How well do cringecore comics like this sell?

I can't imagine what anyone picking up a superhero comic and expecting some epic adventure will think when getting some autistic author's assblasted temper tantrum that some neckbeard NEET said "I don't think this video game is very good."

Why does this sound so familiar? Like I've seen a story similar to it not that long ago. I just can't put my finger on it.

:story: guess which series is currently airing their (3rd?) newest season right now?

And if they have real time bad word detection, why not just bleep them or replace them with innocuous terms for comedy, instead of permabanning people?
That's a really retarded idea, you ween, but I guess you can milk it for all it's worth.

I was thinking there was some recently popular weeb show that also took place inside a game… I guess that's the one. There's also .hack, or Ready Player One… "story that takes place inside a video game" is becoming a rather tired genre recently.

Lauren the Cosplay Hag is still butthurt about her info having been found, due to her stupid ass posting it everywhere herself.

TUG is exaggerating a little about it (are we sure she isn't a troon?) coming after Kiwi, but boy is she trying hard to stay relevant.

SAO is the most popular Isekai (different world) genre in recent years. The problem i generally have with the genre is that they are often lazy and don't think about world building or characterisation (e.g. SAO), so i can see bad western writers wanting to expand into the genre. However most of the audience for the Isekai genre are males and they like it because a lot of the genre can be boiled down to; blank overpowered Gary Stu gains a harem (i.e. standard power fantasy/save the princess waifus). I can already see most of the western stories being written as; Mary sue don't need no man, which doesn't play as well to the main audience. OT Star wars and Disney Star wars as an example of similar trope changes leading to audience dissatisfaction.

I haven't read RPO, but from everything I've seen and heard it's a poorly written YA relying on nostalgia as a massive crutch. So may as well give that dude a cape comic book.

It's a premise with a lot of potential, but so far only The Matrix did it right. Most of the ones we're seeing now are little more than Star Trek holodeck episodes, but with the writer thinking they're creative genius's because they have some kind of reference to a game cliche.

Yes, it pretty much is. They had to tone down the main character so much because he's an asshat and the book is in the first person.

Here's a collection of quotes from RPO to read through. After a glance, you might think they were all made up to make the book look bad. You would be wrong.

Being human totally sucks most of the time. Videogames are the only thing that make life bearable.

:offtopic: It took me a while to finish that book last year because every so often I ran into one of those lines and needed to compose myself again. The only good thing that came of it was that Mike Nelson created a bookclub podcast to roast it and other terrible books.

This guy is getting $5780/month to write a LitRPG web serial called The Wandering Inn, also posted here. He then turns around and sells ebooks of it on Amazon. Nice work/double dip if you can get it. It is closing in on or maybe passed one million words by this point. I read the first two chapters to see what all the fuss was about. Still haven't figured it out.

I think both the people who shit on RPO and those who love it are kind of missing the point. It was a silly work of genre fiction; no more no less. If you like that sort of thing, chances are you'll at least like RPO, if not, then not.

The Matrix was more a simulated universe theme but I suppose it’s pretty similar if the technology is advanced enough (Like the Red Dwarf Better Than Life episode/book and similar ideas like that one episode in Rick and Morty where the user forgets they’re playing a video game).

I got a present from someone in my email this morning & wanted to share it with all of you. (This is so goddamned terrible.)

Wait. All Kwanzer does is the plot? He doesn't even write the script of his own comic book? That's Zoe Quinn tier laziness, isn't it?

Edit: I ... have no idea what is going on here.:\

Agreed, I don't want to shit on people that would enjoy RPO (and a lot of people did), it just doesn't seem for me. I enjoyed the isekai 'overlord' light novels, but i won't pretend they are some great literature or that everyone must love it. I find it to be some fun, pulpy, light, trashy entertainment and it's great because of that.

I think a fair amount of properties have done the scenario fairly well, especially if they really think about world building. But to bring this back around to CG, i would like your thoughts on this, as it seemed to rile some people up and you seem to be the best person to ask. https://twitter.com/stillgray/status/1065860043772284929 https://archive.is/iwuwB

Luckily this is IDW's line, so this is basically fan-fiction and has no relation or effect on the regular 2000AD line that does the real Judge Dredd comic. They're basically like the tie-in comics cartoons occasionally get: even if they say they're technically canon, they'll never be acknowledged or treated as such in the regular series. Hopefully it stays that way.

And just for the sake of comparison, here's a parody 2000AD did of Trump back in 2012:

And here's IDW's version in CURRENT YEAR:
