morty funko will be cheaper than a psychiatry. consultation, either way that state of mind is kinda sad, there's obviously something missing for a lot of people.

OK. Therapy sperg. Relevant (ish) vague powerlevel. I have a raft of mental illness diagnoses. I've been to five different therapists.

Every one of them sucked for different reasons. I went to one who had a doctorate in psychology. She sucked the most. All she did was have me write about my past in several year chunks, but not discuss anything about those years, or tell me why I was going through this bullshit.

None of them touched on my traumas or gave me any kind of coping skills, or even addressed my diagnosises. Other than to give me more, then never bring them up again.

I'm sorry for the no1curr shit, but that's why people don't seek therapy. Its because people who DO have insurance don't get anything out of therapy when most therapists are like these. They pay their copay every week for literally nothing. People without insurance don't have $100-120 a week to sit and shoot the breeze, which is what my first therapist and I did.

Then there's the availability factor. A lot of people with mental illness work shitty jobs because, surprisingly enough being mentally wobbly interferes with your ability to do a good job at a steady 9-5 with a good income. So, these jobs they work at have wierd schedules that change from week to week and therapists like regularly scheduled appointments between 8-5, which often won't work with these wierd schedules. Sure, if you get a good boss they'll work with you, but anyone who's worked retail or the like is familiar with the last minute guilt trip "we need you to come in, Amy called out and so did John, we're short staffed". Technically not accommodating you is against the law in the US, but good luck proving it.

So you turn to maladaptive coping methods. Shopping and food (especially if you're on psych meds because they increase your appetite) are common. Instant dopamine hit, you feel better for a while. Then you crash, so you go again.

Of course, that all relies on the patient doing their part as well.
Bullshit, ultimately Therapy tries to fill the Therapists pockets, the same way a Doctor exists to write out opiates for problems because they get kickbacks.

It’s no different from watching an old movie or reading an old book. My hope is that eventually playing old games will become as easy as those two activities, but for now it generally requires a lot of technical knowledge, especially the titles that have been abandoned and never re-released.

What mobile games are you playing? From my experience, mobile games are all garbage micro-transaction hellscapes. I can’t download them to my phone anyway, so it’s not even an option for me.

I'll give him one thing: old novelty TVs like that are actually about as collectible as old TVs can possibly be, and he only has five of them. They'd be great for taking to gaming conventions.

Funny enough, I just tried searching for "Cartoon themed CRT TVs", and this picture came up:

Looks like it's from the same guy. Wow. I wouldn't mind the Winnie the Pooh or Spongebob ones, myself.

The shrek tv is a mass produced item with a novelty/weird/funny factor to it., as are those other TVs. The hard to get shit is the import stuff like the fucking SEGA TV with the built in dreamcast, and even then that one's just hard to get because of the price gougers and the fact its literally a mini TV with a built in dreamcast. No way in hell would i ever think of owning that many variants of movie/brand tie in TVs but it's an understandable thing given how people collect and use the things. The shrek one is the supreme variant as it holds the same kind of odd style to it the SEGA TV has.

2 of the tvs in that image seem to have slightly borked screens and he has just enough TVS to fill each point of a pentagram... Is this man trying to summon the ogrelord?

Psychotherapy and psychiatry are two different types of treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy is the gold standard for dismantling crappy thought patterns for recovery from depression/anxiety. It won't cure ASD, but honestly some of these autists oughta be medicated anyway RIP kidneys.

edit:

Sorry your psychiatrist couldn't cure your autism.

To be honest, that clear TV looks kind of neat.

I found games I used to play as a kid and they were pretty aweful except one. I didn't pay the two dollar price tag after 30 minutes ran out, let alone get a system

That seems like an aweful lot of effort for nostalgia. Not to mention good book remains good, and worst thing with movies are cheesy effects and shitty camera. Old games tend to be outclassed in all regards. The better ones are easy to find, forgotten ones are typically low-quality trash.
Depends what you want. COD:M is actually a good game, WoT blitz looks decent, never cared for platformers but I am pretty sure you could find something.

I don't disagree.
I think these problems won't be solved without massive structural changes to our society. Like I said, I believe a lot of these problems stem from systemic issues like lack of economic security, lack of time off from work, lack of community and family, etc. Fixing those things - making it so that people can afford to live comfortably without having to worry all the time even if they don't have highly marketable skills, so they aren't bankrupted by medical bills, making it so people have time to spend with their families and communities and on healthy hobbies? That's the solution imo. Therapy is helpful for those who are already hurt by the system as it exists now, but for most of them, not being stressed out about the bills all the time, being able to afford regular medical care, having time away from work to spend with their friends and families, and having a community to engage with (offline!) will cure them better than any antidepressant. That's my POV on it, anyway.
I think most social media platforms and news outlets in themselves are contributing heavily to mental illness. Honestly, I think many of these platforms recognize this, and none of these platforms care (even though they often claim to). It's all about profit and propaganda.
What really makes me laugh is when you're on one of these platforms, and all these ads pop up for "therapy devices" and "subscriptions to wellness" programs.

Maybe the old games might not be as polished as the newer games but sometimes it's nice to play a simple game that isn't filled with DLC and microtransactions and a horrible story with hour long unskipable cutscenes. Also there are types of games that aren't really being made by anyone anymore. No one is really making old school FPS like doom or duke nukem and no one is really making those point and click puzzle games like Myst. The few indie companies that do try to make these types of games usually don't live up to the originals either.

Forgotten games are often low-quality, but sometimes copyright and license issues prevent even a once super popular game from getting rereleased. Goldeneye 007 is a mess as far as copyright goes. Even something simple like the Mother games can turn into a disaster because while Nintendo owns certain rights, the games can only be released if both Nintendo and Itoi Shigesato allow it, as they share the copyright.

Saying old games are outclassed is odd considering how many new games are directly inspired by old games and even made to look like they are running on old systems. Games since the late 80s have been capable of having over an hundred hours of content, so it’s not like sheer length is anything to go by when the latest CoD campaign mode can be finished in a few hours.

I'm not surprised at all. Game collectors are a crazy breed:

$120 for a big 4-outlet power strip from 25 years ago. This thing exists because you need to have three transformers plugged in to power a fully-loaded Sega Genesis with a 32X and a Sega CD, so you could buy this big fancy one to plug in your TV and all three transformers. The age alone makes it a borderline fire hazard, but that sega logo means you can pull three figures from a single power strip.

There's a modern solution to having so many transformers plugged in: Power squids, they take up less space and cost $20. But they don't have the Sega logo on them, so I guess they're not worth consooming.

IIRC that's actually a modern Prison TV, I remember hearing some prisons still use CRT but keep it simplistic, boxy, and clear so the innards are always visible and inmates can't hide shit in them or something like that a few years ago.

Yeah, the sega logo is the reason why this one's being bought for crazy prices, but the fucking Sega TV is literally a japanese dreamcast perma-wired to a somewhat portable sized TV. I remember hearing one of the major things hit by consoomers and scalpers during the pandemic was the dreamcast, never checked partly because I already have an idea of the kinda ludicrous prices fuckers are scalping them for knowing the situation with literally everything else and scalpers these last 2 years.

Yeah here is a great video on clear prison technology.

Just in case you want your own shitty low quality clear plastic radio.
