I would take driving lessons if I could. My parents think I'm not ready, but fuck 'em.
Connor, I hate to have to do this again, but you are an adult. I'm almost out of college and still live with my parents because they're gracious enough to house me, but I choose what and when I drive, what I eat, when I sleep. There's a certain level of respect that a child owes their parents, but the parents also owe respect to an adult to make their own decisions. If you want driving lessons, say something.

Apparently not. Then again, they are too wrapped up in their own worlds to be much of a solid parental unit.
THEN
ASSERT
YOURSELF
&
SAY
SOMETHING

EDIT: you better be talking to your parents right now

Geeze, they're still arguing all the time too. What do they argue about? Most couples argue about money since it's the most common external stress factor.

My mom constantly accuses my father of cheating and screwing around on the job. I have to put up with her shouting at him every night.

You've told us about your terrible family dynamics before, only to admit you lied and exaggerated a lot of your claims. You told us your parents definitely care about you. Maybe you just need to express your own feelings to them?

The thing is, Chip, I'm afraid to out of fear of making my mother upset or getting landed in a psych ward. If I express any negative emotions, she gets on heightened alert.

So by telling your mother that you want to take driving lessons and become more independent, she's going to get you involuntarily committed? What makes you think a psych ward would keep you if you aren't showing symptoms or signs of a breakdown? Have you discussed these concerns with your father?

Saying that you want to drive to take care of your grandmother seems pretty positive to me.

"I'm worried about Grandma" doesn't seem negative to me. What if you told your parents you loved them & wanted to help them? What if you said, "hey, Mom, can we talk about what's going on with Dad?"

Yeah, getting your driver's license should be a much higher priority than anything but school right now. Hell, tell your parents you need to learn how to drive so that your grandmother can stop having to drive places. They'd be insane to not go along with that.

Pretty much. Learning how to drive can be stressful and terrifying at first, especially if you have anxiety or the 'tism, but it's worth it to have that independence. There's also no shame in learning how to drive later than most people. It'll take a while for you to acclimate to it, but it's kind of like learning how to ride a bike: once you learn, you won't forget and it'll come to be second nature for you.

A+ would recommend.

I'm sorry, I found this and I just had to share it because hello, relevance:

@BOLDYSPICY!, it would be cute if you drew Connor wearing a rooster hat like that one. It's so bizarrely apropos. I feel like a rooster hat would be an appropriate summation of Connor's entire personality.

So in what way is your Uncle antisocial? Sometimes your particular definition of antisocial is a little skewed.
