I do not understand the need to collect retro vidya in 2022 other than to signal to other neckbearded enthusiasts online.

Most old videogames are a time bomb. Cartridge batteries die after a few decades which prevents save data being stored. This is fixable but requires soldering, which to the lay person is kryptonite. Just imagine needing to operate on your cartridge worth $200 which will be rendered worthless if you fuck up? Then you also have contact damage and erosion. Disc based media is not immune either as disc rot is starting to rear its ugly head for CDs made in the 80s/90s, and even DVDs. I already have several PS1 games destroyed by it. There is nothing you can do as it's believed to be a manufacturing defect.

Don't forget that to even get legitimate carts, you will also have to become your own appraiser. I had to follow a guide and cross reference product codes to see if a GBA game I bought was even legitimate. Who wants this hassle other than for pride or e-peen measurement? Just get an HDD/SD loader and custom firmware for your console of choice and download ROMS onto them, or even just use an emulator. Most are 95% accurate by now and improve every year.
 
Last night, I saw an ad on YouTube for crypto. The video had a 30’s cartoon-inspired Cuphead kind of esthetic and the voiceover was pure thug nigger ‘we gone take dis place ovah and gits what’s ours at de head of de table’.
You know when ads are trying to appeal to niggers’ feelings of injustice to get them to consoom something that they are almost certain to lose money on, that you have a bad product.

EDIT: found the ad. It’s apparently for a brokerage firm, not crypto (don’t blame me, I automatically filter out angry nigger speak).
But yeah, “I’m a poor, angry nigger, if you aspire to be a poor, angry nigger as well buy this product” is only marginally better than Gilette’s “Fuck you toxic male shitbags, buy our product”.

I fucking hate the disc rot shit, it's apperently caused by mold or something and so far none of my things have been hit with it but I'm also afraid to open up my gamecube games that have been sitting around for a decade or so. PS1/Ps2 games though have a common defect that produces a similar effect to the fungal disk rot but without actual fungus, and it' sjust a case of the disk getting hot enough oroverused to the point it fucking ends up erasing it's own data somehow. I remember that shit being a common problem back in the day. but the cartridge thing is apperently easily fixable in a lot of cases, and not even every cartridge is battery based for saves IIRC . The price shit though? Fuck that I fucking hate the current state of charging hundreds for retrograde stuff .market speculators and consoomers can shove their $20'000 copies of whatever game up their fat asses. The insane prices are almost SOLELY for the English releases of games and I found that out when I wentto a convention afewyears before corona hit and the foreign release SNES games were like 5 bucks while the English ones were 100 dollars. If I knew how to speak and read other languages I'd more or less just go for the foreign releases of physical media that english release is scalped before dealing with emulation jank. I'm not gonna pay scalpers regardless, But my reason for keeping physical games is solely the fact that having physical copies of a thing is generally more convenient to me. It sucks that eventually emulators which companies hate not because of their jank but because of potential profit loss/piracy are gonna be the only way to play a lot of games someday. Nintendo switch's online n64 is proof of a current lack of care with games, and coming from nintendo of all fucking people.

If I ever figure out how to solder shit and maybe speak/read another language I'll be golden, at least for cartridge based stuff. The contact damage is fixable from what I've seen with refurbished consoles, and repro carts are also a thing ,but You see less of those lately online and more just bootleg shit claiming to be legit and scalped at the same price as the legit ones.

I only rated your post dumb because of the "nothing you can do" thing but I legit agree with the whole fucking current "retro collecting!!!" scene being a fucking consoomer shadow of what used to just be "oh yeah used games from several consoles back are cheaper". It kinda pisses me the hell off and it has it's roots way back tothe Earthbound scalpers of forever ago.

Once it sets in there is nothing you can do to recover it though, the data is gone. You can try to prevent it with good disc care like avoiding scratches and keeping it out of UV light, but half of the problem - the manufacturing process and the innate design of CDs - is out of your control. The other thing that pisses me off about retro consooming now you mention it is the CRT masturbation. Yes I own a CRT and yes it's very nice to have for a nostalgia factor, but 'purists' have also sucked all of the fun out of it with the image quality circlejerk. If you're not playing on RGB-modded system, on a Sony PVM, with $100 cables which took 6 months of patchy email correspondence with a mentally unstable European to secure, your setup ain't shit!

You know, I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but the resort interior doesn't look as "expensive"/luxurious as I expected. I mean, it looks more like the interior of a mall than what I'd imagine the interior of a luxury resort to look like. I've never stayed at a luxury resort, though, so please let me know if I'm wrong.

Most of the Galactic Starcruiser material on this page of the thread makes it look like way less of a deranged catastrophe than I expected, just based on the concept.

And even still, with all that, I can safely say Disney’s new, slightly deranged hotel experience is the most fun you’ll have at Disney World. After disembarking, I made up for the vitamin D I’d sacrificed onboard by visiting the Magic Kingdom, where Cinderella Castle and Fantasyland felt banal and pedestrian compared to the ship’s intricately designed interiors; even Dole Whip was bland and uninspired after days of biting into sweet orbs with surprise centers. There’s some kind of magic in a bottle happening within that cruise-hotel’s walls and I, a middling Star Wars fan, somehow left inexplicably changed by it. It’s nothing if not aggressively inventive, which is remarkable for a franchise with this many corporate cooks in the kitchen. Despite some necessary story retooling that could streamline the experience, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is delightfully unhinged — the highest compliment I can give the biggest entertainment corporation in the galaxy.

Disney must be making huge margins on the galactic cruiser. 2 days in windowless ferry for 6000$? People are paying that much to stay in a star-wars themed mall?

From the picture It looks like a ... a ferry. It even has that tacky feels from the material used. Food seems okay but gimmicky, nothing seems really that sophisticated. For that price you could go to a super-expensive 5 stars-restaurant like 20 times, or just travel abroad...

Edit: i guess all the roleplay is what people are trully paying for. Sounds like full-scale DnD for uncreative people with money. Gotta pay the wages of the actors.

Doubt that it's enough. Keep in mind that Disney, for all it's monstrous size, is billions of dollars in debt and the Star Wars IP in particular still hasn't payed for itself.

Are you sure this is true and they are not doctoring the books? Disney, Marvel, Star Wars... Its all there is to see in some theatres those days.

They just dropped a billion dollars on their new Fastpass sytem, they spent ten billion to buy Star Wars, they spent all that money to build Galaxy's Edge right as all of their parks are tanking, they spent seventy-one billion to buy most of Fox, the pandemic hurt their parks division badly and the last few Marvel movies have been widely panned and they aren't releasing the numbers on revenue from people buying the movie through Disney+, which was another big investment to set up. Are they doctoring the books? Of course they are, every publicly traded company worth it's salt does, but they've been buying up lots of IPs and and companies and the last few years have been short on blockbusters, Endgame came out in 2019 so that's basically three years without a blockbuster.

If someone can correct me on this or add to it I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've worked in some places that was considered "luxury" but they really just seemed kind of trashy when you looked closer.
The big takeaway I got was that the truly wealthy own their own places and stay at their friends places when they travel. Fancy-people homes are consistently more impressive.
That said, I did get a guest pass to a high-end gym once and holy moly that place was beautiful. I want to know what else out there is like that.

For the low price of 6 grand you could spend a weekend at an actually nice hotel with a decent escort, but blue shrimp and themed bingo seem too good to pass up for the Star Wars fan.

Speaking of which, how often do you think people are going to end up fucking in those tiny ass rooms?
