Luckily this is IDW's line, so this is basically fan-fiction and has no relation or effect on the regular 2000AD line that does the real Judge Dredd comic. They're basically like the tie-in comics cartoons occasionally get: even if they say they're technically canon, they'll never be acknowledged or treated as such in the regular series. Hopefully it stays that way.

I think both the people who shit on RPO and those who love it are kind of missing the point. It was a silly work of genre fiction; no more no less. If you like that sort of thing, chances are you'll at least like RPO, if not, then not.

You downplay it, but do you understand what tops the sales charts these days in SF? 350 pages of geekfap bullshit overflowing with nerd culture references. The success of RPO has directly led to the entire genre turning into literature's version of Ow, My Balls.

Not saying you're wrong, but I've seen no evidence of this. Is there a list somewhere that spikes out the bestselling science fiction? I'd say the bestseller charts on Amazon kind of rebut your point, but they're an absolute train wreck generally, and Science Fiction is one of the worst, with all sorts of other genres slopping into it.

It's not like they have those sales figures to point to, so crowing about how they defeated Emmanuel Goldstein for good this time (until the next time) is really all they have. I'm not sure how they'll blame Nazis next year when the end of year numbers are the same or even worse, since after all they "defeated" CG.

I'm still not sure what "defeating" CG entails. Apparently it doesn't entail actually producing comics people will buy that don't end up in landfills.
