On the one hand, I don't feel like a fascination with bizarre people is anything that any of us can judge someone for. After all, isn't that why we're all here in the first place? Connor is really just expressing the same feelings most of us have, if slightly more plainly than we might care for it to be.

Goddamn I fucking hate TCL's website. It's so clunky & weird to navigate & it keeps crashing on me. Anyway, since he may not have taken MAT 012, the classes we can assume Connor has taken are:

• COL 103 (College Skills)
• MAT 032 (Developmental Mathematics)
• that one history class where it took him ten weeks to write an essay for All Quiet on the Western Front, &
• MAT 101 (Beginning Algebra), which he dropped (presumably withdrew failing).

Now, assuming MAT 101 was the last thing he took,

He probably had, at most, ten people in his class.

Earlier in the thread I looked up the school's tutoring center and if I recall correctly it was just like my college's drop-in tutoring. He could just show up when there was a tutor around and he could get help, for free even. My school does 1 on 1 sessions for DSPS students too, who can also request notetakers, and also get to take their tests outside of class so they have more time. There is so much he could be taking advantage of, he could totally be doing a level math class along with something he'd like more such as English, and maybe something fun like anthropolgy. My college has a library studies course where you can learn how to work in a library, that would be an excellent choice for an aspiring writer to get involved in a job where you are surrounded by books!

There's so many opportunities, but then I remember who this thread is about. Oh well.

When a student shows me that they care, it makes my day. It lets me know I'm doing my job, and it lets me know that they're trying their best. It might not get them an A, but trying their best and putting in the maximum amount of effort they can is almost always going to get them somewhere other than failure.

I'm glad Connor isn't one of my students, is what I'm saying.

Just this past semester I had a class with only four other students, and a couple semesters before that a class of about 10 (I go to a small college). I absolutely loved both classes because I got to know the teachers and the other students pretty well and we had a lot of great discussions (granted, these weren't math classes, but still). On the whole, I've always enjoyed smaller classes more than larger classes. I'm always really happy to see low attendance, haha.

If you have a small class, make the most of it. They're not easy to come by.

I had to take a similar class, I don't know how standard they are across the nation, but everyone had to take this class at one point. If it's anything like the one Connor likely took, they play videos aimed at middle schoolers (or younger) about taking notes, good studying skills, and using school-supplied planners. And then you turn in your notes (about taking notes) and show how you're using your planner every day. For most students it's pretty degrading shit, but Connor is one of the few who would actually benefit from a class like this. Except similar things were likely frequently taught in his special ed class and we can see how well that worked out for him.
