So Touch-Tone would be an illegal name, yes?

The exact rule from the DAD website:

furry autism lmao said:
The only names that are not acceptable are ones similar to "Telephone" and "Radio", who belong to the species' creator, Ino, and her husband, Cerros. (i.e. Names like Headphones, Wi-Fi, Microwave, Television, Microchip, Camera, etc. are not permitted)

So yeah, probably. Bonus because it is a direct reference to a telephone, too.

There's a guy out there who made Satellite, the DAD designed to break every single rule. I respect that kind of commitment to trolling.

Got bored. Have an incredibly rough sketch of the concept.

It sucks but I almost like it.

Better than having art block I guess.

i would love to see a ref sheet of this majestic autism creature
Fine, fine. The guy is 'wolf_on_the_hill' on FA, and here you go. I see in looking at his page he got a new refsheet some months ago.

As you can see there is a muzzle ring and a technology name. But there's more. Pastel colors, multicolored. He's explicitly an adult (DADs used to be said to be at least mentally about six years old), has a defined gender. Eats meat, sometimes. These are or were all counter to the rules. There are pictures showing him with trans and other pride flags but I think that was mostly because they were also not allowed to have a gender or sexual identity of any sort. I think even the eyes are in some manner transgressive but I forget what rule that is.

you bring up an interesting point, what if it's a different kind of communication device that isn't electronic in nature
will the name two-cans-on-a-string fly? what about an old wind up pocket watch? stone oven? gas powered lightbulbs? hell, the word 'microwave' does not necessarily refer to a microwave oven, what if i just wanna name my guy based on the wavelength?
realistically all of these are probably juuuust borderline enough to tick off the creators while being technically permissible, yet nobody will do it just to steer clear of any potential for a conflict

wait
are we super autistic for even delving into this and debating it to such an in depth degree?

I don't think any of the people paying for these things or adopts actually give a shit about the designs, especially with how little use they usually get. It's just the feeling like they've interacted with and/or networked with the artist that they're actually looking for, as well as "This design/baseball card was made by some artist everyone likes!"
The furry community is BIG about buying on and selling stuff, as well as brands and identities, which is why artists with big numbers on Twitter are able to sell rabbits with an extra ear or something and maintain the illusion that they can actually do anything about it if you draw them anyway.

It's the funniest thing when the radical furries brand themselves communist too. Consooooomualism.

Hey sorry for the necroposting, but I find this thread a while ago and I felt somewhat nostalgic (Plus I'm finding out a lot of dramas of which I was not aware thanks to my little knowledge in english lol) so I thought I might as well add my two cents on this thread and mention some Closed Species and dramas that I haven't seen mentioned

Grabbygons are basically wingless dragongs with hands on their ears, ngl for me they were pretty original in that time

Also when I re-visit the species group I found out they are now an Open Species

I personally did not hear of any drama surrounding this species, maybe bc they weren't that popular (They were popular but not Chimereon levels of popular for example)

Also has a funfact, the creator of this species also make another called Inkfoxes, they were just foxes with ink instead of blood, and yes they were a CLOSED Species. Fortunately I think the creator realized how ridiculous it was because I couldn't find a single trace of said species on her DeviantArt or her ToyHouse.

Fluffyshrimp are, well, shrimps with fur, I'm suprised nobody mentioned them since they are pretty popular among furries

The only way to get one Is buying and adopt from the creador herself (Mochiri) and the price goes arround $100-$400

I'm not sure were she post her adopts now, since the last batch of adopts she posted on Furaffinity was a year ago, but judging by what this post on Twitter, it seems that she only sells adoptables on Discord now.

Ghosties are just kemonomimis with a ghost tail

1757794436233.webp
1757794642985.webp

I remember watching a video about a drama involving these little fuckers, I can't find the video (Maybe they deleted it because the situation was resolved) but from what I can remember the drama goes like this:

>Vtuber makes a character with a ghost tail
>Ghosties creator jumps at her demanding the tail to be removed bc "is a key feature of their species"
>Vtuber refuses
>Ghosties creator then offerts Vtuber a MYO slot so their character can be an official Ghostie
>Vtuber refuses again

Take all this with a grain of salt, has a said I can't find the video and the problem has already been resolved, but I think it's a good example of the inflated ego that some closed species creators have

I don't think it's necessary to explain what Chimereon are since they've already been mentioned in the thread, but in case that you didn't know who SrFluff Is, he's a very popular animation memer and artist, he was very active in the Chimereon community but leaved in 2022

lmao at the absolute retardation of an "illegal" protogen design. oh noes the hurt feelings department is at my front door for drawing someone's donut steel magical robot dog thing the WRONG WAY!!!
Wait til you find out it's possible to patent using the genes of an organism, making it actually illegal if you take a gene from one organism and insert it into another one the wrong way. Welcome to the world of GMO patents.
