Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

I have never seen more cope from one person in my entire life. Holy shit, what a poisoned person. At least she admits Disney is a religion to her in a very roundabout way.

But then she goes and proves her zealous loyalty to academia with ""But if we measure religion by its truth-claims - because we CAN'T assess those unless we have something much more powerful than a Ph.D"

Ph.Ds are pieces of paper that prove you read and wrote a shitload of papers, and got yourself into a shitload of debt, making incredibly wealthy people even richer, so you can have access to jobs others without such opportunities cannot. Degrees are not an indicator of one's talent or knowledge. They are proof of loyalty to academia. The "It's late capitalism on steroids" just caps that off beautifully, because her axioms on degrees = value of oneself is one of the biggest, most insidious capitalistic ideas in the world, pushed by morons like her who simply cannot fathom it.

Her fake high end style looks exactly like the cheap copy of high end style. Everything looks cheap and low quality.
That was my thinking as well. The whole "High end look" thing never really "hits" for me. Things like fake plants in particular always fall right into the uncanny valley.
Not that I'm partial to a lot of other aesthetics either, it's just that this one in particular always stands out.

I can already feel the flimsy, poorly-cut plastic on the other side of that. It looks cheap, but miiiiiiiiight work if you give it a slightly distressed look. If the plastic's strong enough to be distressed without falling apart.

lol, I've had a few of those suction cup hangers. They don't last long, and they look like they belong in a bathroom.

hey look, it's Hitler

Yeah, that one's nice. Doesn't look high-end at all, but I like it.

Would look great if it weren't for the words.

Hot glue on pillow cases made from fabric from Dollar Tree? Those'll feel terrible all around. Couldn't you just make some out of clearance clothes from Target and learn to sew?

I'm 100% all for making nice stuff out of really cheap (or salavaged) things, DIY efforts are fun and great, but she's just not quite there with a lot of those. The baskets are great, though.

Ha. That's why I didn't include a screenshot of it. I actually like it too. It's one of those "practical and looks nice" things, rather than "something pretending to be fancy" things.
Also, just so the Americas don't get all the blame:

All of this shit looks so cheap and tacky. The brush script font has been embarrassing for most of a decade, fake flowers are cringe in almost every situation.

Salvaging and upcycling is great but you need to start with materials that already are decent quality and just need some tlc and imagination. It also helps to actually be skilled working with what you're upcycling. I'm making a quilt out of old clothing right now, it's beautiful and doesn't look cheap and tacky because it has effort and skill put into it.

To add to the point, the idea of hot gluing fabric makes me want to scream. Jesus fucking christ buy a sewing machine at goodwill for $20.

It betrays a persistent consumer mentality. The hot glue shows whatever it's being used on isn't meant for long-term use. It's a novelty or a prop, more than an actual version of whatever it is supposed to be.

Sadly there’s no way to achieve an expensive look without spending.
You can have nice, clean, cozy, whatever… but not high end. Which is not a tragedy, just look for a different style.

Expensive things look expensive because they are expensive. There's a phrase we use for tools at work: buy once cry once. You'll waste time and money trying to keep something cheap working.

However, we need to dive into snap on and Milwaukee people. People who buy the most expensive tools to only do only changes or nail something into a wall need to fuck off

It's more about taste than price. These examples are bad because they're in poor taste AND made out of shitty walmart/dollar store materials. A house that's full of thrifted items can look beautiful and classy if you're discerning about what you thrift. My favorite wine glasses are beautiful hand blown vintage pieces I found for $20 for the whole set.

Generic "high end" is also only a style you should go for if you want your house to look like a bland hotel room.

@Unyielding Stupidity God damn. I thought the Burning Team Captain was bad, and that thing costed $14,000 if I'm correct. This was back in 2012, at the beginning of the downward spiral.

The TF2 tradefags completely fucked up what could've been a great game.

Actual question for you/maybe also @Vingle - What's high end these days?
I don't mean what celebrities have that we see on shit like:

I mean "What are rich people doing in their own homes these days"? Like, is this representative?

Or a doctor's office.

Lord. Aside from the autistic clapping that was a pretty pathetic return. Has Disney gotten around to cucking Cade Skywalker , Mara Jade and Revan yet? I wanna conserve my rage and limited amount of Star Wars related fucks for when that happens.
Word on the street is that Mara Jade's basically been banned from usage, as far as the fact that the Disney regime's hate boner for Luke and the way they've been quietly testing the waters about potentially making Luke gay so they can irrevocably nuke any chance of anyone in the future trying to sneak Mara and her marriage to Luke back into continuity.

Cade is too cool toxic considering how he's white and his relationship with Deliah is troubled. Kotor is being remade by a wokie so yes, soon.

Watch some superyacht and luxury real estate tours on YouTube if you want to see how the super rich actually decorate their homes. They have much better taste than “influencers”.

They all look incredibly tacky. Buying or aspiring to things because they're expensive is the height of consoomerism.
