Im surprised no one has mentioned CCCats here yet. A DA species that was very popular a couple years back with CCCat adopts (with only one piece of art) ranging into around 700s. Though, recently checking, it seems they caved in on themselves and are starting to only go for a few hundred. Still a lot, but interesting. What kinda sucks when it comes to grabbing their individual prices is that the adopts posted typically have the amount removed once purchased. Occasionally you can find a mention of a $500 buyout or see some unhidden bids, or they'll forget to wipe the amount (most recent went for $350). These things used to only go for $50-80 as an FYI.

$400
1591296312772.png
Both AB'd at $200 ea.
1591296530012.png
$500.
1591296632845.png
all for around $250 ea.

$250 ea.
Maybe its just me but I don't think you could find many artists to draw these designs 100% perfectly.

Edit: I forgot that most of these fucking things cant be resold! Meaning you HAVE to trade the fuckers for others and will likely never get your money back! :)

what a shame, i think the base design for these ones is genuinely cool. but they're another one caught up in the closed species bullshit (and becoming over-designed messes with eye-burning color palettes).

I own a few myself when I was caught up in the closed species hype and even now I can't find artists who can draw them properly or do the correct markings. They were a cool concept until the adopts got into the hundreds and they all started to blend together in terms of design and colors :/

yeah, that's an issue for a lot of the pricier adopts. in an effort to make everyone feel like the adopt they bought is unique (or just because the artist isn't great at design), they end up over-complicated, cluttered, and/or over-designed. that can be fine for your own character but if it's an adopt that a person intends to commission art of it becomes a problem.

this design and these two designs are relatively simple and appealing, but the rest of the ones posted above make my hand cramp just thinking about coloring them. i might still accept money to draw them depending on price but i'd definitely be annoyed while drawing it.

Oh yeah definitely. I'd be lying to say I wouldnt buy that bearded vulture based one. But definitely wouldnt want to draw most these overly complicated spots and stripes cccats. Another group that's decently bad with designs is the Grem2s and Griffians (Griffia? Bagbeans..)

i've seen some genuinely good grem designs from artists i like/follow but that's another species that gets over-designed to hell and back.

i don't follow most closed species but after a peek at dA... i found out someone paid $160 for this overdesigned, awkwardly proportioned, Donut Steel of an adopt concept.

the thing is like 70% tail mass. i don't understand the appeal.

It took me a minute to figure out what the fuck I was looking at here. It looks like a gaint flashy blob

Good lord the pose they used for the fox itself is so stiff and lifeless. If I was paying over 100 bucks for one of these autistic things I'd at least expect them to put in the effort to give it some personality and a sense of movement.

So, there's a fairly known original species called orcadragons; basically just a hybrid of a dragon and a orca. The creator has a DeviantArt account along with a DeviantArt group as well. While just using a hybrid as a closed species, which some furfags also agree who autistc it is; the artist that own/draw them do have some artist talent to some degree.

i took a peek and...

$50 each. both were sold. so much for the notion you're buying an adopt artist's creative originality to warrant the price tags of some of these design vomits and Donut Steels for sale.

So many artists are notorious for literally just skinning an already existing character and slapping the design onto a different species. Either that, or take a monstrous/feral creature and then turn it into a generic cutesy anthro to appeal to other audiences but never actually modify the design. It's common with pokemon folk especially. There's this inkbunny person who does adopt batches which are literally just anthro pokemon.

That signature looks like a reversed tramp-stamp.

How many times are artists going to poach well-known mythological creatures like Kitsunes to make a quick buck? At least find something that's a bit less known, goddamn.

Has anyone posted dessertbuns here yet? I cannot tell what their deal is, I can't even find their species sheet or anything, but the owner seems to be able to make whatever she feels like and say it's a dessertbun...

The average Dessertbun looks like a generic, cluttered pastel furry:

and then there's definitely original designs like these:

And the "overcooked subspecies":

But the biggest issue imo lies with the species owner, Stickerpen, who frequently tries to exchange her OCs and designs for expensive real-life items - most recently, a pool.

explain to me how retarded do you have to be in order to literally buy what is essentially some unoriginal sketches for even a cent

I could see why someone would pay for a character design in the same vein I can see why someone would pay a graphic design person to make a logo. But that's for an original design, a product of the artist's creativity and skill. Not... this. Not this nonfunctional clutter and/or unoriginal garbage.

I think some furfags have a fetish for pastel colors for some reason.
