Weird anecdote: over one score & five years ago, before I was born, my parents bought their first house---a decrepit, unfinished house in the ghetto of northeast Philly that my dad unsuccessfully tried to fix up. There was a gaping hole in the upstairs roof, but for some reason my father thought it was much more important to stencil this phrase, along with a rooster & a chicken, on a low-hanging beam above the stairs leading to the basement.

Also, hi, I'm back! Three rounds of super-strong antibiotics later, I think this month-long kidney infection is finally on its way out. For some reason my body kept attacking the medicine & not the actual bacteria. So I guess my kidneys kept re-infecting themselves or some bullshit.

Connor, I'm so sorry about your grandmother. She is beginning to have problems, whether "just" from aging or from some other cause, that you are not equipped to take care of, and should not be made to take care of. I hope there is a way you can have a quiet chat with one of your parents about this. She may need more care than they're thinking she does. It's good of you to run errands with her, but your life shouldn't have to be in danger because she's driving and losing cognitive skills.

Connor, it is just a minor setback and you are being a drama queen. Sometimes things don't go exactly to plan. You can try again the next day, and then you'll feel a bit better about yourself because you're sticking to something.


Also, sorry that your family sucks. They tend to do that. My solution to my own family is to just try to ignore their shit, talk to the nice members, and as for the ones who were dicks about everything I said and did, I just stop communicating with them. That last bit probably isn't an ideal solution, but yeah.

It amuses me to no end that you started out trying to talk some sense into Connor on Wrong Planet, & now you're doing it on the Farms, too.
Seriously, though, @Connor , she's right. Sometimes the best thing you can do is put some distance between you & your family, though unfortunately it's kinda hard when you live them. It's also hard to be an adult when your parents won't treat you like one. My solution to both was that I moved out. That's one thing to consider, though I know your immediate response will be "BUT I CAN'T BECAUSE MY FAMILY WHATEVER WHATEVER POWER OF ATTORNEY." I assume the Technical College of the Lolcow Lowcountry doesn't have some sort of living arrangement deal near their campus?

If Connor signed up for financial aid, and got a part time job, he could probably afford to move out while doing work and school. It worked for me.

I don't know... Connor kind of reminds me what I could be like if I wasn't constantly kicking my own butt, telling myself not to be such a pussy, and generally challenging my limitations and questioning thought patterns that are holding me back.
 
I just got to over 10k Words in Camp NaNoWriMo. My carpel tunnel is acting up but fuck it was worth that shit. I should have the full novel done by the end of the month. How is yours coming along?

You're one of many who's said that, myself included. I was a lot like him growing up, & I still would be if life hadn't royally kicked my ass. Honestly, losing fucking everything was, in a weird way, the best thing to happen to me. I learned a lot about myself, & about others. I think if Connor could just get a good hard shove out of his comfort zone, it'd do wonders.
