It was fun! I loved working for DC Comics, especially when my ideas were used and I was picked for the best projects. Working with Geoff was a great experience. It got kind of oppressive at the end though. Having no input into the stories and grinding out issues that took place in the middle of stories of which other artists had drawn the first two chapters became kind of dispiriting, and then eventually, when ComicsGate began to happen, I really needed to go just to be able to protect myself.

Since you worked at DC, do you have any juicy stories about Mark Waid, especially those where he behaves like the giant sperglord baby he is?

I don't read current DC Comics because it's not part of my work. When I read comics, they're older books, or the works that fellow indies are producing. So I have no opinion about the newest line of stories.
You were a c-lister too not to add you are no Jim Lee, Tony Daniel, or Greg Capullio.

@FROG I can't shake the feeling that you're not Ethan but I've also been known to be terribly wrong before.

If this is Ethan, I'd just want to ask when the first ever produced Cecil x Ethan duet will come around? Also, what happened to the 20k Vampy stream? I was going to watch it at work but it was taken down.

emspex confirmed it. So unless she got tricked, he's the real deal. And he probably took down the stream because youtube hates long streams and stunts their growth

Now, you won't catch me saying Em could be tricked.... but maybe. It's not a strong feeling but it's there.

As for the streams, he still usually keeps them up, he's kept up most of his streams including the day one launch stream. I think it might be Youtube glitching, it was acting weird during another livestream I caught, but I also thought maybe Ethan had a reason.

Youtube's been fucked with today according to google so weird shit is happening and their slave pajeets are shit at fixing the code.

Do bookstores in the US have a large comic section?
Our comic culture isn't that great, we don't really have many comic book stores in Germany.
Most people here get their comics/mangas from normal bookstores.
Comics got so unpopular here that mangas take at least more than two times the space in bookstores.

I took this photo in a Thalia bookstore in Berlin:

What is your take on mangas?
I don't read them, but I think it's pretty clear that the next generation of comics readers do. That's mostly what they read. As far as American bookstores go, the ones near me stock mainstream superhero graphic novels about as much as yours does, but they're impossible to navigate. Just random stories, no order to follow like manga. And yes, I think the way they stock manga is similar to yours.

I think I've told most of my Mark Waid stories in livestreams. I didn't interact with him much beyond that...was always friendly, but sensed political friction under the surface. A lot of dealing with SJWs comic pros is like that. You're saying hello and talking about the weather and they're seething that you voted for Mitt Romney or Bush, and occasionally it would come out, like Tourettes. "Hey EVS whasssHOW COULD YOU VOTE FOR THAT MAN?"

I'm a multi-award winning artist, Eisner nominated as best penciller/inker (for a single issue of a superhero comic) and was often Wizard Magazine's #1 "Hot Artist" on their monthly Top Ten. My books stay in print and sell very well, and when DC Comics lists their top 20 Must Read graphic novels, I have more books on that list than ANY other artist, including the three you listed.

If there's such a thing as an A-Lister, you're looking at him.

I took it down. Personal reasons. Sorry.

Cecil is going to co-write REIGNBOW BRUTE, does that help?

Gotcha, was just curious if it was Youtube messing up or that exact reason.

and E, you know I mean you on piano and Cecil in a cocktail dress belting out his dulcet tones! I'm looking forward to Reignbow though.

Thats mostly because jean giraud only stayed in the us for a short time...

your art just feels cold and sterile from time to time and not in a artistic way.

No a friend of mine told me for years at D.C. that you were just a fill in artist looks like you're reliving your glory days you has been con man used car sales man.

The current means of distribution is dying, which will wipe out a huge percentage of comics publishers, retailers and creators. I don't think there's any way around that...people want convenience when they buy things and hopping into your car for a trip to the comic book shop, hoping they'll have what you want, just isn't sustainable vs. the internet.

Comics will survive. I hope people love them enough to keep fighting the culture war to preserve them as an entertaining hobby, and not a means of propagandizing a dwindling audience. That's why I am a part of ComicsGate.
If the physical market does collapse, how well do you think DC and Marvel Comics will weather the storm?

Really? I have DC's essential GNs 2017 and 2019 editions and only thing with your name there is DC Universe Rebirth where Gary Frank and Ivan Reis got higher billing. Am I missing something? I don't really remember any of your work being that well regarded asides of Green Lantern run with Johns. Flash Rebirth got lot of hype, but it fizzled out (not your fault) and I think nobody really remember it any longer.

And I actually like your work, but such claims are rather weird.

Article from 1996 regarding Marvel's business plan for getting out of bankruptcy.

Marvel and DC won't go broke. They have enough assets and foreign investors to bail out any mistake they make.
As they continue going down the road of GWGB parts of the business will fail and be licensed or sold to China. Most of Valiant comics is owned by China, a well known circle jerk farm team for the big 2.

What happened to "Toy Biz" after Marvel purchased the company?
Toy Biz went defunct in 2007 but here is the info on the company any the plan for a "profitable" future.

The studios deal? That's how they saved the company. This toy biz shit was a huge womp womp.

There was speculation earlier about them wanting it to collapse, if it happens they could cut Diamond and stores out of the money pie and take a bigger slice...

@FROG Have you checked other parts of the site? You'd probably enjoy: the TDS thread or showing Mike the silicone ball injector cult. @GeneralFriendliness has been dropping hot goss about the new SW parks in the SW thread and wants it to be spread around (from around page 500 on-wards although there is also info about garbage food items earlier).

I think the removal of the stream had more to do with some sped or possibly an individual with malicious intent, super-chatting their musings about how much they'd like to see a mass shooter go to town at the big two. Given how sensitive Youtube is about mass shootings, I wouldn't leave that video up either. I thought Ethan handled it deftly and without fuss and just refused to read that portion of the superchat or give any attention or oxygen to such retardation.

That makes a lot of sense, I didn't even get to watch any part of the stream. I woke up to a notification and it was gone. The mystery has been solved.
