I'd respect them for at least being concious of their choices and onwing up to it, the consoom brand parents are way worse and i also don't think is good these redditors reproduce but i feel what the smug posters here don't get is that people with no kids are the ones who should save their money for the future the most and not the other way around. They are not going to have grown sons and daughters taking care of them when they are old , sick and all alone with a pile of toys and an alcoholism problem.

Something being lego does not instantly make it a consoomer thing. These are all within Lego's whole "high end display piece models" thing and are nowhere near as ridiculously priced as the fucking 800 dollar millennium falcon. This genre of sets has been around for ages but there's definitely a lot more nowadays than there used to be around a decade ago or so. They still existed back then but it was shit like train models and space skulls and other weird fucking very lego-ish things. Closest match to that I can think of these new high end lego sets are is the "Haunted house" set that's very deceptively named. It's a set of Baron Von Baron's house he's apperently converted into a tower of terror-esque ride for some reason. They don't include a figure of him but there's a giant fucking portrait of him and his name is on the fucking front of the building. it's not called "haunted house" on the door it's called "manor von baron". Shits just filled with adventurers references too things like 300 dollars I'd grab the shit out of that if I had the money for it and jam my old ass adventurers lego guys in there cause Lego for some reason decided toskimp out and only include generic rider and employee minifigs. There's a skeleton chained up in the attic that's an implied corpse of Sam Sinister, which is referencing how weirdly like some point mid-series the names for baron von baron and sam sinister swapped around somehow and the other just kinda vanished.

I'm of the opinion it'll probably waste less energy over all anyways, because a lot of cables are shitty and will break over time from constant use, but if you only need to sit a device down on a platter nothing is being bent the wrong way. Not having to buy the cable means less material wasted, and less manufacturing. But regardless it's better for your battery than fast charging through a cable.

Yeah, in my experience Lego consoomers tend to be a subset of Star Wars consoomers (no surprise there) rather than gravitating towards these “adult” Lego sets. These expensive display-piece sets aren’t really designed to satisfy the consoomer completionist mindset either, because outside of a few lines (Technic vehicles, classic cars, modular buildings, architecture, probably a couple more I’m missing) they don’t really have any theme or pattern and are more often than not just a one-off. There’s no exclusivity, no artificial scarcity, no FOMO because Lego sets are always in circulation for at least 2-3 years before getting retired.
I will give them credit, they are at least interestingly designed and not just sagging ikea shelves. Nice color scheme and layout.

As someone who lives near a large tourist-laden city, we have a huge open air mall where tourists flock to and it has a LEGO store somewhere that's usually well crowded, even today.
lego scalpers are a special nightmare hell world kinda deal and have been since before the pandemic. Thing that seperates them from normal scalpers is they'll either go for specific sets the whole time they're in production and after or they'll wait till like the year it goes out of circulation and ramp up their prices to 500 or 1000 or some absurd shit like that. it's been like this for as long as I can fucking remember and it's partly why I never did get those bionicle crabs when I was a kid. G2 bionicle on the other hand was scalped throughout it's entire run.

Slight PL, but I’ve bought every modular building since release (thankfully it’s pretty much just one per year)… except for the Town Hall, which is long retired and goes for $300-500 on the aftermarket. Lego is generally pretty good at keeping up with demand as long as the set’s not retired, but once something is gone (especially larger more expensive sets) the prices really start to skyrocket.
